Have A Lake Of Your Own!

Great spot. We were the only cabin, so lots of privacy and the bathroom to ourselves. We rented a canoe and purchased firewood, they were ready and waiting upon our arrival. Lake was great to canoe around. Trail loop was short and sweet, but a nice walk through the woods. Seeing the horse get let out in the afternoon was really nice.

This was our second time staying here. Totally love the place. Enjoying the lake in our kayaks. Seeing the horses passing close to the campground. Definitely will recommend this place to stay.

We stayed in Penguin Palace. The cabin and campsite were clean and as expected. We enjoyed canoeing on the lake, relaxing by the fire pit, and peach picking nearby. I would recommend this place for a nice outdoor weekend!

(This review is a copy bc I booked two sites) We had a great time! Our group was five families, 10 adults and 6 young kids. We booked both tent sites and basically sprawled out all around the lake access. The kids bounced between the playset and the lake and it was really nice to be able to see the kids from the tent area. We also appreciated being able to shower and collect potable water. The host was very helpful and everyone we interacted with on the property was lovely.

The cabin was easy to get to but felt far away from the real world. We enjoyed having a fire in the pit every night and cooking our dinner and s'mores over it. The owner was always prompt and accessible for any questions we had. Would recommend if you're looking for a primitive cabin site.

Great spot!

Great place to relax and unwind with awesome hosts. Caught a few bass, saw a ton of horses, and enjoyed the spacious campground.

Easy place to camp and my Girl Scout troop had a blast. I wish the potable water source was closer to our space but I would stay again and bring a wagon. We loved canoeing around the lake, playing on the playground, the horses being moved, the friendly dog visits, and the foggy mornings. The sunsets were spectacular!

I love horses and farm stay, so I would recommend it, I know that it is a little bit expensive for a tent, but it is worth it! Stunning nature, many many beautiful horses, yes, I am glad that I choose this place!

Site 5 - Little cabins in the woods!

We enjoyed our time camping at Cedar. The bathrooms are a close walk and are well kept. Although we did not mind, the noise in the early morning will wake you. Nonetheless the view of the lake is beautiful! We look forward to booking again.

Quiet and comfortable cabins. Lots to do on the property and surrounding area. Bathrooms were very clean! The cabins are very summer camp nostalgic. It would be awesome for families, reunions, or scouts.

We had a great time here! We rented the lake tent camping sites. Super spacious, laid back space. We had some newer campers in our group so it was also nice to have access to the bathrooms and shower in the rec center. Everyone was really friendly and it was beautiful seeing the horses throughout the day. Would absolutely recommend!

This was a great place! Very happy with it! Everyone there was very nice and helpful. It was cool to see the horses going back and forth throughout the day and there were a few very friendly dogs roaming around the property as well. The lake was great, very secluded and deep. Will definitely be back.

This was a wonderful place.

It was a last minute booking and everything was great. They have a wonderful property. I recommend to everyone. The horses were beautiful I loved that the farm dogs liked my dog. Very dog friendly.

I went here with 8 of my girlfriends and we seriously had the funnest day/night. Horses are beautiful, felt safe and private, lake is stunning! 30 min drive from a huge beach on Lake Michigan! Owners are so chill, cute dogs roaming around:) No complaints at all!

Fantastic retreat

We had such a good time and can't wait to visit again. It's absolutely worth it to rent both lakeside camp sites and you have your own, private spot with plenty of room right on the lake, with lots of space for cars and tents. We had a mix of seasoned and newbie campers, plus a baby and expecting mother, so we wanted to have bathroom, shower facilities, and water nearby. It's really nice that you can use the main lodge facilities here, which are a definite step up from the port-a-potties at most other camps that have a bathroom. Amy and her family are really welcoming and let you wander around, check out the stables, meet the horses, watch the lessons, etc. The horses are absolutely amazing and beautiful -- seeing them go in and out each morning and afternoon was a highlight. There are also some super friendly dogs that would keep up company every so often. The spot has everything you would need -- a nice big fire ring, two wooden picnic tables, plenty of wood you can order, etc. The dock had floated away and the fish were spawning when we were there, but we'd love to come back and do some fishing and kayaking in the future. It's a super easy drive from Chicago, the town of Lawrence has a gas station and Dollar General if you forgot anything, and there are plenty of forests for hiking nearby (plus some breweries). Overall we had a really fantastic time -- thanks for having us.

Potentially Good Site, Needs work.

The lake was gorgeous! Unforunately it is surrounded by an area that struck us as pretty trashy. Muddy horse walk between the crossing to get to the campsite which we were warned about after we booked. The campsite itself was ground saturated and pretty unaccommodating. We had some gear failures and left a day early due to the cold ( 14F) and our equipment. On the way out some lady was yelling at my daughter that she was about to bring horses out of the barn (no horses in sight mind you) but she wanted us to wait for whT I assumed would be about a 15 minute wait. Since it takes less than a minute to pull off the guard rail, drive through, and restore it, we ignored her yelling and left anyway. Anyway, if they decluttered the campsite and installed some sort of drainage it would vastly improve the experience. And we could do without someone yelling at my kid, at least for no good reason.

Lovely 3-day camping trip!

We loved this HipCamp! The lake is beautiful and clear. I went snorkeling and saw lots of little bluegill, minnows, a largemouth bass and a baby Northern Pike There were friendly dogs and lots of horses! The horses' pasture was huge and hilly and woodsy with nice hiking trails. Amy was super friendly and let me gather some Paw Paw fruit to take home to ripen. Our dog loved camping off leash! We rented a canoe and paddle boat which added another fun activity. A great three night trip! We will be back!

The lake front site was beautiful! I would definitely recommend booking both sites if you want more privacy, as the two sites are very close to each other. My group had a great time.

We had a great stay at Cedar Lodge. My sons enjoyed looking at the horses and we loved kayaking on the lake. Make sure you bring lanterns or some form of lamp- the cabins are pretty dark even during the day. It was nice having the shower house and a real/flushing toilet and sink (we didn't take a shower but nice that we could have) Loved that we got to bring our dog. Ducks Inn and the other larger cabin each have one outlet but no lights so bring a power strip or something if you need multiple outlets to cook, charge phones, plug in a lamp etc.

Great for what we needed.

We had an enjoyable stay ay Cedar. Plenty of space for three kids to run around. Each cabin has about ten+ bunks and shelves for storage. Our cabin was Raven Haven. The solar powered lights were not working in the cabin and happy we brought our own lanterns etc. I'd also suggest bringing a mat or rug to place at the door to avoid a dirty floor and soap for the bathroom. Our first night we had a cute farm dog protecting us. We later found out he was the neighbor's dog Bruno! He is very friendly. Order your wood before you arrive too. Amy will have it on your cabin porch when you get there. Our only cons, the lake did not seem swimmable for us. We were happy to have family nearby with a spot to swim. Also, some of our neighbors had no camp etiquette. One cabin had a huge speaker and played music so loud we could not hear each other talk. The other cabin had no idea what they signed up for. They moved their picnic table and fire ring in front of our cabin which caused smoke to come into our cabin and created a lot of noise for sleeping kids. Overall, it was great for what we needed and the kids had a great time.
