Named after Emile Grandjean, a pioneering Danish settler who ventured into this breathtaking area in the 1880s, the campground is surrounded by stunning natural beauty and abundant recreational opportunities. Emile Grandjean established his homestead in the Sawtooth Mountains, near what is now the charming town of Stanley, Idaho. In the early 1900s, he joined the newly formed Forest Service as a forest guard ranger in the Sawtooth Forest Reserve. His passion for the Idaho wilderness led him to create a large game preserve along the south fork of the Payette River, where the Sawtooth Lodge now stands. Grandjean's love for the area's scenic landscapes and outdoor activities continues to resonate with visitors today. The campground provides a perfect base for exploring nearby attractions, including pristine swimming holes, hiking trails, and opportunities for fishing and wildlife viewing.
