Hawkwood Farm is a historic property in the Catoctin Mountains. The house dates back to 1803. At that time, it is documented that there was a blacksmith shop on the property. There is a functioning blacksmith shop today, as well as an expansive wood working shop. A ;band of rhyolite runs through the property that was used by Native Americans for spear points dating back to the paleolithic period. Presently, we strive to live as sustainably and as closely to nature as possible, being good stewards of the land that we are blessed to call home. If you are looking for lots of open space with a sensational view of the sky then this is the place for you! This site is great for viewing all kinds of celestial events. You will also have access to the rest of what Hawkwood Farm offers including forest trails and an array of wildlife. Pitch a tent, or sleep literally under the stars. ; We are asking that people take their trash with them.

If you are looking for lots of open space with a 360 degree view of the sky then this is the place for you! This site is great for viewing all kinds of celestial events.  You will also have access to the rest of what Hawkwood Farm offers including forest trails and an array of wildlife.  Pitch a tent, or sleep literally under the stars.   We are abiding by strict social distancing procedures, so our contact will be extremely limited at this time.  You may be visited by our good natured Labrador Sawdust and our sweet Great Pyrenees Ivory.  We are asking that people avoid touching our dogs as much as possible during the cover 19 outbreak, and if you do touch them please wipe them with your sanitizing wipe.  We are frequently wiping them with sanitizer on a cloth as well to prevent spread of the virus through contact with the animals and appreciate your cooperation in this.  We are also asking that people take their trash with them so we are not risking contamination from handling other peoples items.

Pitch your tent next to our spring-fed pond that is home to rainbow and native brook trout and frequently visited by wild ducks and blue heron. Enjoy ample shade by day and a fire in the fire ring and some of the best stargazing at night. The main house is across a footbridge, so you have ultimate privacy. Hosts were great! Our car got stuck in the mud, and the hosts helped to pull it out. We also ended up needing help to start the fire, and they immediately came over to help. It is a great place to camp, especially if you are a beginner!

Camping on the meadow at Hawkwood Farm was a delight. The campsite is back far from the road in the midst of fields, but you can drive your car along easy paths up an area very close to the campsite. The design and landscaping of the meadow area is very charming: a large ring area with mown paths and circles within it, and a firepit, picnic table, and some camp chairs in the middle. An extremely quiet and peaceful place. There's also a clean and well-maintained port-a-potty that's about 200 yards away from the campsite. I will likely come back for another stay (and hopefully persuade my girlfriend to join me)

There is no micromanaging at this property. They let you be you and enjoy yourself. I ran out of firewood around 8:30 p.m. and sent a message about two cords which is $20 and he brought it out within 30 minutes.. Awesome property thank you guys so much. I did leave a bag of trash bagged up right there by the fire pit. I'm from out of town just traveling through and didn't know where to put it and I definitely did want to throw it in the woods.

Amazing stargazing!

We absolutely loved camping here! There is beautiful landscaping with mowed walking paths all around the property. The open field allowed for stargazing without obstruction of view from trees and we saw some shooting stars in the early hours of the morning. We woke up to the sounds of roosters from the property and surrounding farms. There is a provided grill to put over the fire to cook on. Chairs and picnic table also available. The property is also an 11 min drive from Gambrill Park if you’re looking to do some hiking!

I absolutely loved the campsite- it felt like a perfect escape into nature. The hosts were incredibly friendly and welcoming, making sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. This was the perfect place for a one night respite before everything in the fall gets busy! I loved hearing the trickle of the stream throughout the night and having a nice fire and having the place all to myself. The hosts were fantastic and I will definitely be coming back!

My family had an absolute blast at this absolute gem!! The property is beautiful. We stayed at Rainbows End, which was a private spot by a flowing creek into a fishing pond. There is a picnic table and fire pit in this great little nook under the trees. It was a truly relaxing spot. If you have little kids, it's the perfect place to let them run while you read a book next to the fire. And the hosts Erin and Angela were amazing. They are honestly wonderful people who were a joy to connect with. We will be back for sure!!

This is our family's second time staying here. We've stayed at both spots now and they are both super amazing. Very quiet, Angela and her family are super nice, and just an all around great place. I would highly recommend, we can't wait to come back.

This is my number one go-to spot. Yes, I live in Frederick just 20 minutes away, and I totally extended my booking last time and went ahead and went to work and came back to this amazing space in the evenings. It’s just the best ever. I’ve been camping and backpacking for years and the spot is beyond lovely. I recommend it to all my inner circle AND I gotta say a part of me (not the higher self) doesn’t want to tell anyone about this gem. I might just hafta book out several years in advance :-)

I do not have the words for how amazing this space and the hosts are. I’m fairly seasoned, having camped, back-packed and airbnbed (or sim app) across the states and abroad. Anhela and Erin’s space is special - uniqur - loved and I always leave feeling just plain a healthier human. Too over the top? Maybe - but I’ve turned down bougie vacays when they meany I couldn’t make it out to a Hawkwood reservation. A gem that I almost don’t want to rave about;)

Angela and Erin’s property is beautiful. We stayed at their Meadow site. There was no one anywhere near us - just clear views of beautiful meadows. And great mowed paths to take a walk and wander the property. Angela and Erin were so responsive and helpful. Our family had a wonderful trip and highly recommend this location.

We had a great little trip camping in the meadow. Hosts were very kind and it is a beautiful spot. My kids enjoyed navigating the mowed meadow trails that circle the camp. Flat ground was great for young campers and easy car access. We will definitely be back!

The hosts are very nice and helpful. The path to the camp is very accessible for basically any car. Site is huge and very pretty especially at night and sunrise.
