In the hills of Western Massachusetts hides Nabi—an off-grid glorified she-shed that has the audacity to offer marginally superior amenities for a cabin of its stature. With an always changing decor, this 184 sq ft space is for people who seek solitude and are comfortable in the silence of the woods, where the world can't reach you. People come here to do dangerous things like: sleep for 9 hours, finish a thought, read the book from 6 months ago, or remember who they were before notifications.Born out of the desire to "disappear" when everything becomes too much comes the idea of building Nabi. Books line the shelves. Ephemera fill the walls. Odd but beautiful things find their rightful places in the nook and cranny of this space. There is no WiFi but civilization is really not that far. The she-shed cabin sits atop a small hill overlooking a meadow as its front view and the mountains from a distant, an old growth forest to the right side, and a road to the left that can be visible especially in the winter. It is generally a quiet town but occasional passing vehicles will still be seen and heard from the cabin, unless all windows and door are closed. This is still camping in the woods, albeit protected from the elements, so expect interaction with bugs indoors and sightings of wild animals outdoors. Guests are free to roam in the field until the posted No Trespassing signs. Nabi's design and limited amenities are to encourage guests to go offline while here to fully enjoy their stay. It is solar-powered, has an indoor half bath with a composting toilet, 2 5-gallon freshwater jugs with well water (one indoor and one outdoor), and a diesel heater for those cold nights. An outdoor kitchenette (for modest cooking ambitions) is usable until the weather says no. Outdoor sink is shut off in the winter. There are no outlets here, just a 12v charging cable for your portable devices. A lockbox for your phones is also part of the amenities. The goal is to offer guests a pause button – feeling deeply restored when they leave and feeling slightly confused about why life ever felt so loud.
