Relax on a secluded and beautiful hobby farm in the North Woods while you spend your days exploring Lake Superior's North Shore or popping into Duluth or Two Harbors for all they have to offer! 20 acres of woods, pasture, and trails greet you as you enjoy one of North Shore Hermitage's comfy accommodations as your basecamp. Walk or bike down the quiet gravel road, breathe in the woods and wildflowers, and feel the cool breeze from the largest freshwater lake in the world just down the hill. You're four minutes to Scenic highway 61, six minutes from the beaches of Lake Superior, ten minutes to the grocery store in Duluth, fifteen minutes to Two Harbors, and zero seconds to the relaxing getaway you're looking for! Our family loves welcoming people to the unending beauty of the North Shore and helping folks experience what we get to live every day! Whether you're here for a week to to take in the shore, hike, bike, swim, fish, sail, rock hunt, cross country ski, snowshoe, run the marathon, birdwatch, surf (yes, that's a thing), shop, watch the sled dog races, enjoy a music festival, see Bentleyville, and relax OR you need a short stopover on your way farther "up the shore," North Shore Hermitage is the perfect place for your trip! We're just far enough "up the shore" to feel on vacation, but close enough to Duluth to have it all. Check out each site for your level of comfort and get ready to enjoy the Hermitage.

Do you need some calm in a storm or a quiet place to launch your adventures on the North Shore? Look no further. Just a few minutes from North Shore Hermitage, the McQuade Harbor provides Lake Superior boaters a safe landing between the busy port of Duluth and the quiet village of Knife River. Boats can plan their launch from the harbor or take emergency refuge when a storm closes in and they're caught by surprise. The Landing Cabin is YOUR safe harbor at North Shore Hermitage! This cabin is close to the entrance of the property so you can just land, toss your belongings onto the deck, and relax! Tucked in the woods just off the long driveway, this 12 x 12 four season, insulated cabin comes equipped with a queen-sized inner spring futon bed, desk, rocking chair, electricity, propane heat, and a cozy electric fireplace. A cask of drinking water will be waiting for you with unlimited refills for drinking and washing. A few dishes, and a small hotpot will be available inside and unlimited firewood is available for campfire cooking near the cabin. Down the trail is a clean, low-odor, outhouse and a small porta-potty is available for use inside the cabin for winter bookings with extreme cold. Our traditional woodfired sauna (with outdoor cold hose for rinsing!) is available upon request. Extra wool blankets are always available, but please bring your own bedding and any towels or linens you may use. (A required clean and soft mattress pad will be provided.) Cellular coverage can be a bit spotty, so be prepared with a personal hotspot, download what you need before your trip, or plan to totally unplug. The cabin is equipped with a TV for DVD viewing only; bring your favorite or borrow from our selection. (No cable or satellite is available on the TV, we're old school!) "The Happy Camper" Camper- a 20 foot Passport hybrid camper that has everything you'll need for your stay. Two queen sized beds, a pull out sofa, and even a convertible table will allow up to six guests. The hybrid nature of the camper allows you to zip open the screened walls of the queen beds for an outdoor experience or zip up to turn on the A/C or heater if it's a chilly night up in our north woods. The Happy Camper has: a bathroom with shower, a propane stove, a refrigerator/freezer, a microwave, and a double sink, making it the perfect base camp for your stay. Dishes, utensils, and basic cookware are at the ready, so just bring your linens (or sleeping bags), groceries and personal gear and call it good! Full bed linens and towels available for an additional cleaning fee. The Happy Camper is hooked up to power so you'll be able charge your devices and have all the light you need, however bring your personal hotspot for Wifi if needed. The TV in The Happy Camper is for DVD use only. The Happy Camper has a 40 gallon water tank that will be filled with potable water when you arrive. As with all campers, being mindful of water usage will avoid a refill during your stay. However, should you run out of water, the hosts will happily refill the tank as soon as possible.

Amazing Glamp
The Landing Cabin
This is an amazing Glamp! A hidden gem for sure! Molly was super nice and informative about the land and places that were close by to visit. Her dogs are really friendly and it was fun to meet the sheep and see Kevin run around! We loved her flower bouquet and enjoyed some fresh produce from the farm. If you're headed up this way, definitely spend some time here. It's very quiet and peaceful. We would stop again! 11 out of 10 stars

Not far from Duluth - perfect!
The Landing Cabin
This was absolutely more than I anticipated it would be. What a friendly family, amazingly friendly dogs, and welcoming atmosphere. Even the kids help with the guests! We felt very welcome, the firewood was endless, and Molly and her husband have thought of everything. You could need. Everything from an umbrella in case it rains to a toothbrush, just in case you forgot. One. Homemade bread was waiting for us and that was completely a surprise and absolutely wonderful! I can't say enough good things, but this family and this property and this rental is a delight. Very private feeling yet welcoming atmosphere. Thank you!

Perfect Stay!
The Landing Cabin
We had a wonderful stay! The cabin was comfortable and Molly was so welcoming. We loved meeting her animals (Hank and Stella were the most precious lovely dogs!), enjoying the scenery, and being able to relax and refresh. Everything was perfect! Can’t wait to come again.

Could not have had a better experience than my short lived day here. The hospitality was great, perfect location, the cabin was cozy with all the perks of a campsite feel around it. 10/10 would recommend for anyone looking for somewhere to stay in Duluth. Will definitely plan on making a trip in the winter.

PERFECT
The Landing Cabin
Perfect ☝️Nights Sleep, hospitality, friendliness of Molly, Cory and family, items supplied with the cabin were useful especially the 2 gallon tasty drinking water, loaf of homemade brown bread and six of their fresh chicken eggs! Out front the plenteous firewood ready for the fire, picnic table for the one meal we had there, woodland views ~ from the secluded outhouse was a surprising treat! We were up and down the North Shore of Lake Superior each of the three days two nights! Lovely choice!

The Landing Cabin
I love camping at the North Shore Hermitage! Molly was such a wonderful host and walked us around. Hank and Stella kept us feeling safe but never bothered us even a little (but they did love getting pets and attention) we enjoyed our personal slice of heaven and we can’t WAIT to come back in the fall some time. Thank you a billion more times Molly for being so kind and welcoming!

Peaceful Getaway
The Landing Cabin
What a fantastic getaway. This dry cabin is so cozy and has everything you could want from extra drinking water to dcds stocked for your enjoyment. There's lots of windows, surrounded by woods, absolutely peaceful scene. I spent hours by the campfire in the morning just enjoying the woods and the bird calls. The trails around the property are wide and well cared for. Molly is a fantastic host who respects your privacy but is available for whatever you need. Highly recommend!
