My 2nd time staying here as a camper, and this spot is more lovely than I remember! There is a rustic charm about this place that is unique to the Indiana small country town vibe. I was lucky to have The Open Field all to myself, it is very refreshing and relaxing to camp out here!
This time I parked my minivan camper beneath the two giant trees at the back of Loretta's property, a little ways behind the fire pit. It provided full shade until sunset, which is a spectacular view from The Open Field to watch the sun meet the horizon. This spot is spacious and feels private, as it sits at the intersection of the neighboring backyards as well. It was sweet to see fireflies glowing in the distant grassy field. Because of the way the trees tower over, I was able to sleep in without being stirred by the sunrise!
Loretta also has chickens that stay in the barn coop. There is a rooster who crows occasionally, but with the distance from where I was camped out, it became part of nature's ambient noise. If you're lucky, you'll spot some deer. It's definitely an animal-lovers paradise out here!
It was so fun to see Loretta's dog Chiwee again, and for my pup to reunite with her neighbor Erica's dogs Ellie, Teddy, and Finley. We met the neighbor's cat Misty, too! Everyone - humans and animals - are super friendly and spark so much joy.
Loretta goes above and beyond as a Hipcamp host. She is very gracious with sharing amenities. I can't wait to visit again some day! :)

The Open Field
This is a great little corner of the town! Loretta was an amazing and accommodating host, and she made me feel so welcome. I loved watching the sunset over the field across the way, truly an amazing view.

This place was perfect to camp out & reset! Loretta is a super accommodating host, and her yard is charming & well taken care of. The neighborhood community is very warm and friendly. I was greeted by the 3 sweet small pups who live next door when I pulled in. I met Loretta's little dog Chiwee once I settled in. The dogs are all best friends. There's also cats and chickens, it was lovely to see all the animals coexisting!
I'm a solo woman camper, and I felt super safe and looked after while here. My own little dog got along surprisingly well with their pups. Somehow, they taught my dog to not chase the chickens (they were a good influence on my dog, lol.) The vibe here feels very mellow and trusting. It was a refreshing change after being in the city, where the vibe is more on edge.
I had the yard all to myself, and it was dazzling to watch the sunset over the field in the evenings. I setup my camp under the big tree towards the back of the property, and it kept cool and shady until the afternoon!
The site looks toward the road, although not busy, the cars that do go by can be fast & noisy at times. Not a dealbreaker, but something to be mindful of, especially if you have dogs still working on recall!
The town is less than 10 minutes away with all the big grocery stores and fast food chains. Definitely a convenient place to stop by, rest, or even get the hang of solo camping like I did!
