How we ended up in Knife Lake Township on 81 acres of forested land. We began looking for land in late fall of 1996. After several months of searching, we happened upon a tiny newspaper ad for 81 acres of land described as "Beautiful, secluded, mature hardwoods, tall pines w/creek & beaver pond, many gd bldg sites & great hunting". We toured the property, covered in almost two feet of snow, on a snowmobile in January 1997 and fell in love with it. We have been stewards of this piece of land for 25 years and are still enamored of its beauty and diversity. We are lulled to sleep by the sounds of owls and bullfrogs and the distant yipping of coyotes. Spring through fall we are often awakened by the rattling, honking of sandhill cranes and a wide variety of bird songs. Besides deer and lots of small critters, we've seen bear, bobcat, rafters of turkeys, quail, grouse, pheasant, owls, hawks and eagles. The sky, on a clear night, is breathtaking. We have always visualized sharing the land with others, so come and immerse yourself in this bountiful space.

Do you remember seeing the night sky full of stars and so close it felt as if you could reach up and touch them? Ever catch a glimpse of an owl silently hunting in the trees or try to identify different bird songs?  In our busy lives, often surrounded by noisy traffic or lights everywhere blocking out the night sky, we often miss that sense of being part of nature that is all around us. Being here, immersed in nature, you'll likely feel your body slough off the tension that all the hustle and bustle have built up in you and re-connect yourself with the natural world and you will come alive again and be refreshed in ways you might never have imagined.  Our yurt, surrounded by evergreens,  is a 3 to 5 minute walk from the main house.  The camping area consists of a private Yurt furnished with a double memory foam mattress on a futon frame, and a seating area for two.  If you have a larger group and want to put up a tent in addition to renting the Yurt, please contact us. This private space is a  great place for a family camping event. (eg. Mom and Dad and little ones stay in the Yurt, the older kids pitch their own tent a few yards away) A fire ring, picnic table. and a screened patio tent are included.  A cookstove, and a solar shower bag, for quick cleanup, may be available to rent. Bring your own pillows and linens or sleeping bags.  While you are here, check out our orchard and vegetable gardens and take a stroll along our 20 acres of paths.

We provide a 4" thick,  double sized  memory foam mattress and a seating area.  If you have a larger group and want to put up a tent in addition to renting the tipi, please contact us. This private space is a  great place for a family camping event. (eg. Had the most special time. First time staying ina yurt and it was everything I could have hoped for. Comfortable, secluded and all we needed and could have wanted. Such a kind couple and special place. Would love to come back with family and friends to share it with

A Lovely Getaway Under the Stars

Would recommend staying at Bob and Roxanne’s! A beautiful area for camping. We had a perfect night under the stars and full moon enjoying a bonfire and sounds of nature around us (sandhill cranes, loons, owls, redstarts, and even some wolves howling during the night). The site was private and quite spacious. The flies and mosquitos were out in force during the day but they provided a mesh shelter that was nice to hang out in. The outhouse (very nice and clean) is a bit of a walk at night, but they provided potable water at our site so we were able to brush our teeth without walking to the outhouse. The yurt was sturdy and spacious and cooled down well for sleep. The town of Mora was only 12-15 mins from the property making it easy to access restaurants or grocery stores. Bob and Rox are very friendly and were very responsive to questions I had prior to arrival. We would definitely recommend this spot!

The lush beauty and elegance of their property was very understated in the description! We loved our visit to the tipi, and would recommend the experience to other Hipcampers visiting the area. I wish we could have stayed another night or two!

Peaceful, quiet, great stargazing

Peaceful, quiet, and the stars were great. Make sure to bring sheets, blankets, and pillows, and camping chairs to sit by the fire. Great stay for the price and would definitely stay again!

We loved everything about this mini get away. The owners were super friendly and nice and kept everything clean. If you are looking for a Yurt adventure and relaxing; this is your place. The Yurt was kept up and in good shape; and the site was perfectly big for hanging out and extra space and there was groomed paths to walk on as well. It was very secluded and private. It was a great weekend to disconnect from technology and reconnect with my partner. Very Relaxing. Def bring your citronella candles and bug spray. There was some bugs but it was not to bad. We are looking to stay in the TP next time we come up here. This place we would highly recommend.

We went in the fall it was so peaceful and calm. The fire ring was awesome with the lid. The Tipi was awesome and really well built it had gotten really windy but it didn't even flutter we didn't even have a draft. I brought a Mr heater along and it stayed nice and cozy.

We had a great weekend at Bob and Rox's off the grid property. Everything was exactly what we were hoping for and a little bit more. Choose this destination and you won't be disappointed!

The yurt and outhouse were both well maintained. Don’t forget your bug spray!! The privacy and quietness was welcomed. Not a lot of airflow or breeze to the camp area so bring a battery operated fan or two. Hosts were kind and welcoming. Thank you for a unique experience!

What a fun adventure I had at the yurt! The hosts are awesome and the site is very private and secluded. The yurt is big and so much easier than my little 2 person tent :-). The screen tent made the difference as the mosquitos are thick and that, along with the campfire and yurt, made my camping experience much better than usual. Thanks Bob & Roxanne!

