Absolutely loved the otherworldly location and exploring the lava field. The bed was super comfortable. The night sky was amazing. Only downsides were rodent droppings on the sheets and towels, but luckily there were spares we were able to use. No propane for hot water when we were there but the cold shower wasn’t so bad, this is Hawaii after all. The view from the lanai towards the ocean unfortunately faces a property under construction but the view of the lava field the other direction was unbeatable.

Such a cool location! Cottage was equipped with everything you need! So nice to have a hot shower and fridge! Be sure to stop at hot foot photography at the end of the road Gary is a wealth of information about the area.

We loved our stay at the Blue Lava Cabin! Melissa was very responsive via text and answered all our questions, and we were able to find the place easily when we arrived after dark. We had to pivot and leave at 5am to journey to the summit of Mauna Kea on our motorcycles to avoid high winds that were moving in for the rest of the week, so we never got to see the surroundings in daylight, but the lava field the cabin sits on would have been surreal. There's a huge deck to hang out on, and the stars were spectacular! The cabin was cozy and had a well-provisioned kitchen, the shower was hot, and the PV-fed battery system powered the house lights and charged up all our devices while we slept. This was our second night on our 6-day motorcycle tour of the island. We would definitely stay here again!

We enjoyed staying at Blue lava cottage. The night sky is unbelievable if you get clear skies. It was great for a one night stay. The host was great!

Truly unique spot in the lava fields! Worth it for a night or two. It’s not super close to everything but if you have the time to travel, and are looking for something different then this is a great place to experience. The sky in the night is absolutely amazing to see! The home has all of the basics and we had no issues with the water or power. 👍🏼🎉
