Best in Iowa: Finalist
Named one of the best Hipcamps to visit in 2023.
Happy to announce we’ve won 2nd best property to visit in Iowa! We hope to keep striving and adding more amenities as we go! Thank you to our wonderful guests and hello to future guests! 👋🏽 Built in 1860 by its first caretaker botanist, this homestead was propagated over its many years of life and is busting at the seams with medicinal and edible herbs. We now run a flower farm and vegetable gardens on our homestead. If you’d like to learn about herbs or gardening/ homesteading, we love sharing our knowledge. If you’d just like some farm fresh eggs for breakfast and enjoy your time alone amongst the songbirds, that's just fine too :) The property is built into the stone hillside allowing for breathtaking views but also stairs to get to the campsites. Please wear comfortable shoes (not flip flops 😉). If you have mobility issues property access will be difficult. Please no children under 5. !CLASSES! We run our small school/business: HOMESTEAD and HAMMER from the property and are bringing classes to YOU! Look in the "EXTRAS" for classes you can partake in on your visit OR for more information on what's included on class weekends check out our website below! Classes include, forAging wild edibles, mushroom identification, homesteading skills, soap making, forging metals and many more! Bunkie
The property is beautiful and Jessica is very friendly. It was very peaceful and quiet. The only draw back could be if you have a problem with stairs you have to go down two sets of stone step to use the potty. I was fine as long as I had a light at night. You are up on a hill surrounded by nature where you can see the town. Bellevue is a such a pretty town with great views, restaurants and within driving distance of so many other great locations. Maquoketa Caves State Park, Galena, Dubuque and Field of Dreams.

Had a great stay on Jessica's land! Beautiful views and loved getting to tour the property to learn about the various plant species/see their homestead. Would absolutely camp here again.

Bunkie
Delightful!
The homestead is such a unique place in the driftless area. The house is built on the side of a bluff. Everywhere you look there are trees, and plants of every kind imaginable and it feels very lush, and so peaceful. The bunkie is a sweet and comfortable escape, and with a wall of windows on one side, you're surrounded by the outdoors. Jessica is a lovely host and I loved meeting her human and furry family, including Poppy, her pet skunk. The one thing I would suggest is make sure you have trail or hiking shoes. The property is very steep with lots of uneven surfaces. But, that's also part of the charm. Enjoy the homestead!

Beautiful Campsite
Jessica was so welcoming and the land was beautiful! Jessica was knowledgeable about everything on their property and we learned a lot about the different plants, herbs, and animals on the property. Be sure to bring money to shop from their store too! Jessica was nice enough even to bring us out some of her tea to try! Highly recommend camping here and will definitely return in the future!! :)

The Bunkie is a Wonderful Retreat
We loved staying in the bunkie! It was a cozy space with the most comfortable bed and we loved all the windows. Waking up to the sun (or rain, in our case) was truly amazing. Jessica made our trip special in small, magical moments like an introduction to the chicks, meeting her sweet pets, and offering tea in the evening. Bellevue was a sweet town and close enough for us to travel to Maquoketa Caves and Dubuque all in one weekend!
