Fin and Feather is a rustic campground located right on the banks of the Mississippi River backwaters, known for its true “camping in nature” experience. Every site looks out over the water with a beautiful sunset view! These primitive sites are large, shaded, and hammock-friendly. The ground is sandy, but the beach is not known as a swimming location. Fin and Feather sits where Big Slough of the Mississippi River meets Spring Lake, part of the Upper Mississippi River Refuge. The Great River Bike Trail runs parallel to the campground. We offer canoe and kayak rentals (message us to arrange a rental in advance of stay) and the lake is an great place to paddle but be aware there is a lot of plant life in backwaters (closes to all boat traffic on October 1st as part of the wildlife refuge during hunting season). Firewood is available for purchase. It's is a work in progress as we renovate this beautiful campground. We only have a few sites listed currently. The camp store has limited hours but nearby towns of Thomson and Savanna offer additional supplies. There’s so much to do in the area, such as hiking at Mississippi Palasades State Park, "troll hunting" in Clinton, IA, shopping in Fulton or Galena etc but with the peacefulness of the campground, you may just want to relax and enjoy the view! We are a small privately owned campground. The grounds are separated into two regions. as you enter the property off off Riverview Road, there is a "T" intersection. As Hipcampers, you will turn right. The north side of the campground is for Hipcamp drop in camping only; tents and small campers like teardrops etc exclusively. (The south end of the campground is for our seasonal campers with bigger Rvs.) You will turn right and drive past the small camp store, a vintage trailer we are renovating and one Rv that is ours. The beach sites listed here on Hipcamp will be on the left along the shore line. We offer well maintained port a potties and there are water spigots on property as well. There is no power or water at the sites, *while is says maximum capacity 4, if you are a family with more kids please submit a specific request. We can make exceptions for families camping with their children.

Riverside Campsite 1 is a flat shady site right along the shores of the backwaters of the Mississippi River. It is a large site with sandy soil, trees for hammocks and beautiful views of the water, wildlife and sunsets. Campers can enjoy riding bikes along the Great River Bike Trail, having campfires, stargazing and more. Campers will have access to port a johns on site. There are no water or power hookups at this site but potable water is available at the communal area. Site capacity is 4 people, unless you specifically request more children for a family stay. Please do not arrive with more people than you listed on your reservation as we will not allow large groups at our campsites. We value all of our campers experiences and want a peaceful time for everyone. 😊

It has beautiful views of the water, wildlife and sunsets. Campers can enjoy riding bikes along the Great River Bike Trail, having campfires, stargazing and more. Site capacity is 4 people, unless you specifically request more children for a family stay. Danika was a great host! She was always available and responsive. It was wonderful to learn from her about the Mississippi River and Spring Lake! We stayed for 2 nights and highly recommend Fin and Feather! Campgrounds are within a short drive to Galena, IL and other cute neighboring towns. We will definitely be back! Thank you for

Riverside Campsite 2
My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our site. It was right on a beachy section of Spring Lake which was nice when it came time to kayak. Campfires while the sun sets over the lake, HELL YEAH! The hosts were super friendly and informative about things to do in the area. We definitely recommend this campground as well as this area. Lots of great spots to hike and fish. Visiting Poopys was also an adventure!

I had a great weekend camping here! The sunset views were beautiful, the fishing was great, and the whole place had a peaceful, relaxing vibe. The hosts were very friendly , which made the stay even better. We would definitely come back again!

Riverside Campsite 3
Fin and Feather Campground was a great place for us to camp. You are right alongside the river/lake, which means you can pitch your tent on soft, comfortable sand. Instructions for getting to camp were clear and easy to follow. Everything was quiet and mellow. It's great to look out on the river in the evening while the fire is blazing. Great to see it first thing in the morning as well. The host was friendly and helpful, checking to see that everything was good after we had set things up.

Danica was our first Hip Camp host. She was very accommodating and welcoming. She let us know about some of the local area and recommended some food and great sightseeing. It was a beautiful sight on the banks of the Mississippi and would highly recommend to anyone traveling that way.
