Not what we’ve imagined!!!
We've been wanting to book this site for over one year, finally pulled the trigger and booked it for two nights...ended up leaving after just one.
Here are our observations:
Hipcamp address - not even close. Derek talked us through this.
If it even remotely rained weeks before your arrival and you're booking the water site - drive a pick up truck or four wheel drive. The approach will have your 'regular' height vehicle slurping mud and water. Also Do NOT 'care' about your paint of your full size truck. The vegetation has not been trimmed in a while and you WILL receive nature's pin striping.
(Very narrow approach).
Views - PICTURESQUE, though a farmhouse is within sight. Also narrow spot to turn large vehicles around.
Tried to enjoy, but loud music from wooded site (large group, several tents) and ATV traffic until almost 2:00 am kept us from enjoying, so we left, extremely disappointed. We REALLY wanted to like the site, but not sure I can convince my wife to try it again (this time the wooded site). It sounded like those guys had a great time - we, on the other hand lost sleep...and $$$

This spot was great!! We had a blast fishing and relaxing by the camp fire! I would highly recommend this camping spot and we will definitely be back! We caught lots of big catfish here. The host Derek was super helpful and friendly!

OMG. This campsite absolutely BLEW ME AWAY! It's very private and scenic. My very first time ever seeing a Bald Eagle in the wild. Fishing is great! The host , Derek was totally amazing. He Had excellent communication, was able to provide everything I needed to make my weekend the best. To top it off, they Had my tent and air mattress already set up upon arrival, so all I had to do was show up and camp! Trust me, I can go on and on about Leoni. I don't plan on camping anywhere else, and highly recommend it.

Peaceful atmosphere!
Derek provided great hospitality, got extra water for us. Communication was great! Side where we camp was perfect, privacy. We took a walk to the river, access to it was good and the view was beautiful! If you’re looking for a place to relax, no worries and enjoy nature this is a perfect place.

CAMPING QUEEN & LEONI ISLAND
LEONI ISLAND WAS THE PERFECT PRIVATE & PEACEFUL SPOT FOR US, AS I LOVE BACK WOODS CAMPING, I WILL DEFINITELY BE RETURNING. OUR HOST DEREK, ENSURED WE HAD EVERYTHING WE NEEDED DOWN TO ESCORTING US TO THE SITE. HE DIDN'T HOUND US ABOUT ANYTHING, NOT ONCE AND WAS AVAILABLE TO ADDRESS ANY CONCERNS WE MAY HAVE HAD ( WE HAD NONE THO).
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BOOKING LEONI ISLAND 100%!!!

An amazing camping destination!
Amazing experience. Hard to believe you can find such a wonderful, scenic, and private place to camp about an hour from DC! Our hosts were awesome. They met us at the entrance and escorted us to our campsite to ensure we got settled well.

Tree Star
We had a fantastic stay! My husband and I and our dog stayed at the TreeStar Acres site. It was secluded, quiet, clean, and had additional perks like gorgeous string lights! Derek was a wonderful host, extremely responsive and so welcoming, even checking in on us throughout our stay. Highly recommend this spot and hope to be back in the future!

Water Wonderland!
Great Host! So helpful and wanted to ensure we had a pleasant stay. The site is beautiful all the time but it was absolutely amazing at low tide. We fished and played on waters edge. I can’t wait to go back. We also kayaked while there and didn’t see another boat the whole time. I felt like we were alone in a water wonderland.

This was our first time using Hip Camp, and it definitely didn’t disappoint!
Derek’s place was the perfect remote/off the grid get away. It was so quiet and peaceful- it was a great site for enjoying some camping without the crowds/noise of commercial sites The views from camp were beautiful. We enjoyed some time out on the water in our kayaks without worrying about boat traffic. The dogs were a fan too!
Derek was great with communication- quick to respond and available if needed and checked in during our stay. He was also flexible/understanding when we opted to come a day later due to severe thunderstorms.
Definitely would recommend this campsite and would love to come back again!

Safe Place to Be
This was my second time camping with a group on King Leoni and it was everything we were looking for! A safe place for people of color to camp.
Derek welcomed us to our campsite and helped figure out a few last minute supports. The site is nestled in the forest and offers a beautiful view of the sky.
The recently added tree lights add a cozying feeling to the area. If camping in a group the lights offer the opportunity for tents to be slightly spread out along the dimly illuminated trails.
The Petworth Teacher Camping Crew is very thankful!

The site was so cute and easy to get to! Derek provided us extra wood and had lights strung up in the trees that were perfect for not still enjoying the setting, but made us feel secure in moving around and getting to our tent after dark. We're really excited to see the results of the improvements they're working on!

If you want to unplug and enjoy rustic camping at its best, then Leoni Island is the place to be. The views are fantastic and offer a chance to see a large variety of shore birds. Was lucky enough to see an eagle grab a fish just offshore of the campsite. Nights are full of the sounds of nature, and if you like fishing then your days will be full with plentiful catfish. For me at times the more rustic and primitive experience allows time to unplug and really enjoy all that nature provides.

This place was perfect and Derek is an awesome host! I definitely would come back here if I was ever in the area again. I wish I'd been here for more than one night, and would definitely recommend staying here for a weekend to truly enjoy it all. Sunset/sunrise are beautiful and being by the water is so relaxing. Great Camping Great Host
The campsite has a great vibe. You can set up a tent or a hammock almost anywhere as the ground was level. The firepit was a perfect area to lounge and is very private so you can play music into the night. The land is very eclectic with old remnants of the past left behind that made it very interesting to explore. The owners are working hard to get the campground up and running and welcomes feedback. I recommend this campsite right now for just tent campers and those who use hammocks that may not need to bring a lot of things with them only until the parking area closer to the campsite becomes more accessible. If you have a four-wheel drive vehicle you should not have any problems accessing the parking area. We look forward to coming back.

The Trees light up at night!
The new TreeStar site was a wonderful experience… they have lights that you can cut on at night that light up the trees! It was so cool! And it was a beautiful open sky night. I can’t wait to go back !!

Mid-November visit
Derek was very communicative and helpful. Waterfront campsite was not useable due to recent weather events so we stayed at the wooded site, which was beautiful with the fall leaves. The road is under construction and extremely wet and muddy at present. Boots were essential when walking down to the water.

My New favorite place
The road was a a little rough so they recommend 4 wheel drive vehicles while the repair it but it was fun going down there and once I seen the water it all felt like a movie lol. Can’t wait to go back!

ONE OF A KIND CAMPSITE
This is a great spot, only an hour from us in DC. Our hosts were extremely pleasant and helpful in getting us situated. There was fresh water, bug spray, firewood and s'more ingredients waiting for us. The water was beautiful and the spot almost felt like our own deserted island. We'll be back!

This is a very unique site with great views. Derek really makes you feel welcome including with the complementary Smores set, almost running water and barbecue equipment.
The road is a little adventurous but we hear that improvements are in the making :-)

Enjoyed my Night on Leoni Island
This place was great. Five of us stayed on the water and watched the stars come out. We also explored the woods and came across some deer.
Derek was a great host. He met me there and explained the property to me. Felt safe. Left our cars at the office and made the walk to the office. He brought some of our larger items do to th site for us.
I would def stay here again and try camping in the woods.
