Ranch lands of a prior Horse Ranch at the edge of town is conveniently located. Most of the property is pasture area but plenty of yard for tent camping and LOTS of space for those who want to pitch a tent in the pastures. We have small goats, chickens, and turkeys on-site (please do not enter barn or animal pens). There are no hookups for water or power, but we can accommodate some use of water from our spigots. We live about 2 miles from our local lake, which has boat access and paddling access. The beautiful view of sunsets and sunrises are spectacular more times than not. We host large herd of deer traveling and sometimes bedding down in our pastures, so be sure to watch early mornings for them to be on the move. We are very close to town, but the 18-acre site brings a serene aspect to the grounds. ***WE ARE BRINGING IN A PORTA-POTTY OR 2 FOR THE TENT CAMPERS OVER THE WEEKEND OF 4/6/24 SOLAR ECLIPSE. WE ALSO HAVE A COTTAGE KITCHEN AND WILL HAVE A FEW BREAKFAST ITEMS, BREADS, AND SWEET BREADS FOR ORDER.

Pasture area is great for small groups; it is at the southeast corner of our property. There is a small dirt path to drive up to that part of the property. As the spring marches forward, the field grass grows, but there are areas to pitch a tent and enjoy some privacy. The corner of the property meets a trail leading to the local park for peaceful strolls. We are told that the trains which run a few miles away are heard from the property. If you are a light sleeper you might want to consider bringing ear plugs.

With two sets of trees in close proximity to each other, this is a perfect spot for a couple travel lightly. This part of the yard is located along side our home at the corner of the property/pasture line. We are told that the trains which run a few miles away are heard from the property. Pitch your tent at the corner of the property along the pasture lines. Deer can be seen frequently in this area, especially early morning. There are a few trees at the edge of the pasture where are you could tie a rope line to hang towels, clothes, etc. This part of the yard is located behind our home at the corner of the property/pasture line. We are told that the trains which run a few miles away are heard from the property. If you are a light sleeper you might want to consider bringing ear plugs.

Site two is directly behind the main house. It is near the pasture line. There are no trees close, so this spot is in direct sunlight all day. There are no animals in the pasture…it’s just healthy grass now. We are told that the trains which run a few miles away are heard from the property. The Northwest pasture land is wide open near the driveway, with no shade or trees. Most could easily access the pasture carefully…transition from the driveway to the pasture is a little bumpy. It’s a wide-open space where dogs on a leash could enjoy some outside time and have potty area away from the camper. Animals welcome as long as they are inside at night. This is undeveloped parts of the property, so there is no access to facilities. We could allow water tank to be replenished for a small fee to cover the cost of water; we have an outside spigot that could be accessed easily. The main road to our ranch has been replaced and leveled in the summer of 2023.

This is a very wide spot at the very end of the driveway, across from the house. 2 trees offer shade. The area is asphalt covered. This listing has a 50 amp service plugin and a water hookup but no sewer. We have a few blue dump tanks and can allow you to dump into our septic opening. The main road to our ranch has been replaced and leveled in the summer of 2023. You will need to be careful entering the driveway under the Farm Sign which extends over the driveway.

I loved tent camping on Cheri’s property! She has an amazing cast of animal characters (absolutely meet the baby goats when you’re there!). I’m sad I didn’t get to stay longer, but I would absolutely recommend her home! Don’t miss the chance to experience that magical morning fog over the farm!

Beautiful farmstead with lots of goats and wildlife. Cheri was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area. I watched hummingbirds go from flower to flower of the mimosa trees at sunset until the mosquitos started to get me. Nice, quiet escape from the city. Rooster alarm clock was provided at no extra charge!

