Basecamp Frederick is located on almost 2 acres adjacent to the Frederick Municipal Forest & Watershed on Hamburg Rd. There is a small creek that borders one side of the property, a wooded area in the back, and access to trails across the street. This area of Frederick is prime for outdoor activities such as cycling, hiking, fishing, foraging, and wildlife watching. Both Gambrill State Park and Catoctin Mountain Park are nearby and easy to access for day trips.

You will be parking on a graded, gravel area at the far end of our property (down from the house). It is in a small wooden grove near the creek and next to the Frederick Watershed Forest. Hamburg Rd runs next to the property. It is relatively quiet during the week but gets busy on the weekends. The Frederick Municipal Forest/Watershed is great for outdoor activities all times of year. Gambrill State Park and Catoctin Mountain Park are also nearby. Note: We do have a camera at this side of the property for security purposes.

Basecamp Frederick Cabin is a quaint, charming, semi-rustic retreat located in the Mountaindale Historical District near the Frederick Municipal Forest & Watershed. This is the perfect area for outdoor lovers, couples, small families, and friends looking for peace and a little slice of nature. There is a small creek running along the backside of the property along with access to local multi-use trails and plenty of outdoor space. The cabin has 3 bedrooms (but only 1 is available at this time), 2 baths, full kitchen, dining area, living room, front porch, back deck, and fenced back yard. There is also a detached garage and space to store outdoor equipment. This is a somewhat rustic space. There are interesting and unique features, such as small rooms and low ceilings (7ft height). The house operates on a small well and septic system. NOTE: We live a few miles down the road and are usually available if needed.

Basecamp Frederick Forest

Great spot on our way back from WV! Close access to 70 and downtown Frederick. The spot was super level and had a nice stream to wade in to cool off. I arrived mid afternoon and the spot had basically full shade all evening and the gravel parking space was well-graded. It’s on a road that was fairly busy on a Sunday with hikers and Mt bikers driving to trailheads down the street, but this meant we were in prime location to walk down to the trails from the site. Traffic died off significantly once it got dark and was super peaceful for sleeping. Will definitely be back soon!

Basecamp Frederick Forest

Wonderful Hipcamp site that is easy to find and easy to park at (20 foot truck). Hosts (Alex and Chris) are super communicators and made me feel welcome. After they pointed out some things in the immediate area (including some hiking trails), I was left on my own to enjoy this remarkable spot right on a creek! All night I could hear it. Initially, I was a bit concerned at how close the spot was to the road but after about 9pm (on a Tuesday night), I didn’t hear much of anything beyond the creek babbling. I slept wonderfully well. The plan was to head out at 8am, but the spot is amazing and I elected to stay another hour and half just enjoying my hot beverage and the creek. Cell service wise, AT&T 5G with 4 bars. I was able to hotspot my cell phone and take care of some work. The site was level. If I’m ever within 50 miles of this spot again and need a place to stay, I will be back at this HipCamp site. Thank you to Alex and Chris for doing HipCamp right!
