Cabin 5 was great for our Boy Scouts’ weekend, actually more luxurious than we’re used to - full kitchen (large fridge/freezer, microwave, stove/oven, no toaster), big bathroom (2 toilet stalls, 2 showers, long counter with 2 sinks), comfortable couch & couple recliners, bunk beds with comfortable mattresses (but noisy plastic covers), lots of room for tables to eat & play games, plenty warm, large separate entry mud room. Many activities available even in winter - human foosball, climbing wall, beautiful wooded hiking & snowshoe trails, disc golf course, open fields for capture the flag and other games. Community park 3 miles down the road has a great sledding hill too. Staff friendly and available. Huge parking lot makes it easy to get in & out with big trailers. Wifi signal was too weak to connect but we were getting away from electronics anyway.

We had a great time. I’ve been out there before with Girl Scouts and liked the site.
We did have an issue with unsecured rodent poison however and our puppy got into it. Rodent poison shouldn’t be used where kids and pets have access to it.

The cottages at GOREC are a great venue for a weekend away. There are lots of outdoor amenities to enjoy (disc golf, hiking, etc.), and it’s nice to have a roof over your head in case of inclement weather, but still enjoy being immersed in the greater outdoors.
Bonus was the greeting each morning from a few neighborly does keeping an eye on us.

These cottages are a bargain. Bunks for 4, electricity in cottage, showers bathrooms and refrigerators in central building. All for the cost of a tent campsite. Nice walking trails and a couple of lakes next to the area. Saw several deer and lots of unusual black squirrels. Staff very helpful.

Yellowstone Campsite 8
It was a good site. Fire pits, picnic tables at the sites all in good shape. Good trees to set up the hammock. Water was nearby the site along with the vault toilets. Showers were in the opposite direction.
Everything was well marked, the facilities were clean and in good condition.
I will definitely go back.

This site was everything we needed it to be. It was essentially a base camp for traveling around Traverse City and Sleeping Bear Dunes for a long weekend. For $35 you get a private mini cabin with 4 bunks. If you're looking for a cheap place to drop off your gear and sleep at night thats literally 15 minutes from Traverse City then this is the place for you! If you're looking for a 5 star resort then you'll need to look elsewhere.

We had a great time visiting this campsite! The staff was very friendly and the grounds were clean and accommodating. We loved that the firewood was included in the price of the campsite! We had a wonderful, relaxing weekend walking the trails and hanging out at our campsite.

This reminded me of summer camp when you're a kid. A bunch of simple, cute little 4 person cabins with 2 bunks each. We slept 4 adults and my 13 month old in his pack n play. We weren't cramped. It's bigger than it seems, still small, but comfy for the amount of people and things we had. One large fire pit for all cabins to share, with wood benches to sit on. Fire wood provided. Large community cabin with plenty of tables. Showers (admitedly, I didn't even look at them), one room single bathroom with a sink. We had a bit of trouble checking in but that's my fault. We got there much later than expected. Once we got in touch with someone and were told what to do and where to go, it was great.

Large campsite, quiet, secluded, clean showers and bathrooms, very kind staff, fun campsite to explore. Close to Boardman River for kayaking and hiking. Close to Traverse City for mini golf and other fun things. Loved it!!

Unlike other organized campgrounds like KOA, this is rustic and right in the woods. You would end up collecting wood from dead trees for your campfire. The toilets are within walking distance. There are near by lakes where one can fish. Very decent place to stay and is fun

Very reasonably priced accommodations. Beautiful property to explore. Tried the new disc golf course. Lots of wildlife sightings including a group of 4 deer seen repeatedly throughout the weekend. Can’t wait to return!

The place (boy scout camp?) was almost completely vacant.
The saving grace was there was nobody at any of the sites next to us.
The everglades site was as you might think, next to a small swamp.
The toilet pits where not bad. (very clean for pit type) There was running water and a sink to clean dishes.
We never did meet the host or had any communication with him other than a letter taped to the door of the office telling us where the site was.
The firewood that was supplied was just a stack of old decaying tree logs
The nicest thing about our stay was we had a quiet night,so we slept well.:)
We didn't like having to get out of the car every time to open and close the gate at the entrance to the campsites.
We only stayed 1 night out of 2 because of the storms that were forecasted.
Overall we had an OK experience.

Our scout troop stayed in the bunkhouse on our way to and from our high adventure trip to the Great Lakes Sailing Adventure in Mackinaw City. Just what we needed. The boys enjoyed exploring the camp and the staff went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed.

This is an old Boy Scout camp. We stayed in a cabin with two bunk beds. Price was right. Nice and quiet. The cabin was decent- had electric and a ceiling fan, but if you like privacy, bring some sheets and a few binder clips as none of the windows (or the door) had any type of window covering. Also know that the cabin doors do not lock. (originally used as cabin for kids, I understand why-so do not leave valuables) The cabins are VERY close to each other. Restrooms adequate. We didn't use the showers. Only one area for a picnic table and campfire for the entire cabin area. There are many 'unfinished' cabins left a while ago that give the area a ghost town feeling... It would be nice to see them built or torn down. We didn't venture around the camp as we were just there for sleeping, but it looks interesting. This camp could really be a cool place fixed up a little bit- I know there are tons of travelers looking for places close to Traverse City that will not cost an arm and a leg. It was much better than tent camping- I was glad to not have to deal with setting up a tent! We will most likely go again and will leave time to explore the entire camp next time. Very interesting place and I am glad we found it on HipCamp! Been coming to Traverse City my entire life and never heard of it!

This place was such a gem to find. Affordable cabin camping with access to fresh water and showers. We explored the area around the cabins too, beautiful and very cool! Recomend for sure!

Beautiful camp in the woods about 20 minutes from downtown Traverse City. Our group canoed while there and the lake was like glass. Lodge had bunk beds, a bathroom with two stalls and two showers, two sinks, a kitchen with full fridge, stove and oven. Campfire circle outside with wood. Camp administrators were wonderful.

The sites were well maintained. There was a lot of firewood available so you didn't have to worry about bringing any in. The communal fire pit was a great feature!

Host was wonderful. However, I received a bunch of fat mosquito bites after using the bug infested shower and bathroom. I was meticulous in using bug spray and wearing long pants during my race and then to be stung after the race, was a little disappointing. The cabins did not have locks on them and it was not clear to us we needed to bring our own bedding because the mattresses were plastic and there was no bedding available.

I stayed in a large bunkhouse (#4). It was kind of dusty and humid, but that i am sure is because it had been empty for a little while. Bathroom was clean kitchen was spacious. Bunkbeds were a bit creaky, but fairly comfortable.
The staff and volunteers were very helpful when i had questions. I would definitely stay again

Great, secluded tent site. Nick provided excellent support answering our questions and showing us around the property. We had some big storms and he kept us up to date on the severity and checked in on us when the bad stuff came. Then the sun came out and we were back to enjoying the grounds!
