The place that you will be visiting has a rich Hawaiian history. The ahupua'a of Malanahae was home to an elite band of warriors belonging to the army of Kamehameha. This land was given to one of Kamehameha the greats four generals named Pa'ako. The bones of Pa'ako and his family are buried on this land that they loved so much. In the old times it is said that the bay of Malanahae was the only safe place to launch a fishing canoe during windy conditions. The Beach family has been caring for this land for the past twenty-five years. In the old times the flat lands were used for warrior training and in peace times the Makahiki games. It is the site of several noted battles in hawaiian history. We currently use the land to grow water Melon, native hawaiian patato, and a variety of exotic fruits including mango and leechee. The word Malanahae literally translates to "a body of fierce men" Please respect this land and its people past and present during your visit. This land is sacred and should be treated as such. Please carefully read all requirements for booking prior to doing so. All guests must meet at check in location prior to site entry for safety briefing and orientation.

Disappointing- Not Worth the Price
Not what we were hoping for considering the price we paid. We arrived and the hosts took us down to the camp spot and dropped us off. That was the first and last time we ever saw them. We were under the impression we would be provided firewood because other reviews mentioned it but we quickly realized only as the sun was going down that we would not be offered any wood. The port o potty was unusable as the bowl was filled with maggots. Nope. The way down to the fishing spot was beyond sketchy. Just a ladder leaning against very steep and dangerous lava rocks. Not safe at all. This is definitely not a place to bring kids. My husband and I are avid campers and we are not afraid of roughing it but this was basically paying $100 a night for just raw land. The view is nice and I guess that was what we paid for but we were disappointed to find that there was no bbq or grill even though the amenities mention that those are available so we literally had to get creative to find a way to make our dinner. Overall we would not return to this spot as we do not think it was worth the price we paid.

Best of Big Island
This is hands down the best camping spot on the Big Island. Erik and Johnelle are the best. They are true stewards of the land and passionately care about their guests and their experience. This is the second time that I've camped here and it just keeps getting better. Amazing views, a cute cliffside bathtub, and the hosts are inspiring people. If you are looking for a beautiful retreat from the default world, this is it. Erik and Johnelle are so welcoming and dedicated.

Intimate Bay View Bluffs
Incredible spot. Incredible hosts that will treat you like family. True aloha spirit here where you can get away from it all. Easily one of the best camping experiences we’ve ever had. Can’t wait to come back! Mahalo- Nick and Heather

Fisherman’s lookout
Eric and Johnelle were the best hosts we have ever had. They were so much fun and welcoming and their campsites are so beautiful that you will have a hard time believing that it is real and that you are not dreaming. However, when you are dreaming you will be quietly serenaded by the soft sounds of the ocean. I cannot wait to come back.
