Green Grass Farms was officially started in January of 2016.  After being on active duty for years and having a disabled child, we decided we wanted to simplify and slow down our way of life.  In November of 2014 our disabled son was put on a 100% "Real Foods Diet" and that played a huge part in motivating us to look more into what that really meant.  What was the difference between farm raised and store bought organic food? What was the real benefit of not using hormones or antibiotics or pesticides?  Which is better, grain finished or grass finished meat?  So we bought the farm and started Green Grass Farms! Learn more about this land: The property is primitive with treed area and lots of grass. With sustainable livestock farming and ranging. We have a mix of chicken, pigs, and cattle on the farm. You would be staying in the pasture or in a wooded area. You can be next to the animals or next to our farm store near our corn field. There's lots of views of windmills and pastures/farmland. Happy to give farm tours outside of my working hours.

      It was safe and relaxing. The hogs are cute and funny (also just a little smelly but honestly we got used to it and couldn’t even tell after about an hour - just mentioned if it’s something someone may be sensitive to this might not be your spot). We were the only campers there. Overall, I felt comfortable and would stay again. Lots of mulberry trees around the camp spot too!

      The hosts, as well as the animals, were very friendly. What’s more, the grass was long and thick which made for an unbelievably comfortable night.

      Matt was great and delivered precision directions that made packing in and out of his space simple, even after hours in the dark. Matt's property is a gem, with plenty of open space, bright stars overhead and the fantastic chorus of insects that can only be so loud while far away from the city. Highly recommend, will come back again.

      The host was super chill and helpful getting us directed to the site. The spot was INCREDIBLY serene and beautiful. It was wonderfully meditative to fall asleep to fireflies, signing frogs and summer bug songs. There were even a few distant howls that added to the charm of sleeping outdoors.

      Matt gave us great directions for our late arrival. Beautiful campsite with plenty of stars. Was greeted by his friendly dogs in the morning and got to meet Matt on the way out, who was very friendly. Wonderful stay!

      Quiet pond spot

      We had a nice secluded spot by Matt’s pond, so peaceful! Hiked around Indian Cave state park in NE, and Viking Lake there in Iowa. Said hi to his pigs, Will be staying there again if we go back to the area!

      A quaint little site! We arrived late the night we booked and Matt was very helpful and flexible for us, though you may have an easier time finding the site in the daylight when Matt can greet you. There are plenty of farm animals in addition to a few dogs that were around in the morning!
