The Yellow Dog River Forest Retreat is a wilderness camping area that offers a rustic outdoor experience with thoughtful amenities. Located on Deer Creek, a prominent tributary of the Yellow Dog River, the property is just a 5-minute walk from the river itself. The site is adjacent to the Yellow Dog River Community Forest and is approximately 3 miles from the downstream waterfalls and 2 miles from the upstream Slate Falls. Mountain bikers can access the Powell Township trail system with a 15-minute drive toward Big Bay and Thomas Rock. The site features an outdoor kitchen area equipped with pots and pans for cooking over the fire, as well as dishes and silverware for serving meals. While there is no running water, drinking water, dishwashing water, and firewood are provided. There are 20 campsites to choose from; however, only one family or group is booked at a time, ensuring complete privacy. The property also includes a composting outhouse. Parking is located approximately ¼ mile from the campsite, so guests should be prepared to hike in with their gear.
