Piney Hills Campground

Great location and site. The animals are friendly and provide a great soundtrack to your stay. The site included a raised, wooden tent pad which was great. There are a good amount of trash cans available and the area is incredibly well maintained. The outhouse is in great condition and provides enough hot water for a good shower while the laundry facility provides an incredible resource and a free outlet. I felt very safe and had a wonderful experience. 10/10

Peaceful, clean, safe camping with

Camping in the A frame was absolutely perfect. We arrived late and left early as it was just a stop on our travel but it was exactly what we needed. The grounds were clean and quiet. The bed and bedding was more comfortable than most hotels. We used the AC in the A-frame for a little while but it cooled so well we ended up turning it off. The showers were huge in comparison to other campgrounds and they were very clean with hot water. Wish we could've stayed longer than the one night. We'll definitely go back on our next trip!

Site #4 - Platform in the Pines

This was such a hidden gem! The cabin was adorable, clean, and close to a very nice bathhouse. We were right next to two friendly ponies, and a short walk from a variety of animals, which the kids loved feeding. The campground was clean, quiet, and peaceful. Lisa was so kind, and even brought us a bottle of wine because we were there to celebrate a birthday. We will absolutely be back!

A fabulous family experience

We have stayed at Piney Hills two fall seasons in a row now, and I can’t envision a year that we wouldn’t return. I love it (wife) because it is gated and I feel safe there, my husband loves it because it gets his wife out into nature (😂), and the kids love digging around for toads and bugs, and they love the farm animals so much. We’ve stayed both in an A frame and a tent site. If you’re staying in a tent and you want sleep, there are roosters at the farm so bring some ear plugs, they crow early! Ha! ;) Lisa is so sweet to the kids, and you can tell they just love providing a great place for families and everyone to enjoy a little slice of nature. 10/10.

This place is great! The property is very nice and well maintained and the hosts are friendly. Notably Lisa, we chatted with her several times and each interaction was super pleasant. Interacting with the farm animals was fun, especially the sweet farm dogs. From driving through the trails in one of the rentable golf carts to swinging on a tree swing, our trip was awesome from start to finish. Would definitely recommend and we hope to return!

Great Place to Camp

This was a fantastic place to camp. Jame’s and his son were extremely accommodating and even helped us with anRV power issue we were having. They came back later that day just to check on us. The restrooms and facilities were very clean and a pump out station was near by. There are plenty of farm animals you can visit and lots of trails if you like to hike. Our spot was level and well kept. We will be back again. Thank you, James!!

Terrific pet friendly camping!

We stayed two nights in the large A-frame and had a wonderful time. The campsites are spacious, not crowded together like so many others. The bath house was clean, quaint, and so adorable. They even had motion sensor lights to light up the area as you walk up to it at night. Their animals are so precious and are fun to interact with. There is quite a lot of acreage and many trails, unfortunately we did not get to take advantage of them this trip (next time!). The hosts, Lisa and James, are incredible people that go above and beyond if needed. Their Farm and Campground is a continuous work in progress, but you can tell it is a labor of love. This is not a place for those who love KOA type campgrounds (no pool, no clubhouse or tennis courts, etc...), but I would highly recommend it for those who truly love to camp. And as we travel with our two little dogs everywhere we go, it was important for us to find someplace that was pet friendly. Our dogs had a great time meeting all the animals and seemed to enjoy their stay as much as we did. Lisa and James even provided some treats for them upon our arrival. Overall, a great experience!

This place is wonderful and I hope to be able to stay here again. My friend and our dog stayed in an A-Frame campsite. Throughout our stay I was so impressed with how our Piney Hills Campground site had all the simple necessities. Nothing more, nothing less, & in a pleasant style/decor. The land is beautiful, and it is filled with the world's cutest animals ! Emus, ponies, geese, ducks, chickens, goats, and three little piggies seemed as happy to see us as we were them. We got to listen to the sound of a distant (perfect volume) train whistle and rooster crowing during our stay too. A very comfortable time in nature was had. Thank you, Piney Hills Campground !

Animals, golf carts, and wine…Oh My

Wow!! This was our second visit to the property. We came last year and tent camped with our oldest daughter and family. I knew we would come back. I didn’t expect it to be so different from a year ago. The owners, Lisa and James, have added rv sites (we stayed in site 17) and are building cabins. The farm has grown, too. Plenty of animals to see and talk to. They have golf carts you can rent to really experience the 100 plus acres that includes many hiking trails. They have a carriage ride available while you stay on the property that takes you to a local winery. Definitely a must while you’re here!

