Ken is SUCH a great host! He gave us a tour of his gorgeous property when we arrived and then provided fantastic recommendations for the area. As for the site itself--it's exactly what we were looking for! There's truly nothing better than being lulled to sleep by the sound of moving water and we had the magical experience of an otter sighting while sitting by the campfire. The site felt private and secluded while having the benefit of only being a 5 minute walk from our parking spot. Highly recommended!

I loved tent camping at Buck Creek Sanctuary! Ken is amazing and so knowledgeable of the nature in his care. We tried sassafras tea Ken made from trees on the property and took an amazing immersion walk with him through the forest. There are SO many paths to explore on his property. It’s absolutely perfect for a little getaway to connect with nature. Close to the mundane world but not too close.

The restroom was 500 feet away, and it was a compost toilet, the creek was almost a half a mile away, the campsite was great,ken was nice enough to loan us a couple of chairs. Just to much walking for me.

A gorgeous, peace-filled spot, directly off a main road, easy to navigate to, and close to Louisville! There are many unique camping spots; some near the branch, some in the forest and closer to the main structure, each all offering a different experience and way to connect deeply with the land. Ken is very knowledgeable about the various flora growing around the property, and kind in showing you around and in ensuring you are set up with what you need at your site. It's clear that he cares deeply about the land and in ensuring that others have a restful stay while there. The peace and ease is just palatable!

Well secluded area in the forest with some trails to walk the area. A different camping site is even next to a river! The host, Ken, was very accommodating and is fun to talk with. Fire is permitted in already made fire pits so no personal fires but one is very close by. I highly recommend this camping site. I WILL be going back.

Magical Campsite!

Ken was extremely hospitable and our campsite by the creek was amazing. I was working on a campfire dinner after dark and noticed twinkling blue-green glowing lights on the ground along the path leading to and within the campsite. A quick google search told me they were firefly larvae and it happens in the fall when conditions are just right. Most amazing thing I have ever seen. So magical. Thank you, Ken, for sharing with us.

The host was very responsive in replying to my phone calls and checked to make sure I was settled after arrival. This location was quite remote so make sure to arrive before dark, otherwise it might be difficult to find. I only was there to spend the night before continuing on, but it appeared to be a lovely wooded property with trails for walking.

We had a great stay. Ken was super welcoming and the camp site was beautiful. We several owls and an otter within the first 30 minutes. It is a bit of a walk to the camp site from where you park, but Ken provided a wheelbarrow to help get stuff down to the site. As long as you are prepared for the 3-5 minute walk to the camp site, it is absolutely worth the trip.

The perfect campsite

The Besver Bend campsite was perfect. It is a secluded back- country site right on the creek. Birds and wildlife are everywhere- I even saw a young fox! The creek is beautiful and shallow enough to wade in. So peaceful snd relaxing. There are also lots of trails to hike right there at th sanctuary. It was glorious to wale up to birdsong with the sun filtering through the trees. I will definitely be back!

Overall, we would camp at this location again. It was private, peaceful and the type of environment we were looking for. There were decent walking paths on the premises too. Ken and his wife were nice hosts. A couple things to keep in mind before booking: 1 You will have to walk to the campsite from where parking is located. This will require walking up and down a small hill on the in and out. We are in good shape but people with mobility issues should take note. I'd say pack on the lighter side. Ken was nice to give us a wheel barrow for moving supplies. 2 We saw quite a few tics and were constantly on guard, keep them off us - obviously not uncommon in this type of environment. 3. My biggest suggestion is additional warnings in the campsite description + onsite about this being a flood zone. We were ready for rain Sunday morning but not prepared for the campsite to become part of the creek. It started raining at 7am and by 10am we were knee deep (I am 6'3") in water packing gear out (heavy rain 7am - 9amish then light rain until 10am). The plan was to wait out the rain but this was a big mistake. I just want people to understand this in advance of booking. All things considered we were lucky due to packing a lot of supplies out the night before. This situation would have been far worse had we not done so. Again, I would recommend the campsite for mostly dry conditions. Happy camping to all

The tipi was open at the bottom with about 10 inches at the bottom exposed to the environment (bug and small critters could get in and out with no issue). The interior also had a lot of mildew, and some very old furniture and unused firewood inside. It seemed that my son and I were the first to utilize the tipi in years.

Great place to connect and recharge

Beaver Bend campsite is beautiful and secluded. The creek is so much fun to wade and walk in. The kids had a blast. Ken and Kathy are amazingly gracious and welcoming hosts. The woods and trails are also very nice.

The drive out to this location was beautiful, and the gravel drive back to the camp site was easy to get to and beautifully wooded. Ken, the host was helpful in meeting us and showing us around and telling us more about Buck Creek Sanctuary. There is a nice trail down to a beautiful creek which was really low (and cold!) when we came but we had a great time wading in it with our toddler. It’s worth noting that the composting toilet has narrow rails which makes sitting on it a bit tricky for those with larger hips! We saw about a dozen bird species, a little opossum that visited us each night, and deer. At night we heard owls, coyotes, and foxes. I definitely plan on returning for some of the sanctuary events!

Great place to stay

The tipi is beautiful and so is the land it is sitting on. Ken is a great host! If you don't mind primative camping I would recommend staying here.

This was an excellent, quiet and peaceful location. The host met us an ensured we were orientated to the site when we arrived. The campsite is basic, yet all we needed for a rustic stop on our way through southern Indiana.

A Peaceful Bit of Nature

I set up a hammock for a few days on this property and it was really nice. The host and I didn't have a chance to meet, but he gave clear directions about where to camp. The campsite was well maintained with a firepit. There were mowed trails to explore the farm, but it was so hot and I was so busy that I didn't get a chance to check things out. I will be back!

We loved camping at the Sanctuary! It was the most private spot I have ever camped. We saw a Blue Heron, a family of otters, and spent the day catching crawfish and laying in the sun. I highly recommend this spot for someone who wants to "get away" without going too far away!

A great spot with plenty of room to set-up and enjoy nature. This is the second time we've stayed here. We loved walking down to the creek and dipping our toes in on a hot day. The gravel spot by the barn was great for van camping and opens out onto mowed paths that wind through the property. Great hosts, thanks!
