Carter's Cross Country Ski Center and Shop has been a family-owned business since 1984. The land on which the trails have been built on has been in the Carter family since the late 1700's. The first Carter who came to Bethel was the first doctor in the area that helped Mollyocket, a Native American medicine woman. All the different generations that came along after were either farmers or loggers or both. Carter's XC Ski Center is located on the banks of the Big Androscoggin River. Our private established skiing/walking trails meander through the Maine woods all the way up to Farwell Mountain, overlooking Sunday River Ski, the Presidential and Mahoosuc Mountain Ranges and Mt. Washington. Nearby is Middle Intervale Farm, owned by John Carter, who produces his own vegetables and meat. He has a small, self-serve farm stand right on Intervale Road, next to Carter's. Guests can enjoy the property's views and amenities, such as hiking, kayaking, canoeing, skiing, snowshoeing, biking, bird watching, and relaxing. Enjoy the peacefulness and tranquility in one of our three cabins in the Maine woods.

Stonewall Cabin

Cabin · Sleeps 6
Stonewall cabin is an off grid cabin on wooded cross country ski trails with nearby  views of The Presidential Mountain Range and Sunday River in western Maine. Sunsets!  You will need to bring your own sleeping bag/linens (2 full size beds) and head-lamp.  In the summer you can drive-in, winter access by skis or snowshoes only; trek is under 1 km from parking and we rent skis or snowshoes if needed. Winter heat is by wood stove, wood is provided.  Cabin has propane lights and cooking range.  Kitchen items provided. No running water but we supply jugs of water. Our newest cabin, designed as a tiny house with an open concept and 2 lofts. Currently it has 2 double beds and 1 twin daybed downstairs and a sitting area with a table and benches, a kitchen area and a woodstove. The kitchen area has pots, pans, dishes and utensils. There is a french press. There are dishcloths and basins in sinks for doing dishes. If you want dishes to be simpler, please bring your own paper plates. There are lots of magazines, some books, games, and drawing materials. There are gas lights too. We also provide matches, candles and battery-operated lanterns. It is helpful to bring a headlamp or other lanterns for more light if you wish. Please bring your own linens or sleeping bags and pillowcases. We provide fitted sheets and there are a few throw blankets around. We also provide kindling, fire starter material, matches, and firewood. Please keep the woodbox full and remember to stock the stove before bed, but most likely you’ll have to throw some more logs in the stove early in the morning, or get up during the night. This is a winter adventure after all! You must snowshoe or ski to the cabins in the winter, but no worries, it is a short 1o minute trip in and we rent both skis or snowshoes for your convenience. You should always bring both snowshoes or xc skis if you have them. Otherwise we have lots of rentals. Check out our home page for current trail conditions before arriving. The cabins don’t have running water, but we provide potable water for cooking and cleaning. You can drink it too, but should probably bring extra. Since this is a rustic cabin, there is only an outhouse. We provide toilet paper and hand sanitizer, but you may want to bring wipes too. The cabins are located on our trails, which means the cabin rental includes trail passes to our ski center and access to the trails during the off-season. During the winter season the trails are great for xc skiing, snowshoeing, and fat tire biking. During the other months our trails are excellent for trail biking, trail running, hiking, and walking and the Androscoggin River is great for swimming, canoeing, and kayaking. Cabin · Sleeps 6
Beautiful views of Sunday River and Carter Moriahs from the windows of this 2 story cabin. Lots of open common space on the first floor, great for hanging out with family or friends. This cabin has an open concept upstairs with 4 double beds. Loocated directly on our xc ski trail, folks can walk, hike, ski or snowshoe right out the front door! Named after our grandmother, Fern Lyndell Carter, Camp Fern was built by my father, Dave Carter, in 2001. It is a lovely, 2-story cabin with a lot of character and coziness. Currently it has 2 double beds and 1 double bunk bed upstairs, and a sitting area with a few comfy chairs. Downstairs consists of an open-concept kitchen/dining room area with a woodstove, an antique wood cookstove (just for show), a gas cook stove, kitchen area with pots, pans, dishes and utensils. There is a pour over coffee maker and a stove-top percolator. There are dishcloths and basins for doing dishes. If you want dishes to be simpler, please bring your own paper plates. Also in the dining room there’s bench seating and chairs around a table. There are lots of magazines, some books, games, and drawing materials. There are gas lights too. We also provide matches, candles and battery-operated lanterns. It is helpful to bring a headlamp or other lanterns for more light if you wish. It is very private, and you can drive to it in the summer and fall.  Late fall and early December, you may have to ski in or hike in on foot or snowshoes. This one room cabin was once a meeting house on top a hill in North Paris. It is quaint and cozy. Currently it has 2 double beds and 1 double bunk bed.
