Nice farm and place, felt safe. I would recommend adding signs or something to show indicate where the designated lots and campsites are

Another guest thought it was ok to hit on my wife after I drove away. I told him that wasn’t respectful. That turned into him leaving then lying saying I threatened him and the host believing the first thing he heard regarding an incident. The neighbors (a nosy Filipina lady as described by the host) went along with the story and we were forced to leave for something that didn’t happen. Very disrespectful and passive aggressive.

Aloha. I didnt know what to expect upon driving to the property I noticed there were 2 cows momma & it's baby [ not] small tho
As I was checking around was very dismayed that there wasn't propane for the shower only a empty tank okay, but the thing they called a bunk house was nothing more then a shack. Lucky I had a huge plastic tarp in my car to cover the tiny couch bed thingy& a beach blanket to cover with. Thank god there were a string of solar lights I didn't break a leg
It did have some cooking utensils & some spices where a cook stove was there But no running water so u had to walk to the hang out place 2 icky couches were. No propane for cooking stove but had running water so I did compromise. But surely feel I was Ripped off by the description & should get a refund glad I didn't book more. As a animal lover I felt like I was dersserting the poor cows no food or feed insight but the watering tub was empty for a long long time I crawled under the barb wire to get the tub & fill for water at least .I found a recipe in the garbage from 2023 so those cows were with out water how long.. Iam filing a report for animal neglect
So sorry stay away !!!!

You certainly do get what you pay for. GPS couldn’t find this location-neither Google nor Apple Maps. No host on site. Poor directions on where to stay. Shower gave creepy vibes. I’m not sure where the pics the host came from, but that ‘private secluded waterfall’ is straight out of a horror movie. Stairs to start to hike were overgrown with weeds. Tops toe offs to the river below is comparable to repelling down a mud hill. Once at the water, didn’t feel safe to enter soooo. There is a ‘common area’ but I did not hang out there. WiFi did not work. But, it’s cheap.

Great spot to park and sleep for the night as long as you enjoy the farm feel. Cows, chickens and all the birds to wake you up in the morning. I would definitely park here again!

We live on the Big Island at South Point. When doing business on the north shore we often car camp rather than drive three hours home. We’ve been to them all and this is BY FAR the best HipCamp on the island. That is really all you need to know.

Definitely try to arrived before dark, other than that is a great place, we were camping around the Big Island and at this site we found all we need at a great price.
The hangout area is a plus, access to wifi and we were able to charge our batteries and phones).

Our crew loved Hamakua Nature Retreat. The host was beyond accommodating and responsive to our needs and requests. We particularly enjoyed having a covered spot to relax with the frequent rains that occurred during our trip. The outdoor show was hot on demand and offered a view of the sea! It was easy to find and well located for exploring the Hamakua coast yet felt secluded and wild. Would absolutely stay here again.

The hot shower was much appreciated. The “hang out” spot was a great place to relax with WiFi under cover. The view to the ocean was amazing.
Yes, it’s not perfect (roosters next door are noisy) but for what you pay, it’s a great deal

Beautiful ocean views! Loved having a covered seating area with WiFi, hot showers, toilet! Value for what you get is great. Roosters on property next door can be noisy, just bring ear plugs if it bothers you. Would stay again.

A nice Place to stay for our last night on Big Island. We were a bit afraid of a group of stray wild boars. They disappeared later.
Without a 4WD Car, it can get challenging to leave the place when the sloped meadow has got wet.

It's a cool location, not far off the main road. We had booked the cabin, and after staying for an hour or so, decided to find another place to stay. We just couldn't see ourselves being comfortable on the bed, which had an uncomfortable thin mattress and not so clean looking sheets. The screen was torn and we were worried about mosquitoes. I checked out the art supplies, but it didn't look like they had been cared for, updated, or used since the original listing of the photos. Much of the camp looked like it hadn't been cleaned out or updated. The pictures show a lot of green grass, but most of it has been uprooted by the wild pigs, so the ground is uneven and difficult to walk on. Not the owner's fault there, just the reality. I think if you were camping there in your own tent, it could still be a cool stay. The outdoor shower looked nice, and I thought the outdoor flushing toilet was neat. There are available kitchen amenities, though I didn't see any propane for the stove in the tent common area. For us, who planned to stay in the cabin, it wasn't a good fit.

Overall the camp site was nice, very guest friendly with clean toilet, beautiful warm outdoor shower and an outdoor lanai covered with roof for rainy days. I loved this little farm. You have to hike down steep hill to get to the waterfall. Beware of booking extra services from this host! I ordered dozen eggs for $10 and I never got them, and I never received a refund. Host is difficult to communicate with does not always answer text messages. We got lost on the way there and we could not reach the host until the next morning, eventually we did find the property. In general if you don’t have to communicate with the host it’s a nice farm to camp at.

