Owned by Don and Leslie Edmunds, who have called Munising home for over thirty years, this campground offers a rare opportunity to enjoy camping in a tranquil setting surrounded by timber, allowing guests to experience both togetherness and solitude. The property, originally acquired from Leslie’s grandfather Joe and his wife Ida, holds a special place in the family’s history. After their passing, the couple’s legacy inspired the naming of the campground. Since opening in 2017, JoeIda has welcomed visitors from across the country and even as far as Sweden, fostering a sense of community among campers. Located just twenty-eight miles east of Munising and eighteen miles west of Grand Marais, JoeIda Campground is conveniently situated one mile south of Kingston Lake and one mile off Highway H58. The access road is primitive, making it ideal for tents, truck campers, and trailers under forty feet in length. While larger units have successfully accessed the campground, we recommend considering your towing experience. Our pet-friendly facility also permits off-road vehicles.     Mosquitoes are horrible

    It’s a very gorgeous place, but the mosquitoes are horrible you can not go outside without getting bit like crazy we had to spend the time in the tent or in the car because as soon as you walked out you would get attacked, yes we had mosquitoes repellent and they still bit like crazy!!

    Well, the campground was absolutely beautiful. However, we made our reservations through an app called hip camp. We chose this particular place because it said that there was a shower on site and it also stated that site number 1, had a water pump which is why we chose that particular campsite. We get to the campsite and guess what? There's no water pump on site number one. In fact, it's all the way down on the opposite end of the campground. No shower could be found either which kind of defeat the purpose of why we actually chose this place. I went to actually double check the information via hip camp, and now it's actually stating that this campsite is " coming soon" To the hip camp app. Well how could it be " coming soon"... If we already made reservations? The incorrect information via the hip camp app kind of ruined our trip and we traveled almost 6 hours to get here! This one was probably our fault, but we are newer residents to Michigan so we are probably just unaware but we went towards the end of June. Must be the worst time to go because the mosquitoes were so terrible you couldn't even stand outside to try to cook any food. I mean they're just all over you in swarms. Massive swarms everywhere. We basically had to stay inside of our tent, which of course again defeats the whole purpose of " camping out"! So next time we will be planning more seasonally appropriate!

    the campground was gorgeous and bathrooms were so clean and well maintained! my ONLY issue was that there was so many mosquitoes. so so so many. we were only able to hang out in our tents despite copious amounts of bug spray, citronella candles and wearing hoodies and pants. the mosquitos still found a way to bite the only exposed skin there was, our faces and hands. obviously not the campgrounds fault, again it was beautiful and well maintained but seriously be prepared for the obscene amount of mosquitoes.
