Kaiwiki is a rural neighborhood carved from old sugar cane fields on the slopes of Mauna Kea. Nearby you can peruse the shops and enjoy the restaurants of downtown Hilo. Driving for 15 minutes to an hour you can find everything from Honolii Beach to Volcano National Park, Rainbow Falls, Botanical World, Ziplines and ATV tours, and even the summit of Mauna Kea.

Camp at Howling Dog Guest House
Very nice campsite and very friendly owner. Campsite is clean, provides a nice shelter with kitchen, hot showers and toilet. It’s the rainy side of Big Island but this campsite makes it still nice to camp. Highly recommend!

Maile Kea Treehouse, Camp @ HDGH
Loved the thoughtful design
Such a gem. Beautiful views, far enough out of and above town for a spectacular view but close enough to town for a quick trip. Really enjoyed meeting Steve he was fantastic. His thoughtfulness and attention to detail are next level. I recommend it highly

We loved camping here. We enjoyed the outdoor kitchen and fire place, as well as the view! Steve was great and made sure we had everything we needed. Would definitely camp here again!

Coastline, Mauna Kea & Sunrises!
Worth it just to wake to sunrise!
Stayed for a three nights. I was gone most of the day but it was worth it to stay there just for the sunrise. Steve is an excellent host and took care to show all the facilities and occasionally ask if I needed anything (I did not as the camp has everything I needed). If you stay in the sunrise cabin you don’t have to bring any extra supplies with you as every comfort you might need is present. I would stay here again if I return to Hilo.
