Camp Strong Wood

Our stay was pretty much what we were looking for - secluded, quiet, and comfortable. The best part was the staff. They were beyond just friendly and professional, but were also very accommodating. They gave us a side-by-side tour of the property, let us borrow a phone charger, and even offered us fishing poles and bait to use in the two beautiful ponds. If you are looking for something secluded and quiet where you can just relax and enjoy nature, we strongly recommend.

Amazing experience from the start to the finish. The host were very quick to answer any questions before we even arrived. We had a group of 10, and the cabins slept all of us comfortably and the A/C worked amazing. Any help/questions we needed, were swiftly handled/answered by the host couple. They were amazing. Having close access to the kitchen was definitely a plus, since our group had so much food. Firewood was readily available. Our group’s favorite party was the lake. You can tell the owners of this camp have really put time into making this a fun and comfortable place to relax. We will definitely be back, and there is talk with our friend group to make this an annual trip. Also enjoyed how dog friendly everything was. Highly recommended!

Chris was terrific from the moment we arrived. The cabin was adequate for our needs and the outdoor kitchen on the porch was perfect. The land and the lake are beautiful. Fresh from the lake fish fried for dinner! A great getaway and we will be back.

Curiosity Lead Me to this Paradise

I feel my words will prove inadequate to capture the essence of what Camp Strong Wood has to offer anyone who is fortunate enough to follow their sense of wonder into this beautiful land. If you are trying to have a human experience by going back to basics, without sacrificing civility and genuine hospitality - this is the place that needs to top your list. The staff (Chris and Zoey) are wonderful and caring people who made us Floridians feel welcome from the moment we arrived late at night when they came out to greet us with a smile! The atmosphere of community, communication with the land and its creatures and features, and tangible love of what the do was so refreshing - people who are so grateful and blessed to call their stewardship of this acreage their livelihood. Everything is sanitary and well-constructed with care. I loved my stay and will be back in the near future. This place is well worth your time and money, highly recommend.

Great place to camp and relax

What a great place to spend some time and get back to nature. The land was beautiful and well maintained. The Lake side camping spot we stayed at was just awesome, great view and no artificial lighting at all. The sites caretaker had the area ready for us with firewood we ordered delivered and stacked by the fire ring. We enjoyed the hiking trail and fishing.

While maps may not take you exactly there it gets you close enough and the red gate is clearly marked. Plenty of room to roam nice and peaceful place to kick back and relax.

Camp Strongwood was a great group site getaway. There are a lot of lodging options. It’s surprisingly private with the wooded areas while simultaneously feeling open and accessible to get to the lake or common area for meals. It’s beautiful and peaceful! Campground groundskeeper, Chris, is incredibly thoughtful and goes above and beyond as a generous host. He is the cherry on top of the sundae! I look Forward to my next trip to Strongwood.

Weekend Getaway

On January 29th, 2023 we had the opportunity to stay at John’s camp in Wesson, MS. We had a great time there. It was a very relaxing and quiet weekend secluded in the middle of nowhere which was very nice and calm. At the camp there are 1-2 cabin/tiny houses to stay in. Currently as of the date of this review Chris (The caretaker) is in the process of building 2 more cabins to stay in that are fairly close to being finished. Chris was a very pleasant and hospitable host. He attended to our needs and showed us around the land and the lake which was very nice and beautiful. Chris lives there on the camp, but always respected our privacy. We also had a very pleasant time talking with Chris. This camp not only offers some cabins to stay in, but for those interested you can also pitch a tent and “rough it” outside. They also had a grill, microwave, and an oven (I assumed it was functional) to cook with while you are there. We did not utilize this though. Wesson,brookhaven, and hazlehurst are only about a 20-30 minute drive if you’d like to go eat in one of those towns. We also asked for some firewood when we booked the camp. Not only did Chris provide the firewood, but he also went ahead and prepared the whole campfire for us to use when ever we felt like sitting out under the stars around the campfire. All in all, we had a great time staying at this camp and we will definitely be returning to stay here once again. I would highly recommend this camp!! Thanks John and Chris!

So peaceful out in the cabins! Even though we went during hunting season so we couldn’t explore much he made sure we had a wonderful experience. The campfire set up is absolutely beautiful. The cabin is so homey with a stunning shower. Can’t wait to come back.

I had a good time for my first tent camping experience at camp strongwood. The property manager, Chris, is awesome. The lake is beautiful, and it’s a good fishing spot. The grounds are nice, but they could use some cleaning up. Overall good experience.

The groundskeeper was lovely. It was quiet. The a/c worked well. The showers and room were clean. Great amenities like wifi, gas stove, fridge, etc and all in good condition. It looks like they’re adding cabins so it was in a bit of a state of disarray but nothing to complain about. I’m happy to see them adding more. On the downside, we were warned that there were gators in the lake (about a .5 walk) so unfortunately we didn’t feel comfortable about kayaking or swimming which we had been looking forward to according to the listing this is a common activity. But yeah, I don’t passed. there were gator traps all around the waters edge (rotting chicken on a stick 😅) Additionally, I was told I could let my dog roam, but after about 3 minutes, an angry neighbor came into the property, chasing both of us on an ATV in an extremely aggressive way and threatening us which made the experience stressful and honestly a bit scary. If you’re looking for a trail or a good hike, I’d go for a state park. There were no marked trails here but it was lovely walking and exploring the property. I asked for a map but didn’t get one.

