This is the first accommodation I have ever booked that I have been unable to stay in due to conditions at the site. The host was very responsive when we were having difficulty finding the site. However, upon arrival we noticed a very strong gas smell that was not dissipating with the considerable wind, and was strong enough that we very quickly started to feel unwell. Additionally, there was trash littered around the site, including empty beer cans and boxes with unfinished cans. After being unable to find a source for the smell at the site, we messaged the host and were told that it was due to a crude oil pump on a nearby lot and there was nothing to be done. Unfortunately, at this point it was clear that we would not be able to stay at the site due to the effects of the fumes and we had to find alternative accommodations at the last minute.

We enjoyed our stay at this site. There is plenty of room for camping and the views are outstanding. Great for star gazing and sunrises. It's about 30 minutes from many hiking trails and the little town of Slade.

Top Shelf camping
23 ft pop-up camper ·
We had a great time at the Top Shelf site. We took our truck camper and was able to fit with no issue. Beautiful views however The Bar is the site to be at for sure. We liked that their was a portable toilet available but would have been more comfortable with it if it was more centralized instead we felt like we were walking into the other campsites area to use the bathroom. We will be returning for sure!

We love this spot. We had a great camping weekend with multiple families. The shelter and counter space are such a luxury for cooking and keeping everything dry. Stunning views!

We’d recommend “the bar” site!
18 ft pop-up camper ·
We stayed at “the bar” in February and absolutely loved it so we decided to book it again to see the fall colors. We were a little bummed out when we learned the campsite had been split into two separate sites (“the bar” and “the shelf”) as we loved the privacy and letting our dogs be off leash. When I reached out to the land owners about this they recommended renting both sites and gave us a code to lower the price of “the shelf” booking. We ended up booking both sites so we could still keep the campsite private. It was definitely more money than we’d wanted to spend but we still had a nice time and enjoyed the views from “the bar’s” campsite. We were happy to see that the doors and some of the blockades that were up when we visited in February were removed which made it much easier to park our camper, we could just pull through rather than having to back in. NOTE: On your last 10-15 minutes of your drive getting to the campsite’s driveway, please watch out for dogs when you are driving through the winding residential areas! We had several dogs run at our vehicle and we were terrified we might hit them so just drive super slow through those areas and keep an eye out! All in all “the bar” is a gorgeous campsite and we had lots of fun here. “The shelf” is definitely a lot more trees that block the views so just keep that in mind when booking the shelf rather than the bar.
