Driveway not compatible with RV

2 days before the trip, we were warned the driveway was steep, but were ensured that we would be fine. The driveway was SO steep. We did not feel that we would get our RV back up the driveway when we went down, so I reached out to Michael to see if he had any ideas or other options. I never heard back from him, so I reached out to the group we rented our RV from to see if they had experience with this site. They agreed with our assessment, and mentioned they have had RVs actually unable to get out of this site after descending. We ended up parking in an industrial lot that night. Perhaps the place is wonderful, but it just wasn't compatible with our RV size and capabilities. ....FYI, I still never heard back from Michael.

We booked this place last minute and were going to stay for 1 night, but never did. We didn't read reviews prior to our arrival, as we were in a pinch and just needed somewhere to crash. This was our mistake.
We arrived in the evening and was greeted by the host. He was enthusiastic and welcoming and offered many recommendations across the island. He also offered a bong rip immediately upon our arrival and was drinking beers with his friend. They are musicians and started to have band practice as we walked around the property.
There were only 1-2 parking areas for our camper van after we descended a rather steep driveway. The site was in disarray with trash and debris throughout the property. There were three dogs, which were nice to us, but we were warned that they can be protective and aggressive at times. The bathroom is in a tool shed, with little to no light. We did not look at the shower, but given the location and the disarray of everything else, we knew this was an unlikely option.
Overall, the vibes of this place did not translate to safety or privacy. The host was friendly, but almost too friendly, if that's possible. He seemed like he wanted party-friends, which wasn't what we were looking for. There were no real personal boundaries either. We were in our camper van deciding where we were going to get dinner when he approached our RV several times to chat. We are all for making friends on our adventures, but something seemed off with this.

Campsite was fine, kitchen was in a bit of a state, and one of the dogs scared the hell out of me. If you have little ones or a bad history with dogs I would avoid this place. The host was quite nice but overshadowed by a dog that was not well suited to be around new visitors at night. Be careful with this one.

The hosts were super friendly and welcoming but the property is super grimy. Totally understand that it's a working farm but the kitchen was covered in a thin layer of food and oils, the bathroom was part of a tool shed and was also quite dirty. We did not end up using the shower as we typically left early in the morning and the hosts were asleep. The public campsites we've stayed in for this trip we're much cleaner and 1/4 of the price. Friendly hosts and cute dogs but just know the amenities aren't amazing going into it!

Overall underwhelming. In my opinion the location is great relative to Kona airport, but the price was excessive, and the house has lots of trash on the porch and in the yard making use of the shower and toilet significantly less inviting.

We choose this campsite for the proximity to an an evening activity in the area since the state campgrounds closed by 9pm. For the price we should’ve just stayed in an Airbnb. Vibes were off…the host had frantic energy which was unsettling. Was more of a large garden than a farm. Several people seem to live there, so lots of comings and goings. Flush toilet was off the back of their cabin, in a tool shed without lights but it worked. Hot shower was outdoors and only partially enclosed so you either wear a swimsuit or be very comfortable with public nudity. The description and amenities could use some editing, and a price reduction. Dogs were sweet but needed flea treatments which was sad. If you’re comfortable with all that then go for it - and bring bug spray.

Arrived late, after 11 and just didn’t feel comfortable enough to stay. Few piles of junk along the driveway going in and the car I parked next to appeared to belong to the property - windows down, trunk open and some kind of clothing draped over the open window. I would have felt pretty awkward walking around with my light to find a spot in the dark to set up.

