Tent camping in a pristine jungle in Hawaii. Perfect.

Pahoa Downtown Hideaway
Definitely great to have a cheap and convenient place to pitch a tent, and the price is right. Lots of jungle plants and noisy frogs was cool ambiance. It was really muddy, so I didn’t feel too inspired to try to hang out and cook in camp but maybe I could have tried harder. Pahoa is a fun town with music and food and such on a little downtown strip. Also enjoyed the public pool and visiting nearby attractions around Hilo.

Pahoa Downtown Hideaway
Best of town and nature.
The best of town and nature! There are lots of trees and foliages. I didn’t really see any animals while staying here.
What I like best about Pahoa is the nature. But if I could redo some things to make it a bit easier, I recommend getting to the site earlier in the day if possible because it gets really dark and it’s harder to set up camp and find the tent sight once it’s dark. In the winter it gets dark early about 6 pm. Also I recommend stopping at some stores prior to getting here to get some water and camping supplies. Again it’s really remote but also close to town. You will definitely need a flash light or lantern for this site. It’s also accessible to town which we really like.
