We are very sorry but we will not be opening the island this season due to health concerns.
Cornish Island is a 15 acre private island.
It is only accessible by boat. On the hipcamp map, it is not named. The entrance is up river at the Brunswick Boat Landing. Your fee includes a canoe for every 2 people. All canoes come with paddles and PFDs. Not feeling like paddling; Jim Cornish will transport you to and from the island; for a flat fee. There is a 10 person tent, screen house, 2 fire pits, covered outhouse all set up for your use or you can bring your own tent as well.
Push off of the public boat launch in Brunswick Maine for a short 3/4 of a mile to an island retreat.
On your trip out, see bald eagles and osprey diving for fish, hear the slap of a beaver tail and the chuckling of the squirrels as you set foot on your island. You'll feel like you're miles away from everything but you're still in the middle of Maines beautiful Midcoast region. We have added some new features in 2019; a waterproof screen house is set up at the location. The screen house has a picnic table and a propane grill, bring your tank or we can provide one. There is also a 2 room tent for your use.
Canoe Merrymeeting Bay - the largest Estuary on the east coast.
If you have a water dog, bring the buoy, a tired dog is a happy dog. At the end of a day paddling, relax by the fire and hear the rustling of the leaves overhead. You might even see deer on occasion. If you want to day trip or lunch out, Brunswick features dozens of great restaurants and shops.
The Cornish Family has been occupying the land on Foreside Road for over 150 years.
The original homestead is just up the street and Jim is a caretaker of the land left to him by his grandparents. The land and island
is currently 65+ acres and is home to an abundance of wildlife.
Museums at Bowdoin College and a farmers market on Fridays and you can't leave without checking out Frosty's Donuts - 55 years of donut goodness. 20 minutes to Freeport LLBean area, 15 minutes to Bath, 40 minutes to Boothbay Harbor and 35 minutes back to Portland.
Enjoyed an easy and pretty canoe ride to the island. Tent and fire pit all ready to go making for an easy set up. Close to Portland if you want a quick get away!!!
We had a great time camping on the island. It’s a fantastic set-up — most of what you’ll need is already out there. Beautiful. Definitely want to come back.
This was my second visit to the island and it was even better than the first! We had such a relaxing weekend swimming, canoeing and hanging out by the fire. Very quiet and lots of fun wildlife to see. My dog loves being able to roam the island freely. The owners are responsive and kind. I would definitely come back again!
We're not sure who had more fun, us or the dogs! They had a great time running around and playing in the water. We enjoyed canoeing, fishing and swimming. The camp had a good stock of firewood, water, chairs, pots/pans and other essentials. It was nice not to have to bring a whole camping set up. You can hear the freeway but it's more of white noise and there is a lot of great wildlife to see.
This is our second time getting to experience Cornish Island. The hosts are super friendly and helpful. They couldn’t make it easier to make this a relaxing, fun filled and great experience. The canoe trip adds an extra element of fun and being on an island it is perfect for the dogs to live their best lives. The added equipment is a relief to have everything you’ll need without the stress of figuring how to pack all the big items.
We had an amazing time camping on Cornish Island. We have gone two summers in a row, and each time it's been so beautiful and comfortable.
