Staying here was such a delight! Everyone was so kind and welcoming, including JuJu the cat :) We had a wonderful time getting to know everyone and exploring the space. We stayed in the TeePee and it was very cozy. The lights were a great added feature! The barn had so much character and it was clear that lots of love was put into this campground as a whole. 100/10

What a great concept! David was very welcoming, and the space is awesome. So lovely to hang out indoors and have a refrigerator. We were there on a cooler weekday night and it was a good vibe, so a busier warm night I’m sure. Would be excellent!

We had a great time camping here! So close to Detroit mountain to ride great MTB trails. There is also a nice archery course next door. Plenty of fun indoor and outdoor games on the property too.
Highly recommend camping here.

Tumbleweed Base Camp
We decided to tent camp here for a short weekend of hiking and relaxing! The hosts David and his son Logan were both very friendly and attentive to any needs you may have! Camping spaces were well kept and you were able to find some privacy despite the open/free camp style spots. Bathrooms were two ports-potties that had lots of ammeneties (Lysol, quality toilet paper, and lights).
Water was from a spicket but tasted just fine. Lots of fun toys such as frisbees, cornhole boards and footballs! We didn’t utilize the barn space but could be really cool for a rainy day!

We booked this spot last minute and we're glad we did! It was so welcoming, clean, and cozy. The hosts were so kind and made sure we had everything we needed. There's a shared fire pit, so it's perfect if you're trying to meet fellow campers. Great spot for troll hunting as well!

David and Logan made me feel like family coming home. I only came to overnight in a tent on my way cross-country and was blown away by the sincere greeting, offer to use the wheel borrow to move stuff to the camp site, and invitation to use the super chill barn space (as shown in photos).

Very lovely, quiet spot. Many other campers nearby if you choose to socialize. Renovated barn had many wonderful amenities that you don't normally find at a 'campground', like couches, books, games, and a fridge. I would definitely stay there again.

Logan and David are great hosts. Friendly and helpful. Nicely manicured property, and though I didn't use it, the barn set up is great. David helped me when time to leave by bringing down trailer to load all my gear and bring it up to my car. A great help!

Tumbleweed Teepee for 2
We felt so welcome, and everything was super cozy and clean. The teepee is on a raised deck with comfortable flooring inside and a wonderful king-sized mattress furnished with sheets, blankets, and pillows. The teepee has electricity run to it as well! For more creature comforts, the barn is only a short walk away.
If you’re bringing a lot of equipment, they will lend you a wheelbarrow to move supplies as it is a short walk over lightly hilly grass to the teepee from the parking area.
Definitely pay attention to the instructions they provide about how to get to the site without taking a super long gravel road as Google Maps may direct you to do!

Wonderful location, perfect hosts.. we were warmly welcomed by Dave and his son Logan. We had really exciting games of Ping pong and extended our trip to an extra day. All in all a lovely place to camp/ visit in Detroit Lakes especially if you are interested in Birding.

Such a great experience at Tumbleweed Basecamp! The land is beautiful and there are a lot of amenities. I rented a mountain bike and rode to the nearby Detroit Mountain Recreation park which was a lot of fun. Would definitely stay here again if I’m in the area!

We enjoyed our overnight stay, plenty of space for tent camping but also for vehicles. Quiet, countryside, hosts are very friendly & social, great with kids. Relaxed visit, they also have a barn that for hanging out with games, kitchenette and plenty of room.
Close to the new Thomas Dambo trolls scavenger hunt.

David and Logan were excellent hosts, start to finish! I’m a solo traveler and felt completely safe. Plus, my two dogs loved our time here as well! Detroit Lakes — only 8 minutes to Main Street — is large as far as lake towns go with all the staples, cute local stores, and plenty of chains, too. I traveled in and out to see family/friends on Pelican Lake, which was only 20-30 minutes. I’m still a newbie dipping my toe into “van life” and my everyday, nothing special, minivan did well with the Memorial Day weekend weather bringing us cool 40s rain and warm upper 60s sunshine. Such a beautiful region of the country this time of year. Hope to get back to the area more and more! Thanks for sharing your corner of the world!

So many deer! I got in late, but David still greeted me and gave me a tour and was incredibly accomodating. Its a beautiful calm spot to spend time when you're alone, but if you go in season, I could see it as a fun bustling spot to make new friends.

We had a fantastic stay with David and Logan. The entire place was well-cared for and full of unexpected small pleasure: heat in our teepee, bumper pool in the barn, super-fast Wi-Fi. We had wonderful conversation around the fire each evening of our stay - thanks David for the book! I’m loving it! And we slept so well and warm in the teepee, despite freezing temperatures each night.
We knew very little about the area and learned during our stay that Detroit Lakes is a really special spot. Located one hour from Fargo and one hour from the Mississippi Headwaters, Tumbleweed Base camp was perfect for our needs.

David and Logan's farm was beautiful. Very clean and well-maintained, set up nicely for families. They had all the amenities we needed - fire ring, wood, picnic table, and potable water. We tent camped at the bottom of a little open meadow. They've also renovated a 100-year old barn into a fun game room/social area that is quite charming. We had the place to ourselves to enjoy the fall weather and leaves, a perfect 'base camp' for our expedition to see the Trolls art installation in Detroit Lakes. David and Logan were accommodating and gracious hosts. We'd recommend and go back.

Tumbleweed was the perfect "base camp" for our weekend getaway. We biked right from our campsite to the fun, flowy and fast MTB trails at Detroit Mountain and had a blast. The trip into town to search for trolls was quick and easy. And the property itself is beautiful and quiet. We savored the starry nights and peaceful feeling. Our only disappointment is that the weather was too nice and we didn't get to experience all the delights the barn has on offer. We'll have to come back for a snowy or rainy weekend so we can play ping pong with David!

David and Logan were fantastic hosts - we are on our way home from west to east and booked last minute. We were welcomed when we arrived, and enjoyed the lovely fire pit that is on property- complete with wood! We shared the fire with a fellow traveler and had a fantastic evening exchanging stories! The only bummer was we didn’t get to spend more time at this location - seems like there is lots to do, and the property is beautifully maintained! Would definitely recommend!