We are quite disappointed by our stay there. The area is very crooked and it is hard to find an even spot for the tent. Also there is only few gras. Mainly there is dirt and mud. They try to catch you with the beautiful pictures of nature pools and waterfalls. But they are not on the property. No explanation how to get there. The trail which starts there is steep, muddy and dangerous. The host didn’t check on uns even once and didn’t even respond to my messages! Not hospitable at all. The little shed with the couch and the shower were quite nice though. The kitchen is not well equipped and the stove had no gas.

We arrived during a heavy rain, the ground keeper was super friendly, however the ground was so saturated that it was impossible to find anywhere to park or set up a tent. We were told the running water to the toilet was not working and the path down to the stream was a work in progress. The pavilion was dry but had no ambiance and was in dire need of cleaning. We left and found accommodations elsewhere. The description on hip camp was misleading.

Great open air living room and a fun place to camp. We biked in and the last hill was a killer, but the sunrise and the stars made up for it. Getting to say hi to the cows and cat was a treat. The outdoor shower is delightful. Plenty of spots to set up a tent, but you might want a couple of smaller tents to wiggle into the flat spots. I can’t wait to see it again after they finish their trail improvements! All told it was a really great spot to stay.

We arrived to the spot that hip camp listed the address to at around 8:30pm. The host prior said that a night check in was ok. Hip camp took us to the wrong location and we had no service. Luckily driving around the neighborhood we found the street listed and the gate that we were to park outside of. We arrive and walk in the gate and there is no signage or anything on where to camp. We hear people talking so I go up to them and scare them on accident as I was just asking where to camp. They had no idea about Hipcamp or that we were coming. As soon as I mention the hosts name they seem to understand. They were very nice and awesome people!! Thank god they were so nice to us strangers on the property at night!! We ended up camping just at a flat spot near the gate. I guess we could have made better contact with the host but we didn’t know we wouldn’t have service. I’m sure it was just a miscommunication but could have been easily avoided with proper signage.

Great spot , didn't saw the waterfall it's a lil hike.
Rather then on the property
They have different quality stays there.
The budget priced one , could have better bedding ,maybe a blanket provided be great. Shower and bathroom and water pressure are great.
I ended sleeping on the couch in the chill area.
Bring ice and cooler for your items that need to be refrigerated.

Beautiful property! Lots of room to find a place and set up for the night! The bathroom and shower are a lot nicer than I was expecting! The common area was super cute and fun to hang out at during the mornings! Plus the cows were really cute! Loved the view of the ocean! It made for the perfect spot! Definitely recommend!!

Really neat farm spot but super close to the highway and the country store. We ordered a pizza and brought it up to the site, still warm eating it while sitting in the neat common area overlooking the ocean! We loved all the animals (wild boars too!) that were around, and jumping on the trampoline, the common area, the views, kitchen amenities provided, flushing toilet, outdoor shower, etc. Would stay here again!

We are the only tent so we have the best place but if there is a lot of tent i dont know how it can fit
The common area for campers is great with 2 big sofas. But the kitchen is empty:no lighter, no cooking stuff..and we cannot use the other kitchen (for the rooms) so we use our own stuff (included gas)

C'est très calme et la pièce de vie commune est super avec 2 canapés et du wifi ! cependant il n'y aucun ustensil de cuisine et la propriétaire nous dit que les 2 cuisines sont séparées (une pour les chambres) et qu'on ne peut pas utiliser l'autre. Donc je ne sais pas comment on fait a manger sans ustensils..

The property is oddly hard to find. If you book this accommodations I would highly recommend arriving during daylight. We arrived in the night, I tried to describe the gate and surroundings to the host in hopes for confirmation that I was at the correct property, but he just repeated the directions he had already given me. The “road” to the accommodations is actually grassland with a short, but steep hill. We were in an SUV and did drive over the hill, however two other vehicles staying on the property parked by the gate as it is a bit sketchy to drive over. It rained everynight we were there (which is fine), but if you would book this with the intentions of walking from the gate to the property it is something to note. Additionally, the host provided no description of which site was ours, so we had to open the room door in the hopes to not find others sleeping in there, which was a bit uncomfortable.
The property itself is beautiful, but if you are looking for an easily accessible property and a responsive host I would book elsewhere! If you just want a nice place to stay while you explore then this place is pretty!

Not very clear with cabin was mind. It was dark and I just ended up picking one that was not occupied. No instructions from the host prior to arrival, and I reached over several times for instructions, no response. Could be more labeled. Cute area close to store and restaurant and Lauapahoehoe beach. Just could use more communication with host and clarity on instructions. Beautiful cabins and land with ocean view

Good accommodations for price. We cooked fresh eggs from the farm and other meals in the kitchen. Bring ear plugs as lodging sites are near a neighboring property with many noisy roosters and dogs in the early morning.

Loved the first our first experience with hip camp. The host was very responsive and gave great directions to some cool local spots to visit. Site was clean and met some interesting people while camping. Definitely a great spot, we slept on the far side of the roosters and it was too bad. Put some earbuds in and slept good after that.