We didn't get a chance to camp here. The owner was friendly upon our arrival, which was immediately following heavy rain, hail, and a funnel cloud. We were also in the area during the time of the solar eclipse. When we went to pull into the "campground", my FWD camper van immediately got stuck in the mud. After several attempts to get out, we had to call a tow truck. We were advised to not camp in the area due to my heavy vehicle and FWD only. If you have an RV or other heavy vehicle and aren't able to get one of the "RV" spots, it may not be wise to stay here.

It's hard to imagine a more welcoming Hipcamp host. That's an understatement. It honestly felt like saying goodbye to family by the time we left after our 3 nights at the lovely farm for the 2024 eclipse. We tent camped in the Pasture Southeast. The pasture was huge, so even though there were about 20 or so other campers in the pasture for the eclipse, there was tons of space. The goats, chickens, and pigs were a delight. We were incredibly lucky to meet the newborn goat, Natalie, on her first day of life during the last day of our stay! The serenade of happy birds, including an owl, added even more peacefulness to the atmosphere. A thunderstorm brought quite a bit of rain that took a while to drain, so checking in with the host and scouting a route is a good idea after rain before driving in the pasture. My girlfriend reported noticing the train that runs through the nearby town at night, so earplugs might be helpful to light sleepers and those not used to train sounds. I'm not sure when or if I'll find myself back in this beautiful part of Illinois, but camping again at, or at least stopping by the farm for a visit would be on my to do list 100%. Thank you, Cheri and family for an absolutely wonderful experience!!

Solar Eclipse Camping with my boys

We camped on Cheri’s land for the total solar eclipse. I brought my two boys And had a wonderful time. Cheri was friendly and helpful. I’m so thankful that she opened up her property for solar eclipse travelers. I would definitely stay there again.

Cheri is a great host!! My partner and I drove into town to see the solar eclipse. Unfortunately, a thunderstorm the night made things muddy which led to some cars (including my friend’s) stuck. Cheri quickly referred then to some towing services and they were able to get them out pretty quickly. Other than that, there was plenty of space for setting up tent, and Cheri was kind enough to provide a in tour of her farmland, which included seeing an hour-old baby goat!!

What a lovely place and wonderful host! It could not have been a better place to take in the Eclipse! The camping field was soft grass and the animals entertained my kids. Cheri was very kind and helpful (and also made some wicked good biscuits and cookies!). I can't mention enough how nice Cheri was and what a wonderful experience we had on her farm.

It was beautiful on Cheri's farm. Not too loud. Her homemade cinnamon rolls were delicious and she did her best to ensure everyone's comfort and safety especially during the severe weather that came through whole we camped.

Cheri was super accommodating! My boyfriend and I planned a last minute trip to see the eclipse and weren’t supposed to arrive to the site until 1:30am. She took pictures and explained right where we needed to be.

Came for the Eclipse. It rained heavily before we arrived and Cheri went out of her way to find a suitable tent site and that we were happy with it. Sweet location, wonderfully helpful host. We made the most out of wet camping conditions! The goats are so cute!

Tent sites were in a grassy pasture, most were elevated on a slight hill. Cheri had provided a couple port-o-potties for the eclipse campers. Came into town for the solar eclipse. Torrential downpour rains but the grass was thick and the ground didn’t puddle. We stayed dry in our tent. Cheri is really nice and the property was beautiful. We had plenty of room to ourselves. Would recommend, would stay here again.

Cheri was an amazing host! We had an unexpected storm roll in, so Cheri (and her family) were nice enough to allow me into their home till it rolled over. The land itself is beautiful with an open pasture for tents and a few spots to set up a hammock if you're resourceful. Waking up in the morning is not so bad either since your greeted by the smell of their homemade pastries, and I have to say that the cinnamon rolls are a MUST have!

Cheri was very friendly and accommodating to my booking needs. Quiet and secluded, yet close to the freeway, which was great for me. The animals were friendly too. I would definitely stay again when in the area.

Cheri has a beautiful piece of property with a large pasture in the rear. There is plenty of good ground over for setting up a tent and the open field is perfect for nature watching and star gazing at night.
