This old homestead belonged to my belated brother Steve, and after he passed unexpectedly, we decided to create a warm, welcoming atmosphere for those interested in sharing a peaceful and modest property. The old barn is a work in progress to eventually become the base to accommodating more travelers and outdoor enthusiasts as finances permit. My son Logan, after having worked in the service industry bartending for 14 years and hosting 100+ global travelers via CouchSurfing out in San Diego, is well-versed in creating an inviting space, enjoying the merits of hard work through the hospitality industry. We look forward to meeting you and sharing/swapping stories around the campfire! We loved camping at Tumbleweed Camp. The location is away from road sounds, David is such a nice and welcoming host, and there are multiple sites. You can park next to your site, or opt to be away from your vehicle. He has 2 clean port-a-potties and lots of space. There is also the most wonderful BARN with a ton of activities! It's hard to explain but he's got a bid TV, games, sitting areas....it's extraordinary. We were only there for one quick night but this would be a great place for a weekend [or longer] get away.

A Little Piece of Heaven on Earth

I cannot say enough wonderful things about our stay here. ❤️ The barn was beautiful, the land was absolutely mesmerizing, and learning the story behind this place made it even more special. I especially loved seeing the ways David honors his brother, Steven. You can truly feel how much love has been poured into this place. From the moment we arrived, we were treated with nothing but kindness, hospitality, and grace. My mom has terminal cancer, and this weekend was incredibly important to our family. We wanted a chance to simply be together, enjoy the outdoors, laugh, explore, and make memories—and we were able to do exactly that. David was so kind and caring toward my mom and our entire family, and that is something I will never forget. This truly felt like a little piece of heaven on earth, and the memories we made here will stay with me forever. I absolutely recommend staying here, and I can’t wait to come back again! ❤️ While you’re here, make sure to explore the Detroit Lakes trolls, enjoy the beautiful views, walk the boardwalk in Detroit Lakes, and grab some good food and drinks in town. There is so much to experience!

We had a great stay! Very quiet and beautiful. We had a busy weekend so we weren’t able to take advantage of the many perks and amenities available but David thought of so many things to offer campers. We would definitely stay again when in the Lakes area.

What a great find for me! I am traveling across the country by bicycle and I don’t often find places right on my route. Tumbleweed was right where I needed it. As soon as I met David I felt like we weee friends from long ago. We had some great conversations, although not as long as I would have liked. I was able to have a restful night in a very quiet location. I couldn’t have asked for a better place to rest my head for a night. Thank you David!

Dave is an amazing host and is very generous. He offered us to use his barn that has lots of games to keep you entertained. His porta potties were clean and so was the drinking water he lets people use. Highly recommend staying here!

We really enjoyed our stay. David greeted us as soon as we arrived and then gave the tour. It included an old barn that has been remodeled as an indoor recreation area, if the weather is inclement. The campground is well maintained and quiet. The location couldn’t have been better for access to mountain bike trails and visiting trolls. I would definitely stay there again.

Enjoyed a single night stay at Tumbleweed Basecamp. Second time here. David greeted me on my arrival to see if I needed anything. Easy set up with lots of space for privacy but easy to interact with other campers too. Love the barn as a quiet place to read and relax. Overall a nice place to stay!

I loved tent camping here! The directions were clear and the land was beautiful. I also appreciated that they had a separate spot on the property to hang out with games and seating, as well as a fridge/freezer in case we needed to keep anything in there. The firepit was great too and we appreciated that they had firewood on site for access. Very accommodating and very friendly people. Will definitely come back.

David is an extremely welcoming host! The property is very well maintained and clean with lots of extra items (bug spray, fire starting ingredients, camp chairs, balls and other sports items, coffee maker and all of the wonderful stuff in the barn!) We had a wonderful time glamping and chasing trolls and plan to come back again! This is a wonderful base camp location for the troll hunt!

We had a wonderful time! David’s hospitality was unmatched, he was very helpful and friendly. He got us everything we needed and offered to get things we were missing from town. Couldn’t have had a better host. The land was gorgeous, clean, and open. The barn was awesome! Fun place to hang out. Very good experience overall.

Great location overall, feels like you’re far away from everyone, but you are still just a 5-10 min drive from Al Detroit lakes has to offer! David was incredibly kind and great host, said hi to us every morning, and made us feel right at home! Would highly recommend!!

We loved staying at Tumbleweed Base Camp. Dave was friendly and very helpful. The campsites and bathrooms are very clean. I wish we would have had more time to hangout in the barn because there are lots of games and fun activities. We rented the mountain bikes and they worked great. We will definitely be staying here again!

What a sweet and cool campground this is! Dave is a phenomenal host. You'll be greeted and given a quick tour. He'll cover the amazing game barn with bumper pool and ping pong, the little strawberry patch where you can get a sweet treat when you pass, the horse shoe pit, the very clean porta, firewood and starters, running water, a triple 120v outlet for charging or whatever you need. So super accommodating to help you with whatever he can to help you enjoy your stay. No wonder he receives so many awards and accolades for this very sweet, and very hip camp. 5.5 stars outta 5.

We loved our peaceful stay and visiting with Dave! I only wish we could have stayed longer to enjoy the barn activities!! Close to one of the trolls and the golden rabbit also a plus! No showers might be the only downside for some, but access to drinkable water made it fine for us!

We had a nice shady spot to park our van, with a lovely area to enjoy sitting outside. The area is close to mountain biking and hiking to see trolls! We would haves loved to have spent another night to enjoy playing cards in the renovated barn. You couldn’t ask for nicer hosts.

This property is so beautiful with a wonderful barn and beautiful campfire. Like a slice of heaven. This is our second time staying here and it was fantastic! We will come again for many years :)
