This was my first experience with Hipcamp. It was super easy. I followed a winding road with pretty views, pulled in, parked and was good to go. There was a friendly cat and dog by the office to greet me! The bathroom with shower was quite near. I enjoyed seeing the stars so clearly, too. I was even offered hot coffee in the morning! I think that was because it got down to 32 degree that night. Overall it was an easy and pleasant experience.

This is a special place. It ain't fancy and when it is full for a huge music festival, you may need to plan your showers or fill the fresh tank and use your pump. But that is not the regular situation. There is a lot of space to roam, hike, bike and since it is on the river you can do river things. Rarely, the river gets high enough here to make camping iffy, but if you plan around that and have a backup plan, it is a great value and the music focus makes it more than worth a try. The road back to the property is mostly paved but has some gravel sections and frequently has spots that wash out or need repair but the road crews are usually on top of that, just be prepared for a slow 5 miles or so if you care about your rig.

We arrived after dark after Google maps to us the wrong way down a logging road that doesn't access the campground at all. Putting in the address instead of launching directions from the app will get you there easily, though. The sites were all nice and easy to find, even in the dark.

We didn't get to visit the store or go down to the river because we had some much to do in Richmond. We absolutely loved the peace and quiet at the campground. It was the perfect spot, clean, ever just as advertised!!!! Nice hot shower and clean bathroom!!! We definitely want to go back!!!!!!

We rented the lot #4 for Rock Rebellion Festival. We ran out of water but thanks to the gentleman that runs the park, he found the problem ASAP and had us back up and running water fast. Very beautiful place and we would stay there again. Lots to do and just relax if you wanted to also.

I was there for a music festival: Rock Rebellion. The area is beautiful and well kept. The campground is far enough away from the stage area that is not distracting if you need time to relax at your site. This is my 2nd time staying and I'll go back.

We were traveling to Tennessee and needed a place to stop and camp. Very accommodating and easy to setup and sleep. Seems like there is so much more to do there and can’t wait to plan a trip to go back.

Level sites along the RockCastle River. We were just over night so was a nice hop off of I75... we missed the drive on the left so watch for the mailbox and be ready to turn left (Took a 10 point turn once we missed it. Don (Jessica's Dad) had it well maintained and greeted us immediately. The shade trees are just getting started so afternoon was sunny but plenty of shade closer to the river in the Morning.

Rockcastle Riverside Primitive Camp
We loved camping here! We are van campers and we had a perfect little shady spot, that kept us cool! We also loved that they had a stage set with a drum kit that you could play, we are both learning to play the drums so we took this as a sign! It was so beautiful down by the river collecting rocks and enjoying a slower pace of life for a bit! Thank you so much!

Didn’t get the spot I paid for. The weather wasn’t their fault but you can fish in wet weather if you can get to the water. Minus the spot that I reserved online, the entire river bank was completely overgrown. When we discussed this, they said that the people who had that spot had been there for a month and a half. I’m sure that it could’ve been made unavailable. They were accommodating as far as getting a different one, but that’s not the point I didn’t wanna be there if it wasn’t at that site.
The bathroom was okay but not comfortable leaving my boy alone up there bc of the smell.
I did not feel comfortable with my son at the site because someone tampered with our camp site while we were gone more than once. I’ve been in the woods all my life, and I know the difference. You can’t always prove it, but I know.
I’ve messaged several times with 0 response….before and after the trip.
It could be a cool spot but I will never be back out there. It’s a family thing to me, not a place to party.

There wasn’t any specific issues. The owners were very nice and accommodating. I think I just didn’t realize what kind of venue it was when I booked it. Lucky for us they didn’t have any festivals booked that weekend but it’s not somewhere I would book again knowing that’s the type of crowd they typically serve.

The site was clean, tidy and peaceful despite the large numbers of off road vehicles, in fairness they were only noisy leaving in the morning and returning in the evening. We thought we would be able to hike in the woods surrounding the camp but there were no paths and an incredibly muddy riverside, there were also no trash bins in evidence.

Friendly people, level site, cut firewood for everyone (downed trees from storms this past winter). Power and water hookups worked as expected. All sites are out in the open so it will be warm during the summer, but it is only 50 yards to the river.

Well it was bad timing for us since the grounds were recently flooded. We decided to cut our losses and left since it didn't seem to have WIFI or tv reception or cell service. The drive in was not nice either but nothing we couldn't handle but we thought if we left early I wasn't comfortable driving the roads in the dark with our motorhome. My wife found the Hipcamp site which is probably not geared for our style of camping.

I booked a primitive campsite but there was a private graduation party going on and I was unable to stay there and had to stay in an RV site. Besides that it was a nice area and hosts were nice

Quiet and peaceful sitting next to the river in our tent. We enjoyed a warm fire while relaxing. Price was fair and owner was friendly. We recently stayed at another camp not far away and there were SxS and 4 wheelers riding around all night making in hard to sleep. At Rockcastle we had no issues and were able to relax!

I love this place! We come every year for Moonshiner's Ball, and couldn't ask for a better experience. You can go primitive with either tent or RV, or use the RV hookups. The staff is friendly and helpful, there is a well-stocked general store for things you might have forgotten, and the facilities are clean. It's a great venue for getting back to nature, just of I-75.

This was the perfect spot for all campers-we had some with a camper, some tent camping and truck camping! The river was beautiful and everything was well maintained. The trails nearby were good for all level of hikers and absolutely gorgeous! We met several lovely kind people as well in our adventure. Definitely planning on coming back.
