Parking is only available at the bottom of the driveway for tent campers. All tent sites are less than a 5 minute hike up the trails. There is plenty of firewood available after 3 hurricanes in a year's time. The Bird Ranch is 4 acres of peaceful nature. We have 3 pioneer sites (2 with fire pits), and one RV hook-up (30 Amp power and water) to choose from. We never really know what wildlife is wondering around or when they might pop up. Rest assure though; there are always birds singing, crickets chirping, frogs croaking, owls hooting, and we can even hear the neighboring pigs, chickens, cows, goats and dogs from time to time. I will take all that over city noise any day of the week! The Gofer Turtles are protected wildlife here, but please do not disturb ANY of the animals or their homes. We have had kids destroy a turtle's home before, so please be mindful. The property has trails, an open field for games, and plenty of day outings to do. There are 2 natural springs (Royal Springs and Little River Springs) off the Suwannee River that are each a 10-minute drive. Branford Springs and Troy Springs are within 20 minutes. You can float down the Ichetucknee River on an innertube (seasonal), catch a local rodeo just down Hwy 129 or take a 3 hour round trip bike ride on the Suwannee River Greenway. The Mystic Jungle Educational Facility is a quick 15 minutes up Hwy 129 towards Live Oak, where you can learn about their wild animals on a guided tour, but they are only open on Saturdays. Cedar Key is a quiet little town 1.5 hours away with cute shops and restaurants for a nice day trip ***(also very messed up from hurricanes last year, so no promises)***. They roll up the streets after sunset; but what a beautiful sunset! There are also a few horseback riding ranches within 20 minutes from the property and if you're really adventurous and want to ride a camel; Lonesome Chicken Camel Ranch is less than an hour away. Call ahead to make sure they are open. Please be courteous of your fellow campers and my neighbors, by adhering to a 10 pm noise maintenance.

The Bird Site 3

90%

Tent site · Sleeps 4
Site 3 is the most primitive, as it does not have a fire pit yet. Take the trail across from the parking area, then take the first left. It's the first campsite off the trail. There is a Bird sign on your left marking the Bird Site. Follow that trail to your site. The field and outhouse are to the right at that intersection. Deer and other wildlife roam the property, so you never know who might come visit. It is tucked away and can hold two average size tents. Do not mess with the Turtle caves. Florida weather can be rough and unpredictable, so check the weather for O'Brien. There have been many times that I was caught in a downpour on the way home, just to find out it never even sprinkled here. There are many Springs in the area to cool off in too. The trails are free to roam, and the field is free game to share with other campers. On most weekends there is a campfire up at the base camp by the pond. Enjoy your stay and don't forget the bug spray.

The Bunny Site 1

Tent site · Sleeps 6
The Rabbit Site 1 has a fire ring. Please maintain your fire at all times. You are welcome to collect any fallen branches for your fire, but please do not cut anything that is still green. If something is a nuisance, please let us know so we can remove it or trim it. Each campsite has space for a maximum of 2 tents. There is an outhouse building by the field, for privacy. There is a portable potty inside and Double Duty bags are available for $5, but you will be responsible for your own wastes. There will be a $150 fine if I have to dispose of your waste. Parking for tent camping is at the beginning of the driveway, on the left, where you will hike to your designated Camp Site (5 minute walk). There are trails throughout the property and a large field to play on. Animals are welcome as long as the owner maintains control of them at all times. There are many bugs (bring bug spray) and wildlife that roam the area, so you never know who/what may come visit us. Close by are freshwater springs, bike trails, horse ranches for riding, rodeos most weekends, and water activities all along the Suwannee River. If you bring a boat, there is room to park it on the side of the road (206th St. A.K.A. Pecan). Bring a bird house and you can pick where to hang it at the Bird Ranch!

The Turtle Site has a fire ring. Please maintain your fire at all times. You are welcome to collect any fallen branches for your fire, but please do not cut anything that is still green. If something is a nuisance, please let us know so we can remove it or trim it. Anyone is welcome to come up to the Base Camp and join us if we are having a fire by the pond. Each campsite has space for a maximum of 2 tents. The Turtle Site is named after the Gofer Turtle that reside(s/d) close to the camp site. If you do see one, please do not disturb them, for they are a protected species. The site is on the main trail, but it is also close to the playing field. There are golf clubs and several other outdoor game/sports equipment available upon request when hosts are home. This is the most open site we have, while still providing plenty of privacy. There is an outhouse building by the field, for privacy. There is a portable potty inside and Double Duty bags are available for $5, but you will be responsible for your own wastes. There will be a $150 fine if I have to dispose of your waste.
