Harborview Tent

Canvas tent · Sleeps 2
Our Harborview Tent sits on one of the most prominent points on the island, perched on the remnants of a railroad used for transporting materials during the construction of Fort Scammel. From this elevated, secluded location, you can take in the activity of the harbor from your private covered front deck. Your views include multiple 19th century granite coastal fortifications in the harbor, lighthouses, and the historic Portland skyline. This is the first tent site that we built and based on feedback, seems to be one of the favorite tent sites of our guests.

Honeymoon Yurt

Yurt · Sleeps 4
Our Honeymoon Yurt has the finest views and setting on the Island, and in our opinion, the best in all of Portland! This is also the most private of all sites that we offer. Constructed on the South Bastion of Fort Scammel, this site sits on the Southernmost point of the fort. The yurt is situated on a granite foundation constructed in the 1870's which once housed a 49,000 pound cannon. The siting of the yurt affords guests the same panoramic view that a crew operating the cannon would have had over 150 years ago. Views from the open Atlantic to the Portland skyline are yours whether you are inside your furnished yurt or in your private grass "front yard," complete with Adirondack chairs. This is a place not to miss... most returning guests will request this site.

North Star Tent

Canvas tent · Sleeps 3
Our Northstar Tent is a secret staff favorite. The tent includes a private covered deck like our other tents, but it is accessed through the tent and is elevated to look out over the piles of excavated stone that provide a privacy barrier surrounding the tent. If the timing of your stay is right, your back yard will be filled with fresh blackberries and apples will be hanging from the trees overhead. As the Name implies, the back deck of the tent faces to the north, providing views of sunrise, the adjacent islands and Fort Gorges. While the property is not ADA accessible, this tent features a ramp to enter vs. stairs on other sites.

Oceanside Tent

Canvas tent · Sleeps 3
Our Trailside tent is a fantastic place to watch the sunrise from! This site is located alongside the beach path and offers a front porch shielded by vegetation for privacy, but close enough to be social with passers by. This site is central to the island, and adjacent to the groves of old growth Oak and Ironwood trees twisted from years of exposure to the coastal environment. Adjacent to the tent is an island landmark... a massive piece of excavated stone that was too strong to break...the wedge and feather is still stuck in the rock from the effort to move it. This tent site is closest to the bathrooms (but not too close).

Sunrise Yurt

Yurt · Sleeps 4
Our Sunrise Yurt is exceptionally private... so much so you must access your site through an underground tunnel system connecting it to the community spaces central to the fort. Facing East, your view includes the open Atlantic Ocean viewed through Whitehead Passage and breathtaking sunrises over adjacent Peaks Island. The Yurt is situated on a granite foundation constructed in the 1870's which once housed a 49,000 pound cannon. The siting of the yurt affords guests the same panoramic view that a crew operating the cannon would have had over 150 years ago. This site has the largest private grass yard of the island, protected on all sides by vegetated earthen berms and includes a 20,000 lb granite "table", once used to support one of the many cranes on the island.

Sunset Yurt

Yurt · Sleeps 4
Our Sunset Yurt is exceptionally private... so much so you must access your site through an underground tunnel system connecting it to the community spaces central to the fort. Facing West, your view includes the historic Portland skyline, Mt. Washington (on a clear day) and Fort Scammel's counterparts, Fort Preble and Fort Gorges. The sunsets from this site have been described as "epic," and we agree. The Yurt is situated on a granite foundation constructed in the 1870's which once housed a 49,000 pound cannon, and is flanked by 2 additional granite gun foundations. The siting of the yurt affords guests the same panoramic view that a crew operating the cannon would have had over 150 years ago. This site has a large private grass yard, protected on all sides by vegetated earthen berms, and 2 outdoor decks with Adirondack chairs.
