Spanning 128 acres, this park was acquired by the US Army Corps of Engineers in November 1974 as part of the Saylorville Lake Project. Originally known as Camp Laurie, a state Salvation Army Camp, it has since been managed by the Boone County Conservation Board under a 25-year lease from the USACE since September 1976. The park's name pays homage to its proximity to the original site of Swede Point, Iowa, which was founded in 1846 by early Swedish settlers. With its blend of natural beauty and recreational opportunities, this park is a perfect spot for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life while enjoying the great outdoors.
