This was my first stop, first campsite (ever)... and it was fantastic! Very off the beaten path... beautiful lake - lots of great spots to camp. Mostly flat. You can be in the open or under the trees. Nice walks - especially if you have puppers. Quite a few campers but everyone was respectful, quiet, and friendly. Felt very safe... My first car camping experience was fantastic, and the sunset over the lake was stunning!

Great place to put up a tent or an RV but quite a ways out of the way. Just the drive from the main road is about a mile on an unpaved road. The actual camping site is nice that it is covered with green grass and enough trees to be under and from the sun. After the fact but come to find out that it does have a rest room, to which we really needed, so we ended up packing up and left without spending a night. The bathroom is quite far from the camping area and will probably have to drive there or do a long walk. The camping site is next to a big pond and away from the busling of city life.

This quiet site was perfect for our family trip. We loved the sunsets on the lake and hanging out by the fire. Highly recommend!

Tall Tree Lake worked perfectly as a base camp for our weekend exploring the local state parks. Aside from two other RVs, who we only saw one night, we had the place to ourselves. We never saw or spoke to the host, but that could have been because we left early each morning, and stayed gone until evening. We did leave a message at the number provided when we first arrived & never received a call back, but prior to booking, my questions were answered via the app almost immediately. We were unsure if there were any requirements on how & where to park, but with no call back we just did what worked. For those curious, there was potable water as well as a dump station available on site near the barn, neither of which (I don't believe) were shown on the Hipcamp listing. There are also bathrooms and showers in the barn, that while usable, made me glad we had our own in our motorhome. The access road leading to the sites was packed gravel, and we had no issues in our Class C. I was glad, however, that we didn't have the sites further back, as like many of the local access roads in the area, it has suffered a bit of washout lately and might have made for an interesting ride. All told, if we plan a trip to the area in the future, we are likely to look this place up. Once again, its central location and private setting made for a perfect base camp for our weekend getaway.

I was there for just a quick one night stop over driving from Chicago to Atlanta and it was definitely a relaxing night catching a sunset and listening to the bull frogs at night.

Beautiful lake with wide open camp sites. There was a wedding present the weekend we camped- I don't blame them. It's a perfect venue! The space was big enough that we didn't feel like we were intruding, and the wedding didn't bother us either.
The bathrooms were clean and spacious, with showers available too.

Overall it was a nice site, very clean, and the sites themselves were pretty flat. Was able to settle in under the pines. Came for a late season peddle and paddle trip. Nov 8-9 so my experience could easily differ from the warmer seasons. Had the campsite pretty much to myself. There were small fire rings for campfires. No porta potty on site that I saw (again,late on the year), but was told the bathroom in the barn was available, which although a bit of a drive from the camp, but did have plumbing, so that's a good give and take. It was heavily overcast and rainy during my stay but it seems like there's be some good stargazing here as well over the lake
If I'm ever back in that area I'd be sure to book again

We had such an amazing trip to Tall Tree Lake to view the eclipse! We camped in the wooded area near the lake, which felt so nice and tucked away. The campground itself was immaculate, you can tell the land is really cared for. There were clean portable toilets available the whole trip in close proximity to where we camped. This is a huge property with a wooded area, open fields, and an awesome lake - you can’t go wrong with any spot on the property. We were able to pitch a tent wherever we wanted, which was nice! The field is awesome for viewing stars at night. This property is located in close proximity to anywhere you’d want to visit in Shawnee National Forest, and is close to some grocery stores and gas stations, but is located further back on a country road, so feels nice and secluded!
Other than the property, I want to shout out the amazing hosts Phil, Wade, and their entire family! They are such lovely people and were extremely helpful our entire stay. Their hospitality went above and beyond & really made this stay special!
I can’t wait to go back to Tall Tree Lake!

This was an awesome place to view the eclipse.
My site was down in the "pine forest" and I woke to a world where the fog blanketed everything in a world of white. It was really neat.
Wade and his family are awesome and really made a welcoming place.
This location is really quiet, and the skies are dark at night.
I definitely would come here again!!!

This was an awesome spot for our eclipse camping weekend. Close to some great state parks for hiking. Beautiful lake and facilities. Super nice owners. Very helpful and other campers were courteous. Would definitely stay again and recommend.

This is a beautiful lake property with various campsites. We had so much fun here for the 2024 sar eclipse. We met a lot of nice and interesting people. Especially enjoyed the kid's baked goods and coffee stand. Loved, loved, the howling at the coyotes. So fun! The port-a-potties weren't even that bad. (For a while anyway.) Was fairly easy to get to, and quiet. Even though fairly close to the interstate.

What a beautiful and peaceful location. Highly recommend. Keep in mind to bring in essentials as there is not a store on the location. We brought our own table which if you want one you will need to bring as all. The hosts could not have been nicer. Thank you!

We had a lovely view of the lake from campsite no. 1. Wade was available for questions and we enjoyed hearing the history of the campground. We will definitely bring our kayaks next time!

We camped for the long Eclipse Weekend (Friday to Tuesday). There is a cluster of electric sites and we were placed at #6 which was a nice size space with some trees and a view to the lake. We were fortunate to have a large fire ring and picnic table. Wade maintained trashcans and porta potties for the event. Firewood bundles were available for purchase; nice size and good dry wood for $10. Potable water and a dump site were nice surprises. It's a beautiful area and we went to several areas within an hour of camp to hike.
