The Sugar Shack & Woodpecker Creek Camping 40 Acres of Northwoods located 17 miles north of Marquette. Nestled in the foothills of the Huron Mountains, our space offers a peaceful and rustic off grid camping experience. Close proximity to all the outdoor recreation that the Upper Peninsula has to offer. The small town of Big Bay is minutes away with a general store, fuel, bar, cafe and restaurant. The Sugar Shack is a cozy 12x12 rustic cabin tucked into 40 Acres of Northwoods and located 17 miles north of Marquette. Hidden in the foothills of the Huron Mountains, you will be in close proximity to our best ski, snowshoe and hiking trails. The little town of Big Bay is just minutes away with a general store, fuel, bar, cafe and restaurant. Our cabin is equipped with one full sized bed, warm bedding, gas heater, table, 2-burner hotplate, pots, pans and utensils. No running water but plenty of potable water and a wash sink provided. The outhouse is located approximately 200ft from The Sugar Shack. The road in is a well maintained seasonal dirt road, though we do recommend all-wheel drive in the winter. If travelling in the winter, expect snow. If travelling in the summer, expect bugs. These are the likely obstacles of our environment, and a fair trade off for living in such a unique and beautiful place. Solar-powered electricity, No refrigerator, coolers welcomed Nearby: NTN Ski Trails, Yellowdog Falls, Powell Township Bike Trails, Burns Landing, Lake Superior Beach Access

Oaky Camp
Great spot close enough to town but felt remote. Getting in was fun and the outhouse was excellent. Thanks Ryan for a great couple days.

Oaky Camp
Loved this quiet, backwoods camp. Such a great way to engage with nature and get away from the crowds on a holiday weekend. Also appreciate the firewood for sale (cash or venmo) on site!

Pottery in the woods!
Ryan was a fantastic camp host, his property is remote and quiet, and his camp sites are thoughtfully laid out. Would definitely recommend.