A Great Campsite !!!!!

All of the above was amazing!! Lisa and James had great knowledge about nearby attractions!! The bathroom/shower was clean and easily accessible! Laundry was a great add on but bring some quarters (however the hosts worked with us to get us the change we needed). Make sure to give helping hand to feed the animals as it was a highlight for us!! This was such an awesome place and we would be happy to stay here again!!

I loved the glamping experience here, lots of cure animals on the property like ponies,lamb,ducks an Emu and the sweetest farm dogs you'll ever meet. Hot water in the showers and every site came with a fire pit,grill and picnic table. Had a lovely weekend here and can't recommend the wine tour enough.

We had a great time at Piney Hills! The hosts were amazing, and the space was perfect for us- just like camping except the air conditioning in the A Frame was a lifesaver in July! Our young kids loved the animals and had plenty of space to explore around the property.

This was a great place to stay- sites were well marked and each had a picnic table and fire ring. The animals on the farm were the main attraction as we were greeted by an emu at our site! We also really appreciated the showers and flush toilets. Great place to stay!

What a gem. The perfect halfway distance between where we live in Florida and where we like to visit in North Carolina. My husband loved the drive on the back roads, it's a nice change from taking 75 or 95 every time. This campground was so freaking cute. The tent sites are spacious and nestled in the pine trees with privacy. When we arrived no one else was there we had the whole campground to ourselves which was awesome. The site we stayed at backed up to a fence and two mini horses came to say hi to us. There's a little trail that goes by even more farm animals you can stop and say hi to. The sounds while sleeping were full farm.. cows mooing and horses neighing and roosters crowing on top of birds chirping and cicadas screaming and trains rumbling by 🎶 I'll take that over cars, sirens and dogs barking any day!

Lisa and James were very gracious hosts. We enjoyed the tranquilly of their property and the many different animals to visit and pet. We were exhausted when we arrived due to unexpected delays while traveling but they made our stay relaxed and restful .

I absolutely loved my stay here! I actually ended up coming back to stay again on the same trip! I stayed at site 3 the first night and it was spacious, but also not so far away from others that I felt isolated. The dark skies were beautiful, and the campground was super quiet. I loved seeing the horses right across from us! My second night was at site 10 and it was super spacious. Lisa was super helpful and friendly, and Mike who helps with grounds was a lifesaver when my car wouldn’t start the morning of checkout. The bathrooms were cute and very clean— they exceeded my expectations and having a full shower was such a bonus while camping! The aframes were adorable and I can’t wait to see what else they develop on this campground! So glad I found this place—10/10 recommended!

Lisa & James have a cozy set up. The showers were clean and the aminals were friendly. We were only here for a night, but highly recommend! Just bring your food and drinks beforehand. Not much for dining close by.

Piney Hills Campground was amazing place to stay. The a-frame was great, even had ac so when we went into the a-frame. The farm has amazing animals that are so sweet and love to be shown love! We even did the covered wagon ride to the winery which was an add on, a wonderful experience where we got to see great views and different sites in Mauk. If you are able you should definitely take the trip to the winery! Can’t wait for our next trip up there!

Nice spot to spend a couple days

This is becoming a very nice campground. It’s still a work in progress but the facilities are all first class. We stayed in a pull thru with electric and water. Nice views if the adjacent animal farm. A new bathhouse on the premises with four individual complete bathroom shower combo. They have a laundry area and the host will also sell you firewood. It’s a nice place but it’s out of the way. The road to the campground is red dirt so either you’re going to have a cloud of dust or mud when it has rained. The tent area has a great tree canopy but the rv spots are in a tree less area so it’s nice if you have air conditioning in your rig. Would probably go there again if in the vicinity

Great place to camp

What a perfect place to camp! With the campground situated on a farm with a locking gate at the front, you feel safe yet immersed in nature. I had two horses come up to my campsite in the morning. They’re so friendly! This was my first time camping alone, as I’ve camped with family many times in the past. Light a fire first to see where smoke is blowing, then set up your tent. I found a nice decently flat spot. I would recommend this to anyone. I hope to be back in the future.
