My husband and I had a lovely time camping on Michael’s property. It was so nice being across the street from the beach! They had a nice bathroom and shower set up for you and make sure you feel at home! We fell in love with the local cats and the family was very welcoming. Thank you so much for everything!

Really friendly warm hosts. So lovely and even offered us fruit off their trees :) But this is one of those hicamps where you feel you’re in someone’s family space…It’s also quite close to a noise, littered main road. But, beach and 7 eleven super close walking distance for a pit stop :) locals were all v friendly to us too.

My wife and I truly enjoyed parking our rented camper van at this camp site. Mike, the camp host was so gracious. Not only would we recommend this site, we hope to use it again I'm the future.

Very basic rough bumpy yard and canopy tent with some chairs. There is a toilet + shower, but all amenities are in rough shape.
If you just need a place to sleep and shower, this isn't much better than the much cheaper county park down the road.

Michael was a wonderfull host, lovely and avalaible. The location is ideal to cruise on the east side of the island, and on the north shore. The spot is protected against wind and rain. We enjoyed our stay at Michael’s place.

Positives: host, location, shower, flush toilet w/bidet, I felt safe.
The beach is right across the road and the beautiful mountains are the backdrop. The host and I had a very nice conversation. I booked the site in the back, off of the main road. As a woman, traveling solo, sleeping in my car, I felt comfortable and safe.
If you’re expecting luxury, this might not be the right choice for you, but if you really just need somewhere to sleep and access to a shower and potty, this could be the one. Additional plus, your money is going to a Native Hawaiian.

Pros: It’s quiet. It’s very green. Residents are nice and friendly. It’s got a good bathroom and shower that’s close to walk to. Less mosquitoes than other sites and no other campers.
The circus tent is huge. Super laidback country living for a getaway from the suburbs. Close to so many hikes and cool beaches. The host Mike is super nice and quick to respond for any questions or concerns. It’s cheap. We had a dog and our dog was fine in this environment.
Challenges: Its not a true campsite. So if you want that experience check out other sites. You can hear some neighbor chatter but it’s still very quiet. Overall, a great experience with the family where you can relax and unwind.

Had the best time staying on Mike’s land! Bathrooms were clean and easy to use. The land itself was gorgeous and really enhanced our experience on the North Shore! We hope to visit again soon!

Mike seems super nice. Back property was pretty and My view pretty. Was hard to find, no signs. Homeless guy and lots of garbage at end of driveway. Neighbor dogs barking at us.
Toilet house and shower not very clean or tidy. I dont mind rustic, but this was, it wouldnt pay $40. To camp there again. I paid less for a nicer State camp sight. Didnt feel safe for myself, a women and my son.

Tropical Glamping Under the Guavas

A wonderful first day on Oahu. We slept under one of the many guava trees on Hau’ula Homestead. We throughly enjoyed our night under the stars. The green grass to pitch our tent was comfortable. We appreciated the extra covered seating area complete with lawn chairs and a picnic bench. We enjoyed some of the delicious fruit, picked with permission, straight from the fully laden with guavas and star fruit. A tasty tropical treat. Yum!
The shower room is simple. Yet, it felt good to have a warm shower to wash away the weariness of air travel and again to refresh in the morning. Our holiday plans took us onwards around the island after only one night. Perhaps we’ll plan a longer stay when we return again to the island. We appreciated Michael’s hospitality, before during and after our night of camping in the tropics. Michael kindly stopped by our camp to say aloha. We all felt warmly welcomed. Mahalo, Michael. We all truly felt the island’s Aloha at Michael’s Hau’ula Homestead.

The 2 rv spots were nice and tidy, but the shower was not great. Full of other people's dirty towels and loofahs. The toilet was not much better. There are maybe 2 or 3 other dwellings on the property, felt like an encampment. There was a homeless man passed out at the entrance to the property when I woke up in the morning. There is a nice beach across the road. Great sunrise. I wouldn't stay here again.

