Ruffit Park stands out as a unique campground that offers families a chance to escape the chaos of daily life and reconnect with nature. Established in 1965 by Chuck and Maxine Gaumer, this beloved destination was designed for children to embrace the outdoors, play freely, and enjoy the simple pleasures of life. Chuck and Maxine believed that true fun didn’t require modern luxuries; instead, it could be found in the joy of “ruffin’ it.” Even after Chuck's passing, Maxine, affectionately known as the Candy Lady, continued to run the campground alongside her four sons, creating a welcoming atmosphere for families to bond and create lasting memories. As we look to the future in 2022, my husband and I are committed to revitalizing Ruffit Park to provide the same cherished escape that my great aunt Maxine offered for so many years. Our vision is to create a space where parents can unwind and socialize while their children engage in outdoor play, free from the distractions of electronics. We have exciting plans in store, including the opening of a general store, an arcade room, and the eventual reopening of the pool. We are also eager to revisit past events that have made Ruffit Park a special place for campers. While it may take time