Our experience on Jane the bus.
Jane - Our Tiny home
We really enjoyed our stay in Jane-the bus. One of the first things we noticed was the privacy that we had in our own space with a beautiful screened in dining area and our own fire pit with all the local wood and kindling we wanted to use. We very much enjoyed the layout of the inside of the bus. The bed was more than big enough and was the most comfortable camping experience we have had. The inside of the bus was extremely well designed with everything you will need as well as endless space for storage. There was a bathroom on the bus but one of the highlights was Bob and Roxanne’s immaculate outhouse design. By far the cleanest and most equipped outhouse we have used with fresh flowers, a working hand washing station, and vent to keep the outhouse having no foul odors. The paths that have been marked by animal figures and the illustrated key provided by the hosts made for a gorgeous morning stroll through the property. The gracious hosts Bob and Roxanne provided us with plenty of privacy and were prompt with answering any of our questions as well as offering to let us use any supplies we may have forgotten to pack. Overall a great place to have a get away and a unique and comfortable way to spend some quality time camping.

Wonderful experience!

My boyfriend and I had an absolutely wonderful experience staying at Bob and Roxanne’s in their teepee. They have a beautiful, spacious property with walking trails, luscious gardens, and thoughtful details like wooden animal cutout trail markings. If you’re looking for a place to unplug and reconnect with nature, this is a great place to feel “off the grid” without having to travel very far from the cities. Bob and Roxanne themselves were a lovely part of our experience, as well. They are extremely kind and welcoming, and they were happy to show us around and share about their sustainable lifestyle when we expressed interested.

What an amazing weekend. Our family has a great time in the yurt and around the fire amoungst the pines. We enjoyed watching the birds, stars, and other wild life. Bob and Rox were wonderful hosts and kind/generous people. We look forward to visiting again. The yurt and dining tent held up great through the bits of rain and we all completely enjoyed this peaceful get away.

Bob and Roxane were amazing hosts! They showed us around the whole property, brought us some extra cots, since we forgot to bring some, and made us all feel very welcome. It was the first time any of us had stayed in a yurt. We loved it!

A little piece of paradise

Bob and Roxanne were terrific hosts; so friendly, helpful, and thoughtful. The yurt is private and surrounded by beautiful pines as expected. This site has everything you’ll need for a basic getaway: yurt with minimal bed and furniture, water, screened in table, fire pit and trails. The outhouse is very clean. It’s like camping without the effort of putting up a tent!

We had a great time at the yurt and definitely recommend it to anyone considering staying here! Bob and Roxanne are very friendly and provided everything you could need including plenty of firewood. We even brought our dog who didn’t want to leave at the end of our stay. We will definitely be staying here again in the future if we’re in the area!

This was the best camping experience I have had so far in Minnesota. Bob and Roxanne are amazing people to say the least and these wonderful hosts had everything set up for us upon arrival. Even occasionally checked in to see if there was anything we needed Their property is gorgeous and the outhouse they have set up has a sink, tp, and two windows with flowers. The yurt site was secluded enough that we had complete privacy and while we could have gone into town more than we did we really didn’t want to leave the site. You can hear owls in the early morning and we could hear the coyotes howling at night for a bit and the stars were breathtaking. My dog loved it. My 9 year old daughter didn’t want to leave. I will be back for sure, hopefully before winter if I can get in.😃❤️🌸

Lovely and friendly owners. They gave me a tour of their nice garden and offered my veggies from it. The tipi was so cool! Heard about them my whole life, but have never seen one in person. Very clean. Everything I needed was there. Nice trail. First outhouse I've ever experience with a working sink lol. My only complaint were the bugs, but 'tis the season in July. Thanks so much Bob and Roxanne!

Best Hipcamp experience so far

Yurt in the Pines is totally worth it. The hosts were amazing and the amenities exceeded expectations. The toilet was well maintained, the yurt has awesome string lights in it that totally added to the night time atmosphere and card games, and the land it’s all situated on was very pristine. Weekend Glampers be AWARE; bring high concentrated deet style bug spray for the mosquitoes. They were tenacious and numerous. You will also not have access to internet/LTE/wifi while you stay here. Also- make sure you bring extra sweaters/thermals/socks. None of this was an issue for us, but just thought I would add that. I’m 100% coming back here to explore the surrounding area.

My husband and I stayed in the yurt on the property. The inside was nice and spacious. It was perfect. The land the Yurt is on is private and had nice trails and tons of wildlife. Bob and Roxanne gave us a tour of the area and they have really made the place an enjoyable place to stay. There's gardens everywhere and different plants and wildflowers. Chatting with Bob and Roxanne definitely made the trip more enjoyable as well. They were very nice and made sure we were comfortable. My husband and I will be back for sure!

Fun, dry, uncomplicated camp.

Our Yurt
The Yurt was exactly as expected. Sturdy wood floor and completely waterproof. Plenty of space to spread out and play games while rain passes. There is an outhouse with a hand washing station a short walk from the Yurt. Nearby the Yurt they also had a standard 10’ x 10’ screened canopy assembled with a picnic table under it. There was ample amounts of deadfall firewood and Bob even had a seed-fire smoldering when we got there. Quickly after arriving we realized we forgot our camp chairs. No worries…we had coolers and other items to improvise for the first night. The next day when we returned from Mora there was a restored wood bench sitting in front of the campfire. We did a fair amount of casual biking up and down their long driveway and along the rolling gravel roads surrounding their property. We passed one car, livestock, deer and some other wildlife so while the dog enjoyed running with us there were a lot of distractions. The camp is surrounded by lots of vegetation so while it’s very private you have to be prepared for mosquitos. They’re worst at sunset and when you sit still but they’re pretty much gone by nightfall so they don’t really disrupt the campfire too much. Bob and Roxanne appear to be making constant improvements to the Yurt experience. This was a fun and unusual outdoor experience, so if you’re looking for an undemanding way to get out into the woods and have a guaranteed “dry sleeping experience” no matter the weather, this is a good option.