The drive way is steep then we barely make up the hill
There is no real spot for van there
And never mind toilette shower or kitchen
Basically if your realy stock with no other place go but not more

We enjoyed our stay at Michael‘s farm. It was our first night at the island, it’s not a far drive from the airport. We met cool young people on the farm, got ton of suggestions and information what to see on the island, enjoyed a swing under a tree and start our morning with a fresh coconuts! Thanks so much, definitely recommend if you’re looking for a place to set up your tent

Our group made a last minute reservation at Michael’s after night snorkeling with mantas in Kona. There are two tent platforms and some grassy areas to set-up (on a slight slope). There are two very friendly doggos and a puppy at the farm. Michael was very accommodating, especially since we showed up late at night (10:30pm). The bamboo shower was an excellent amenity after late night snorkeling! Ask him for local hidden gems and take the time to have a conversation with someone who grew up on this island and is willing to share the very best of it :)

Michael was an engaging and proactive host, and I enjoyed the property as the only Hipcamper there. Michael has other friends who live with him on the farm, and I was welcomed like family. We cooked and ate dinner together, admired the beautiful sunset, magical starlight, and said hello to the moon in the morning.
You can read all the reviews and draw your own conclusions, but it’s called Hipcamp, not Squarecamp. The shower was so nice (and hot!) after days of other sites with none, my parking spot was level, and I had probably the most memorable evening in 13 years of short visits to the Big Island. When I come back, I will definitely book in again.

Michael was very friendly and offered some local knowledge and lilikoi fruit. His property has a beautiful view of the ocean, however, it is hard to find if arriving after dark as the sign is small and slightly off the roadway. The amenities were not what we had hoped; the toilet was in a tool shed with no sink and the shower did not offer any privacy. But, there was plenty of space for tent camping and the location is very convenient.

Disgusting, trash filled land. Took several attempts to get up the steep incline to leave. Thought we would need to call a tow truck. We were there about 10 minutes looking for our host, when a young lady who was in the process of getting dressed in her vehicle emerged. Needless to say we did not stay there and immediately requested a refund and have not yet received a reply. The property should be condemned.

Michael was very available, accommodating and welcoming. He offered us lilikoi upon arrival. There is an outdoor shower below that deck that’s got instant hot water that gets good and hot. Michael is more than happy to share about the island. He was very friendly. He also has an outdoor kitchen set up to use, which is handy as well.

We stayed here for our first night on the island with a campervan. We arrived late and left early so we did not interact much with our host.
Compared to the other hipcamps that we have stayed at during this trip, we feel that this campsite is overpriced. We stayed at superior locations (flat parking surface, private and well kept) for $15 less per night.

I liked Michael as a host - he’s a bit eccentric but very funny and generous with info about the island, fruits from his land, and food + drinks. Views are awesome. However, the location is pretty far up the hills - probably only good for a one night stay to crash. Especially bc the driveway is super steep - so if you are in a van, you prob only want to go down there and back out once. Also, not the cleanest amenities - no sink in the bathroom for example. But again, I loved talking to Michael and would absolutely stop by again.

We had a great time. Michael was very generous and the property is gorgeous. Dogs were sweet. Outdoor shower had hot water and extra Dr. Bronners soap, which was a welcome luxury.

We stayed here last minute and it turned out to be great! Michael was kind and very welcoming. He gave us lots and lots of information on the island. He offered us showers and has a working toilet. The view from the site was amazing!!!!

Not quite what I was expecting. The host was drinking and although he was friendly, being a female traveler I felt uncomfortable. The shower was outdoor and in close proximity to the host patio and I didn't feel comfortable using it.

If you are looking for Old Hawaii beach bum style accommodations, this place is on point. Micheal is a super chill dude with a super chill place. Clean flushing toilet, picnic table, remarkable views and super close to town and the airport. We loved our time there and wished we had booked an extra night or two. Worth a stay!

The location is gorgeous up in the hills over Kona, but I have mixed feelings about the camping site. Michael was super friendly and welcoming and had great tips on the Island sites and where to stay. However there was not much privacy as you are parked in a lot with other campers and unfortunately our spot was super muddy. The outdoor shower was under the deck where people were hanging out, so I wasn't keen to use it. The toilet was in the tool shed and I couldn't find a hand basin. Even though there were a few people staying, everyone was quiet at night. We did love going to sleep to the sound of birds and frogs!