Stayed again on our way back to TX from FL and it did not disappoint! It’s a great place to play like kids and not care about much other than the weather. Great bonding time and adventures with my dogs, which I’m grateful to Chris for making possible. And the dinners he made—epic. So delicious after swimming and kayaking and wandering in the woods! Easy drive back to DFW, we’re already thinking about returning!

Rustic and ready for anything!

Not sure who had more fun, me or my dogs. Chris prepared a mouthwatering steak dinner for all of us, pups included, which, after a long days’ drive, was nothing short of incredible and will be remembered fondly as a great start to our adventures! The cabin is cozy and efficiently furnished—everything I needed was easily found, clean, and worked, from the hot water to the chilly as you like it AC. The next morning, breakfast was damn near as good as dinner the night before, and we spent the day at the lake—kayaks, canoes, floating dock, the perfect summer day. Already booked a return trip! Thanks John and Chris.

Nice Quiet Retreat

Peaceful, safe, and comfortable. The lake is an easy 10-15 minute or so hike back from the cabin. Groundskeeper was friendly and helpful but also respected privacy. It's a lovely place if you're looking for a quiet retreat for reading, writing, meditating, light hiking. Not a ton to do if you're looking to stay super active/busy, beyond canoing on the lake or walking the trails (maybe there is more in the surrounding area, which I didnt get a chance to explore). The main cabin was comfortable--great mattress, strong water pressure. Lots of spider webs/nests which didn't bother me (and helped catch a few flying critters who snuck in), but might not be great for anyone with a phobia :-) The porch was lovely and well-shaded. Stayed pretty cool even in the afternoons, without many bugs. Great stargazing from the lake, but hard from the cabin as there are lots of lights around the cabin and parking areas that turn on at night. Overall, a lovely trip, with everything as advertised!

Starry Solitude

Chris greeted me and kindly inflated my air mattress. My site was next to the pond. I made good use of the kayak that Chris fixed up for me. Paddling on the water at sunset was so peaceful. I was the only person in site for 2 days. Couple things worth mentioning: the pond has a very slippery bottom and my foot sank 2ft when I stepped in, the frogs will sing you to sleep at night, Chris supplied enough wood to last for days, and the road to the site isn't as bad coming back! I would stay again if I'm out that way.

Camp Strongwood is where it's at. Tons of pine forests to hike and experience wonderful solitude in.... Swimming in the lake during the day and laying out at night on the floating dock looking at the Milky Way and Stars.... Cabins with comfy beds, luxurious showers, and Air conditioning! Chris the Groundskeeper is an beautiful human being. Truly the chocolate frosting on the whole experience. He was right there when we needed him and knew when to give us our space. Please do yourself a favor and pre-book several meals. Amazing. Isolated treasures like this are what make Hipcamp awesome.

Chris is a great guy, super helpful, and it is a cool property. Reminds me of deer camp My Dad stayed in the cabin with AC, bathroom, and hot shower. I stayed in my small travel trailer. Perfect for us guys.

I had a fantastic time during my weekend. Couldn't have asked for better weather. Chris was a great host, and I thoroughly enjoyed his company and cooking. The hiking trails were good fun, as was kayaking on the lake. I'd be happy to get to return for another visit and would recommend any campers to check it out!

We absolutely loved our stay and are already planning our next trip there. It is a beautiful, secluded property with several campsites and cabins to choose from. The camp sites are remote (drivable for some, otherwise they will bring you and your gear in) and no facilities at the camp site. We prefer that, but those that don't, there is a full bathroom and other facilities near the cabins. We spent our time hiking, kayaking, great fishing spot (we caught some!), and relaxing by the fire. Our 7 year old son couldn't get enough of the kayak and our 2 doggos had a field day romping around the lake and trails. My husband caught a large channel catfish as soon as his lure hit the water. Fantastic place for stargazing, dark skies, next time we're bringing the telescope! Lots of wildlife on the property to see, birds, deer, racoon, and fox. We didn't see too many, I'm sure our doggos had something to do with that, but we did see lots of tracks. Both Chris and John were very helpful and were available if we needed anything, (we did, a jump start, thank you Chris!). We had a lovely time visiting with Chris one evening. We discovered he is a chef and they offer meals for an additional fee. We are definitely going to try that next time! We have found our secret get away from it all place. Camp Strongwood is amazing, Chris and John are delightful, and we can't wait to go back!

Beautiful property. Totally private. Restrooms & showers were very far from campsite (must drive) no running water near site to wash pots, pans, dinnerware. Restroom facilities needed cleaning. Night starts were gorgeous. Trails were great and clear. We felt very safe and enjoyed a wonderful time with our family.
