Lake Shelby Park and Campground stands out as a unique destination due to its rich history and diverse camping options, nestled within the city limits of Shelbyville, Kentucky. This scenic campground features 10 RV sites, with 5 offering full hookups that include sewer access, while the other 5 provide electric and water connections only. All RV sites are equipped with a maximum service of 50 amps, ensuring a comfortable stay for visitors. Additionally, there are 6 primitive tent sites available for reservation online, perfect for those seeking a more rustic experience without water or electric access. Established in 1949, Lake Shelby was created by flooding a low-lying field area after the construction of a dam, rather than being excavated. Initially serving as a water reservoir for Kentucky Utilities and a private fish and game club, the lake transitioned to a public resource in the early 1970s when the Shelbyville Shelby County Park and Recreation Board took over its management. Today, the park is operated by the City of Shelbyville in collaboration with the Shelbyville/Shelby County Parks and Recreation and the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife. Visitors to Lake Shelby Park can enjoy a variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking, and picnicking, all set against the backdrop of the lake
