Conveniently right off the main highway the Retreat is situated on a 100 acre farm that has been in the family for over 100 years with ties to the Historic Prater’s Mill when it was in full operation in its hay day! Ricky and I decided to start sharing our pond in 2019 after years of people requesting to go fishing here. What started out as a pay pond has grown into a Pondside Retreat for the outdoors person to come Retreat, Relax, and Restore! Our prayer is everyone who enters feel the presence of our creator, a haven of rest, and feel restored after leaving here. Bring your own kayak, raft, canoe if you like! Don't forget to visit the beautiful Prater's Mill landmark close by while your here! Learn more about this land: A place to come Retreat, Relax, and Restore. We are conveniently right off the main road, nestled in a 100 acre farm on the Scenic Byway in the picturesque Prater Mill community. Camp is set up in a beautifully shaded area pondside. The Tiny cabin is completely screened in. Catch and Release fishing included!

Perfect Low-Key Camping
My husband, daughter and I had a wonderful time here this weekend! The campsite was perfect. The shelter even has a locking door if you wish to lock it and check out the local sites. We went to the Country Fair that was a mile down the road, and it was perfect. The pond is full of big fish, but bring some live bait. Our 7-year-old daughter had a blast catching guppies and frogs in the evening. The walking trail around the lake was perfect for a different fishing spot. We always bring everything, and we were still able to borrow something from Carol and Ricky with just a text. They have more than helpful touches around the site, and the solar lighting is the perfect ambiance. The park style grill was really nice to have and made my job a lot easier! We were even given a quick tour of the property by Carol and Ricky on their 4-wheelers. This is a wonderful site, especially for those with kids and pets. Steps away from your parking to the pond and to your bed. The road is somewhat nearby, but even on a “busy” weekend there, we didn’t find it bothersome at all. We loved our stay. Thank you for having us!

What a wonderful place. Nicely located in the woods right next to a pond. The cabin is brand new and the whole site is very well organized. We arrived late, but the host actually helped us to start a fire, met and great us and made sure we had everything.

Pondside Tiny Cabin Retreat
We loved the tiny cabin pondside retreat. The cabin was perfect for us and our 2 small dogs. It was a hot weekend but the fans kept us nice and cool at night. The 2 picnic tables gave us plenty of room to set out kitchen up and left the other table free for eating and games. We played 4 games of all terrain croquette that was a blast. We set up a dog run between 2 trees for our pups and they loved it. We could have let them off leash but our pups do not know how to stay close, see a squirrel and gone. The fire pit was amazing as were the solar light that came on at dark. The ones in the tiny cabin set the ambiance for relaxing and rejuvenating. The sounds from the pond were awesome as well. And the fans at night were just enough to lull you to sleep. We enjoyed talking with Ricky and he was very helpful. We would give it a 5 star rating and will definitely go back. PS we are not into fishing but I wish I was because it was the perfect spot if you wanted to drown a worm.

Will stay again!
Absolutely loved the trip. The Cabin with the screening made you feel like you were sleeping outside but still very much protected from the elements. The pond is full of wildlife, i.e. turtles and frogs, which we always love to see. The trails close by we’re easy to walk and full of delicious black berries, but make sure you wear tick repellent or long pants. It was just very relaxing. We cooked at the site but also there’s plenty of places to eat out close by. Also, we did still have cell signal if that’s important to you. I ended up needing to work for a bit so I very much appreciated being able to do so from the cabin.

Highly Recommend
Carol is an amazing host. The Tiny Cabin is the only one there, so isn't anyone around to disturb you. The pond is great for canoeing and fishing. The only negative I have is that it's close to a busy highway so there is quite a bit of traffic noise. Even with that, it's a very nice place to stay. Oh! And I didn't see one mosquito!!

Perfect and Relaxing Tiny Cabin
So relaxing! I had a wonderful weekend stay at the Smith's tiny cabin and pond-side campsite with my pup Max. The Smiths were the most welcoming and hospitable hosts you could ask for! They greeted us upon arrival and showed us the site, they even gave us a tour of the walking trail on their ATV so we could get a lay of the land. The site was clean and stocked with warm water, soap and hand towels as well as a stack of firewood that more than lasted us for the weekend. There is a perfect spot nearby for a hammock which was perfect for an afternoon nap. We were able to explore the walking trails on the land and later went down to the historic Prater Mill which is perfect for a stroll, picnic, fishing or a little tourist stop! The cabin itself was the perfect size for us and the Smiths thought of everything for our comfort -- they had privacy curtains, a couple of much appreciated fans, and even a phone charger! And I will note, they had the cleanest port-o-potty I've ever been in. Overall, a perfect spot for a little retreat! We'll definitely be back again :)

Peaceful Pond Getaway
The cabin is quaint and sturdy, felt very safe and secure in housing my belongings, and stayed dry and cool through a rain storm with the screened panels and coverings. Though what really makes this place unique is the land surrounding the cabin. Waking up and having the lake directly in view made for a peaceful and serene morning. There are walking trails alongside the pond strewn with dogwoods and towering pines for deep exploration, and large picnic tables that could easily host a large group. The site is really the perfect balance between the comforts of home and being immersed in nature. Carol & Ricky themselves were very gracious and accommodating in ensuring I had everything I needed to feel right at home, with offering to help me out with the pieces I had forgotten , while also respecting my privacy. Thank you again for such a lovely stay!

