Half way between Chicago and Detroit is a city named Kalamazoo. Our place is near the intersection of US 131 and I-94, so whichever direction you are traveling is accessible. Whether you are heading to the beauty of "up north" or running between the big cities east and west, this is a great spot to rest and enjoy some down time. Lake Michigan is a 40 minute drive west from here and if you are a bicyclist, you can ride the Kal-Haven Trail from the trail head about 2 miles from here, all the way to the Big Lake and back (35.5 miles one way). We have trails in the woods and open fields to look over, depending on your preference. As of this year, there is no electricity and water hookup, so tents or trailers with electric and water are your option. We have a bell tent available for a single or a couple to stay. On that same site is room for a trailer or tents, if you want to invite your friends, and we've built a cooking shelter and a bath house that has a compost toilet and a shower with on demand hot water from solar energy. We have a horse farm on the property and offer horse experiences (All our activities are done on the ground near or with the horses, so, no riding is offered) at an additional fee. It is expected that you will remain outside the fence from the horses while you are staying, unless you sign a release and are accompanied by the owner to interact with them. We do not allow dogs. There are two campsites cleared in the woods, for tent camping, and more will be cleared in 2025, as time allows. There will be a bathhouse with a compost toilet and on-demand hot water nearby those campsites. If you want to stay before our build, we will offer a lower rate, but expect you to take away your own waste when you leave or clarify with us where whether there is an appropriate place on the property to dispose of it. At some point during the fall of 2025, we are placing a restored vintage 1957 Ideal camper in a separate area of the property. It will have solar power and an indoor compost toilet, with a stove and sink. It will host a single or a couple who can sleep on a full sized mattress. Another sleeping area may be offered from converting the table, but we are not sure how comfortable it will be until we've completed the renovation.

Private meadow Tent at the Woods

100%
(1)
RV/tent site · Sleeps 4 · Vehicles under 35 ft
Site 2 is situated beyond the Bell Tent and into the woodsy area. It has a tent already set up, a fire pit, a picnic table and a swing. There are no other amenities, which means you will have to bring your own portable toilet until we can set something permanent out there. There is a toilet and solar shower down the hill from the site and if that is something you can get to, you're welcome to use it. There is no water or electricity at the campsites, just quiet seclusion. The cell towers are generally good for Verizon customers.

Bell Tent on Horse Farm

100%
(10)
Bell tent · Sleeps 4 · 1 bedroom · 1 bed · 1 toilet
Facing south over an open hay field, this 60 ft diameter tent holds a full size bed, a table with 2 chairs, bedside tables, a pitcher and bowl for tidying up without leaving the tent and various seating options. There is a bath house behind the tent that has on-demand hot water from a tank that supplies a sink and shower. The compost toilet has a diverter and is typical for a travel compost toilet. The bath house is supplied with some basics and the solar motion-sensor lights will come on for you at night and turn off again when you leave. There is a small covered cook shelter next to the tent with a grill and some basic cooking supplies. Containers of water will be left out for your cleanup and trash receptacles will be around, likely labeled for recycling, burnables and compost. There is a fire pit near the tent and cook shelter and with all the storms that have come through, fire wood should be plentiful. If you need starter paper, let us know. The horses are fenced in behind the camp and may come up to supervise your activities. There are five of them and they are pretty friendly, but please be careful not to get zapped by the electric fence if you choose to pet the through the fence. You are not allowed inside the fence unless you've signed a release and are accompanied by the owner.
