It was an exactly what we expected! We were not very well versed with the RV lifestyle (water pump, gas stove top, etc.) but it was so easy to figure out for those that aren’t plus Alison’s response times were almost instantaneous!! If you are used to those things though, this is a perfect little piece of heaven right on the water! They have three nice kayaks, a couple canoes, and a nice working paddle boat which we took to the middle of the lake where there is an island with a very healthy American Bald Eagle family thriving! We were able to see both adults and a younger but very big Eagle spreading its wings! Sunset was beautiful, FISH EVERYWHERE, and with the firewood so close and conveniently accessible the campfires were grand! Looking forward to our return trip !!

Unkempt property/gorgeous lake

I’m leaving a detailed review…There are pros and cons to this property that I really wished I knew before booking. I’ll start with the cons. The first thing we noticed upon arrival was how it looked like it hadn’t been maintained in a long time. The wooded sites are beautiful. The open site by the lake where we stayed was so dirty we almost packed up and left. Trash, cigarette butts, overgrown field, broken glass, dog poop. We brought our own square drop trailer and large tent. The other 4 parked trailers looked in shambles and totally overgrown and with garbage all over the place. It was unsettling for sure. Boat engines, broken equipment everywhere. The trailer next to rangers site was so disheveled and dirty outside it looked like a health scare. Apparently the owner stays there on occasion which we were very surprised that it was habitable. The camp “kitchen” was usable, and the showers and bathrooms were very dirty. We didn’t use the showers at all, but the bathroom was a necessity so we had to use it. The neighbors’s huge dog kept coming and barking at us and pooping nearby. The pros- the lake. Gorgeous, pristine, clean, wildlife, loons, bald eagles nesting, fish galore. If I could have spent every second of our stay on the lake I would have. It is a slice of heaven but unfortunately I won’t ever stay there again unless there is a huge overhaul of the property.

Came up for a short weekend getaway & had a great time! I had booked one of the camper sites by mistake & Alison was super understanding and accommodating—luckily nobody else was staying that weekend so we had our pick of the tent sites. Highly recommended Silver Maple! It is a spacious tent site with a fire pit & two picnic tables. It is tucked away from the road just enough to feel private & it is close to the out house! The open area by the lake is where you will find the shower & outdoor kitchen as well as kayaks, a paddleboat, swimming area etc. We made use of the paddleboat to go fishing on the lake & visit the island where eagles nest. We spent a good amount of time hanging out on the dock & in the surrounding woods as well. Alison & her family were lovely & welcoming & we felt right at home. So happy to have made some new friends up North. This weekend was just myself & my partner but this would be a great spot for a family or a group as well!

Silver Maple, a just right mix

Silver Maple tent site has abundant room including two picnic tables. Surroundings offered a flat tent space, lovely tall trees to hear the wind’s rustle leaves and look up at the canopy above with mesh ceiling. Near a pit outhouse, bonus. Just a brief gravel road to beautiful wood showers and more amenities like an outdoor sink with faucet, Starlink internet and dock at lakeside for stargazing or other fun. Welcoming hosts, just look for gravel road turn by handful mailboxes before/after Wicklund (don’t turn there). You’ll know the entry point from seeing blue property lines. Look forward to a return trip!!

Second time at Sugarbush Camper - once again, we absolutely loved it. So peaceful and relaxing, the kids loved the trampoline and easy access to the lake. Definitely our favorite spot to keep coming back to!

Our family loved staying at the camper on Stanley Lake. It was quiet and had everything we needed. Hosts were so friendly and made us feel welcome. This was our two year olds first camping trip and we couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay!

Great camping location

Great camping experience. Family shared camping land with very welcoming hosts. Checked in with us multiple times during our stay to make sure we had everything we needed. Close to a lot of activities like Bond Falls as well as having lake access.

Perfect!

Allison and her family were so kind and accommodating, the location of camp was stunning, the lake was so clean It made fishing off the dock that much more fun. The camper was comfortable and had everything we needed. When we weren’t fishing for brook trout in the iron river we spent our time kayaking and swimming in the lake. Would love to stay here again when we head back to iron river.

Rustic sites are the best sites, great outhouses and showers. Rangers site had all the amenities but felt more like a family or hunting site. Make sure you have very specific directions (no cell service for miles!)

Ideal Midwest Lake Weekend!

Kendall's Site

We loved staying on Alison and Cliff's land! We stayed over Fourth of July weekend and they were the best hosts and made us feel like family! The location was amazing! From being on the lake with all of the water sports they let you use (the paddle boat is trickier than it seems!) to being surrounded by national forests, we had a filled weekend. We would definitely stay with them again!

Perfect Spot for kids!

Alison and Cliff have an AWESOME spot to camp and play at! The kids fully enjoyed it. They especially loved the playground built on top of a raft out a bit in the water that they could play on. Super clean lake and easy to swim around and get to the raft. Our 5 and 3 year old both swam out there and went down the slide into the water. Very nice showers with a lot of hot water! Wood everywhere for your fires. Fresh chicken eggs if you’d like some. The view and fishing were amazing and plenty of deer surrounding the property. Kids also loved the little playground when they weren’t in the water. Cliff was very helpful and communicated very efficiently. No matter where we camped it was going to be dry and the mosquitos were going to be thick, so nothing to do with Alison and Cliff’s setup itself. Perfect spot to get away from everything. Would definitely book again if we were ever going through again.

Fun, family friendly campsite!

Quiet, family friendly atmosphere! Camper accurately described with comfortable matress, kitchen, and A/C. Campsite has several amenities including firepit, lake, kayak, paddle boat, floating playground, showers, etc... Alison and Cliff are great hosts. They will answer any questions for you on a timely basis! This is my GO TO place in the UP.
