Nestled within 48 acres of stunning natural beauty, this former Boy Scout camp stands out as a unique destination for nature enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. The preserve boasts a rich diversity of flora and topography, making it one of the most botanically significant areas in our district. Visitors can explore the lodge, three enclosed shelters, hiking trails, and tent campsites, all set against a backdrop of vibrant ecosystems. The area is home to an impressive variety of uncommon plants, including Showy Orchis, Glade Mallow, and Cancer Root, thriving in both upland and floodplain forests. A striking 100-foot bluff, too steep for walking, descends to the South Branch Kishwaukee River, where the water flows over limestone bedrock and cascades over THE GREAT KISHWAUKEE FALLS. This natural feature, while modest in height, offers a charming glimpse of the Midwest's serene landscapes. Wildlife enthusiasts will appreciate the presence of the state-endangered Black Sandshell mussel in the river, as well as nearby nesting Bald Eagles and the rare Pileated Woodpecker.
