We had an amazing time at this campsite! The site was well-maintained, and the morning rain didn’t put a damper on our fun. The host was kind, helping us with our luggage, which made settling in so easy. They also sent a friendly reminder about checkout, which we really appreciated. We left the site clean and tidy and can’t wait to return. Highly recommend this spot for a relaxing camping getaway!

This is a great spot if you don't mind a quick hike with your gear to get there.
On the Somonauk creek, plenty of canopy to keep the sun off and enough nature around to feel like you have privacy. Only downside is the roosters going off at the crack of dawn.

A very nice experience, and with very kind owners. The exhausting part is the walk, but afterwards it is wonderful to hear the crows scream and be at their party. It is very nice.

Creek Campsite - Rancho Comienzo
We had a wonderful time, this site is the perfect mix of convenience and seclusion. We loved being able to watch the horses and the proximity to the creek was awesome. Road and local bar noise was present, but not overwhelming. Mike and Taylor were so gracious and accommodating!

The campsite was worth the walk. Beautiful. We picked a very hot day to go and after the first trip out with our gear I was dying when I got back to the car. Mike saw this and offered to give me a hand using his 4x4. Saved me big time and even refused cash when I offered. We went for a dip in the river. Caught some good size catfish and cooked under the stars. Would recommend to anyone just make sure you bring a good wagon!!

Our group stayed at the second site along the river. Beautiful views downstream as well as a great atmosphere secluded from the surrounding properties. The river is swimmable but bring rock shoes and the current is rather strong fyi. Bugs were much more mild than anticipated (early August).
Mike and Taylor were the perfect hosts. Very welcoming and accommodating. Would definitely go back.

It was great camping on Mike’s land. We stayed at the creek side site and it was such a lovely space. My girlfriend and I both thought it was very peaceful and private, which is our top two must haves when we go camping! Will certainly be back!

This property is absolutely gorgeous. It's like something you'd see on a postcard. Mike and Taylor were super friendly and helpful. The site is totally private and secluded. It's also a MASSIVE site. It's a perfect spot for a romantic getaway or a big gathering. The creek is fun to wade in. The sight is also relatively quite as far as traffic noises and farming. There was also a surprising lack of bugs.
If you go here I would recommend a few things. Water shoes would have been nice. The creek is pretty silly, which allows the rocks to catch you off guard. A hammock would have been great to hang from a few of the trees in the middle of the property. And lastly, some sort of game. This is a huge site just waiting to have a Bags tournament played on it.
I can't recommend this place enough. It's really something special.

Creek Campsite - Rancho Comienzo
What a hidden gem! The property and landscape is straight out of a Norman Rockwell painting. This was my 2nd time visiting. The first was with long-time friends next to a spot along Fox River. This time I brought three of my kids (14 yr old daughter and twin 11 yr old boys). We camped at a secluded spot next to the Somonauk creek. It is very private and the kids played/fished in the creek for hours. I had luck catching a monster Cat (chicken liver on a weighted treble) It is a short hike to the campsite so I’d highly recommend bringing a wagon.
I’d also recommend bringing ear plugs if you are a light sleeper since you can hear some traffic from the road, mostly in the morning.
If your kids needs a bit of a break from camplife, the “Sugar Grove Family Fun Center” is only a 20-30 minute drive. Mini Golf, Go-Karts, and Bumper Boats.
Hosts are excellent as always. Responsive and also leave you in peace.

Fox River Landing - Rancho Comienzo
My 11 year old son and I enjoyed a one-nighter at the Fox River Landing site at Rancho Comienzo. Very clean site, right on the Fox River. Firewood was delivered to the site by Mike on an ATV and he did offer to bring down any heavy items we didn’t want to carry on our walk from the parking area to the site. Very nice and welcoming to their beautiful property. Beautiful starry sky in the evening. Thank you, Taylor and Mike!

Fox River Landing - Rancho Comienzo
Very peaceful! Had a great weekend here after a bit of a hike through knee/waist high grass. Pack lightly as the .5 mile trek to your car is no joke if you’re a heavy packer like I am. Caught a couple of catfish, the river is a bit weedy but still very enjoyable with the occasional train going by off in the distance.

Beautiful spot, creek has a lot of fish. Not a ton of trees for hammocks but there are two decent setup points. The site has tons of room for tents.

Rancho Del Comienzo was a lovely spot. Stayed at the Fox River site and it was far removed from all activity. Plenty of room to pick the spot just for you! The horses on the farm are well cared for and I heard owls and coyotes (other side of the river), and saw a pack of deer. Nice sunset views over the hills to the west.

We had a great time at the creek side camp site! It was a perfect camp site, very clean, beautiful trees and fall leaves. Our dogs loved the creek!
The property is absolutely gorgeous, we got to walk the property down to the river and into the hilly woods for a nice little hike. Horses were beautiful to watch. Mike was very welcoming and friendly.
The creek campsite provided a good amount of privacy, you are still pretty close to the farm but out of sight. It’s an active farm so expect people throughout the day going about farm activities which was no bother to us, actually made us feel more secure.
Such a great place to go to if you are from the city or suburbs, easy drive. As a heads up, some maps will send you to a completely incorrect address so we recommend checking multiple map apps. The place is an obvious big farm with lots of fencing for horses and a big red workshop building so if you pull up to a house that doesn’t have any of that, it’s not the right place.
We definitely recommend this place and plan to return in the future !

The campsite is great, right on the river. The fishing is so-so with high current and weeds/debris. I had to ask for firewood 3 times (I paid for it up front), and was first told told they would bring it, and was then told later to use some scrub oak in the camp area which was wet and needed to be split. So, I had to manually haul 4 bundles of wood the .5 mile to the site. No apologies from the host, nothing. Then, as we were walking back to the site to load out, one of the employees decided to play chicken with us in her tractor, and forced us to walk off the gravel road into the weeds. Not cool. The host will probably ding me for hanging a shirt on the fence that was expected to bother the horses, but I removed it immediately and apologized (I didn't know it was a thing, so my bad). I don't know, but these folks seem a little grumpy and not-very-friendly. Overall, I wouldn't recommend.

This camping spot is the kind of place where, if it were public land and free, you wouldn’t tell anybody about it to keep it secret so it wouldn’t get too crowded. It’s a gift that these fine folks allow people to camp there.

Nice flat private spot next to a sweet little creek. Just be sure you’re prepared to schlep all your camping gear a good 1/4 mile from the place you must park! That is the only caveat. Otherwise recommended fully

We had a great time at Mike and Taylor’s farm! We were looking for a good quiet campsite to do some stargazing during the meteor shower and this was perfect. Loved the riverside campsite and Mike and Taylor were nice enough to drive our firewood out to us. Would definitely go back.

Campsite was amazing, and the hosts were very helpful. They gave us golf cart rides to and from the campsite to help us bring our heavy things, and we were able to do some fishing in the river!

We enjoyed the campsite on the creek's edge, it's a pleasant green glade with plenty of space, and very private. The creek running by adds a lot, and when things quiet down at night you can hear the water running softly by. We met might when we arrived and he was very friendly and helpful with directions for getting to the site on foot from the parking spot. We would definitely camp here again.

Mike and Taylor's property is beautiful. The walk down to the campsite is about 0.5 miles and is quite picturesque. There are fields, trees, and horses along the path. The campsite is right on the river with a fire pit and a metal stand for you to use. We would happily return.