Nice spot close to the beach, also close to the road, but we can sleep in sound of passing cars.
We could chose a more quiet spot, but we wanted to see the beach.
The host showed us the facilities, and also the fruit threes he have on his property. We were offered to pick fruits if we wanted.

Very close to the beach. Fell asleep to the sound of waves crashing. Food trucks close. Bathroom and shower available and in good working condition. Host is friendly and accommodating. There was a homeless camp across the road, but we never once felt unsafe. We slept with the camper doors open. Highly recommend!

It was a rainy day camping at Mike’s land, but he had a huge tent that I could drive right into and stay dry. There were fruit trees and Mike said I could pick the star fruit from it :). The location had potable water, trash can, shower, and flush toilet. Thank you Mike for your hospitality!

The good: Right across the road from the beach (which is rare as you might know from perusing hipcamp) bidet as it’s on a septic system, a functional if touchy shower (hot water emerges on lower pressure), cool fruit trees on the property, kitchen for guest use (offered to us by the host so may not be a regular thing), campsite by a meandering creek.
The bad: campsites right by Kamehameha hwy which is very busy as the only main road on the Eastside, it’s the heart of the Hauula (7-11 is just across the bridge), the property smells slightly of compost.
If you stay, you can ask if you can park around the back by the circus tent. It’s quieter there. Better options in the region for $10-$15 more per night though not near the ocean. It is a true homestead with several community members and the detritus that comes with living on an island. I grew up in the AK bush so it felt familiar but to some it might feel ramshackle.

My adult daughter and I loved staying at Hau’ula Homestead. It was quiet and private and had all the amenities we needed. Mike was super friendly and helpful and it was really neat staying in the land where the host’s family has been for generations.
We had super easy access to the Hau’ula beach and the Hau’ula loop trail. The homestead is on the more mellow east coast of the island and provides very easy access to the north shore.
One of the best parts of our stay were the star fruit, guava, banana and breadfruit trees that Mike gave us permission to harvest from. Great picked breakfasts cannot be beat.
Would definitely recommend staying here for anyone looking for a beautiful and mellow stay.

Michael is super sweet! The accomandation was easy to find and yes there is a Toilet and a Shower.
But to be honest, the price is to much to sleep in a garden of someone.
But the View was amazing, its really close to the street and a 7/11

The camp site was very basic, but flat and adequate to host our minivan and our tent. There were 2 chairs and a bench for us to use, and a small plastic table. The washroom had a flush toilet, and the concrete shower stall had good pressure. It was an open air toilet room and shower room but adequate privacy. The sheltered lines for drying clothes were very handy. We camped on a long weekend so the traffic and the camping folks across the road were very loud. We would avoid holidays in the future.

It was a pleasure to stay at Michael’s campsite, he is very kind and understanding and just full of Aloha, we felt very welcomed and at home. He was flexible with letting us move to further in the back yard if the noise from the road was too loud, but it was fine and we opted to say in our original spot. There is a really nice breeze that comes from the beach side so it shouldn’t get too hot. The amenities provided are basic, but it’s clean and safe and you’ll feel refreshed. We really enjoyed our stay at Micheal's Farm :) He is really kind and let us use the shower. You can watch the sunrise in the mornings and tge beach is right across the street.

Overall, we had a good experience. We were close to other tents and campers and wouldn’t feel that private. There is a lot of room in that farm to spread the tens, but for some reason, they keep it in one place close to each other. The place could be better kept because has a lot of potential.
The advantage of this place was the location. Less than 20 minutes driving to Honolulu and very close to Coco head crater.
Also access to the fridge and outdoor kitchen was a plus.

Michael's camp site is very basic but in an amazing location! It's his front yard and the very basic shower and bathroom are in the back yard in an outhouse type building, but the beach facing the eastern sunrise is right across the street! There's a Japanese style 7Eleven convenience store a 2 minute walk from the site with little bento meals, Japanese bottled tea and other snacks! Michael was very kind and we felt at ease!
