Dancing Leaf Farm is a small sheep farm in the Ag Reserve. The charming farmhouse is 90 years old with a barn the same age, a cottage studio and a small garden shed. The two acres accommodates a veggie garden and many flower gardens. Chickens provide eggs (seasonally) and the sheep provide wool for the hand dyed yarns that stock the studio. Dalis has lived on the property since 1983, working the grounds for the gardens, starting the business, Dancing Leaf Farm and renovating the inside of the home. Located in Barnesville, the smallest incorporated town in Maryland, with only 150 residents. The home and grounds are surrounded by fields and woods, wildflowers, soybeans and corn.

Sheep and their Chickens Farm
Not at all as expected
The campsite area is a patch of tree shaded lawn that would otherwise be the backyard to the host's house. The pond is a small backyard type installation, not the farm pond I had envisioned. There are a couple of possible, flatish areas between the numerous tree trunks to pitch a small tent in the back yard, but this is not suitable for a pop up or vehicle camping of any kind. The fire pit was large but it was filled 3 ft high with branches, and I would not have been comfortable starting a fire that close to the house with that material. I suppose I could have moved it. On arrival at 6:30P, I gave a courtesy phone call to the host, who had not come out and who did not pick up my call. In fact, the host never came out or contacted me during my 1-night stay and was not, as I said, reachable by phone. A large, wet dog showed shortly after my arrival to bay at me, but the host didn't come over as I thought she might when I saw the dog. I did hear the host or someone talking outside, maybe in the driveway, loudly enough to wake me at 1:30 in the morning. Since I have a camper "van" setup with my car, I pulled just off the driveway to set up. There was just room enough for my Honda Element between the driveway and the clothesline, which was in use. On the other side of the clothesline was the "campsite" area. The yard was bounded on the other three sides by farming areas or animal pens. Be aware, also, that there is a train station 1/2 mile from this site and a well-traveled road in front of the house. The house is not set well away from the road as a farmhouse would've been, at least in my imagination. Light but audible road traffic continued until 11 or so and then was intermittent. Trains ran through the night with horns and ground-vibrating rumbling. I left at first light after a frequently disturbed "sleep."

Must stay location!
My stay here was awesome! Dalis was very welcoming and friendly. Unfortunately it was thundering the night I was supposed to go so I only stayed one night but it was an enjoyable relaxing time for my dog and I. I am planning on coming back with some friends for another night or two of camping here within the next few weeks. Highly recommend.

Sheep and their Chickens Farm
This was a lovely little campsite! It is in the backyard of a home, separate farmhouse, and chicken coop. It's out of the way enough to feel private, but close enough to be convenient to use the bathroom and kitchen if needed. The sheep and chickens are fun to watch, the firepit and ground for pitching the tent are great, and the landscaping is lovely (butterflies everywhere!). We'd stay here again! It was very serene. We didn't get to meet Dalis, but heard great things from the Airbnb guests.

Sweet and cozy!
Cozy and sweet! Dalis was so friendly! Our camp spot was right outside of an accessible bathroom and shower! It was such a peaceful stay with the sheep and Dalis’s hospitality! I would definitely revisit!

Loved it! Great for kids and dogs
My kids and I had a great time camping at the farm! It was a great escape from our city lives and we were totally unplugged the whole time! I recommend the “experience” tour as a good bonus especially if you have kids. Added bonus for my kids was the little pond with fish and dozens of frogs! Even our dog embraced the country life, running around with the other dogs and gawking at the sheep. It felt totally private and safe even for my sometimes-anxious 10 year old. Think of it as nice car-camping with a tent but with a clean bathroom and kitchen for our use! I highly recommend it as an escape from our usual hectic lives!