Wonderful and relaxed weekend trip
The hosts are generous and welcoming, the property is beyond immaculate.. including the potra potty if you are worried. They have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. We had planned to sight see in the area but once we got there we didnt want to leave. Grocery store is very close to the property so made it nice to run and get extra things and food. Would love to stay again. You don't want to miss this gem of a place.

Our weekend at the Pondside Tiny Cabin Retreat was awesome! The cabin had all of the essentials and then some! The hosts Carol and Ricky have thought of everything! The cabin was super cute with the glamping package. The pond was easy to get kayaks in and out of. I definitely recommend staying here!

Fun and low-stress camping!
The Tiny Cabin Retreat was perfect for a low-stress camping experience with my 8-year-old son. The cabin is well-constructed and adorable. We signed up for the "glamping" supplies and it made life really easy. We did bring our own coleman stove which made it easy to cook meals (and make coffee for mom). We also enjoyed the ATV tour of the property and spent time feeding the fish and exploring the nearby historic mill. Carol was a delightful host.

Cute Cabin Camping 🏕
Perfect camping for people who aren’t good at camping-like me! Carol & Ricky were so friendly. We chose the “Glamping Package” and really appreciated the little touches-including two fans that kept us cool at night, cooking ware, portable chargers for our phones, tiki torches & candles that kept the bugs away, and even a sweet note to greet us! There is also a porta-potty on site, which was a pleasant surprise. My boyfriend loved being able to wake up and fish the pond outside, and the stargazing was to die for! We walked on their trail and then headed to the Blue Ridge Mountains for fishing and horseback riding. A great weekend retreat!

A Sweet Oasis
What a beautiful place, tucked away in a beautiful wooded area, and created and cared for with thoughtful attention to all the details! I stayed here for one night with my pup, Matilda, and I was so delighted to feel so welcomed by Carol, and to find all the comforts and amenities I needed. She even included a little bed for Matilda. The spot is perfectly situated next to a pond, and the water captures gorgeous light at sunset and dawn. There is a nice trail around the pond, too, with lots of beautiful mushrooms of many colors and sizes (we visited in July). I loved the personalized welcome sign, the pretty solar lights, the washing station (with warm water!) and picnic table, the fire circle with chairs, and overall the very clean, secure and adorable tiny house with a comfortable cot and chair. Honestly, I'd be happy to just live there. I should add, too, that I was traveling alone with my pup, but as a single woman, I felt perfectly safe here. I just loved this place, and I highly recommend it! Carol is really lovely, too.

Wonderful glamping retreat!
We just returned from a wonderful stay at Ricky and Carol’s Tiny Cabin at Smith Springs! Our family of four (and our German shorthaired pointer) brought our own tent and pitched it beside the tiny cabin. We had never pitched our own tent before, so this was a perfect “tester” site. We had the cots in the tent as backup, and since it rained overnight on our visit, the cabin was wonderful to have as far as rain cover and extra storage. The hosts could not have been more gracious and offered lots of choices/additions we did not use (fishing/ATV tour, etc) due to the forecast. However, my kids had a blast hiking around the pond, grilling, using the fire pit, etc before the rain came. Our pup is well behaved and comes back when called so he was allowed to be off leash, and loved exploring around the site. The port-a-potty and evening lighting (solar lights and Tiki torches) were wonderful bonuses. These hosts have thought of everything and I absolutely give the property 5 stars and have already recommended it to others!

Comfortable and welcoming stay
Carol and Ricky were amazing hosts. They were extremely kind and willing to help with any requests or questions. I stopped in on a cross-country roadtrip and was only able to spend a night there. If I get the chance to visit again I will definitely be back for a longer stay. Lots of land to explore and relaxation to be had. And for the birders out there - this was a great spot!

Easy and relaxing!
We absolutely enjoyed our stay here. All of the extra touches Carol and Ricky provide are great! Very well stocked with cooking camp side necessities (pots, hand towels, soap etc) 👍. The fire pit, tiki torches and the solar powered party lights made it easy to enjoy outdoors after dark. They truly thought of everything to make this a very enjoyable and relaxing getaway. It even rained overnight, so we rolled down the sides inside the screened cabin to stay dry and listened to the rain on the metal roof as it lulled us to sleep. Highly recommend!
