Excellent camping at the beach

We had a wonderful time camping at Sugar Sands Beach. The set up is fairly private, it is in a backyard but there is a fence separating the campsite from the garage. It’s very quiet and the campsite faces the woods. We loved the outdoor shower and foot shower. Would be even better if someday Wayne decides to make it enclosed. But very useful for keeping the sand down. It was an easy 3 block walk to the beach and the beach access is right there. The beaches are beautiful and not crowded at all. It was a fantastic vacation. Wayne was very quick to respond with questions and advice for places to go in the areas.

If you have your own shower as well as transportation to get anywhere, this would not be a bad place to stay. The listing says that it has an outdoor shower which it definitely does not. It is a beach rinse off station. Zero privacy to the shower, not even a stall. My husband and I both showered in our bathing suits and neighbors on golf carts would stop and watch as well as whoever was staying above the garage would look out the windows. There is also cameras on the property that seem to point directly in to where you are staying, and "shower" Property is maintained nicely but we will definitely not be back due to complete invasion of privacy

Absolutely loved our time at Wayne's. It's private, backed up to a beautiful yard and woods. Just blocks from the beach, and not right next to other campers in a campground. Absolutely would stay here again! Wayne was fast with the only question we had, and a great guy.

Site as described. Feels isolated due to facing the wooded area. Wayne has picnic table, shower, garbage can and full hookup.
3 blocks from beach access. You will want a cart if have much to carry.
Wayne is easily reachable if you need anything. We love
this area and would use the site again.

Wayne was such a great host! Everything was ready for us when we arrived and he responded immediately to our questions and needs throughout our stay. It’s clear he takes great care of his property - beautiful grass and wooded area. The site was just perfect. We would love to come back soon!

We were within a few blocks of the beach, and the sand and water were gorgeous! We had a peaceful and safe stay. We hope to return another time!

Great spot away from the hustle bustle but yet close enough to the beach. Wayne was very accommodating and welcoming. Pet friendly. Campsite offers a fire pit, a picnic table, and an outdoor shower. If there was anything negative to say, it would be that I didn’t really like that. The RV pad is sand. Wayne has pieces of plywood out to step on and also a rug where your door opens, but it still tracks in pretty badly. Other than that, everything was perfect. we will definitely return if we are in the area.

There is a full hook-up and an outdoor shower, and it is close to Port St. Joe and Mexico beaches. The neighborhood is quiet.
The guy who complained about the older woman next door must not have any compassion. She comes outside with her dog and likes to talk to people; she is probably lonely. She talks to her dog, but what dog owner doesn't talk to their dog?

The space was private and nestled between a privacy fence and the woods. Sweet little lady walks next door and yes she chats to her dog but it’s sweet ❤️ Wayne was very kind and helpful. He had rugs and plywood down to help with the sand and an outdoor shower/foot rinse area as well. We loved it! Plenty of space. Really nice little town, clean and kept well, safe feeling. We would come back! Thanks Wayne!

The lot was very private. It was easy to get into. The sewer hookup functioned very well and watere hookup was good as well. Outdoor shower was available and foot shower worked well.
Close walk to the beach and dogs were welcome on the beach with leash.
There was a dog park 1.5 miles and a pickleball court in the same area.
Wayne's set up was state of the art.
Good communication with Wayne regarding directions to get settled in.

Quite, clean, peaceful I only spoke to Wayne a couple of times & it was always; do you need anything, is the WI-FI strong enough, let me know what you need. The spot faces nature so nothing ugly to look at and the beach is right down the street. I already told Wayne I would probably see him next year.

3 blocks to the beach. Quiet “old town” neighborhood. Might be a bit crowded if all 3 units were rented out (there seemed to be a main house & a garage apt in addition to the RV pad). NO WIFI. Despite being 30-40 yards from the router, there was zero reception. Host was dismissive & not accommodating when asked about the non-existent Wifi. (I imagine a $150 router upgrade would solve the problem, but host is apparently unwilling to make the investment.) The RV pad is sand, which means your RV will always have sand in it. Host makes poor use of cheap plywood in an attempt to provide stability for your RV wheels. Only 50a power available. Water spigot is incredibly low to the ground & will not accommodate your filter or splitter. Every time we were outdoors the neighbor walked her dog along the property line and talked to her dog the entire time. Not sure we will return.

We Liked the setting of our campsite. Lots of amenities & privacy with full hookups up. Near restaurants, Dollar General, Package Store & great Beach access. Property borders on forest. We even had deer grazing near our campsite.
Wayne was excellent with his communication before, during our stay & after. Great Host. We had an enjoyable stay & would definitely recommend.

What a great find! The site was just as described, our door faced the woods, so it felt very private especially for being in Wayne's back yard. The outdoor shower was priceless, it was right by our door so it was easy to rinse the sand off before getting into the camper. There was even a laundry line for our use, which is always nice during beach trips. The beach was so close, and it was beautiful. Perfect for our young children. Wayne was easy to get in touch with, and very helpful. 10/10 would recommend!

Private single site. Full hookups and great outdoor shower/foot shower.. Three blocks to the beach. Quite neighborhood. Starlink worked just fine. Clothesline provided too. Visit the Shipwreck Raw Bar Restaurant just minutes away! Great local place! Enjoyed our stay! Great communication with our host Wayne. Highly recommend!

This RV lot was such a short, easy bike ride to the beach. Had we stayed more than one night, we would’ve hit up the food trucks nearby. The lot was exactly as described and I was even able to do laundry!! What really takes the cake, though, is how Wayne went above and beyond to help us. Our air went out and he stepped up with a solution and I can’t thank him enough for that. The area is very quiet and peaceful and a great option when you visit the Port St. Joe area.

Wayne's campsite was awesome! It is behind his home but you are facing a wooded area at the back of a quiet neighborhood. The site was clean, level and easy to get in/out of. There is a picnic table, fire ring and outdoor shower. The outdoor shower was great for washing sand off yourself and all your beach gear. Due to the heat and the amount of gear we were taking with us to the beach, we drove down to the beach but you could walk, ride bikes or use a golf cart. Parking at the beach was no issue and there are numerous public access points. The location is ideal due to the proximity to the beach (end of the road about .5 mile), the towns of Port St. Joe and Mexico Beach (10-15 minutes) and Cape San Blas (25-30 minutes.) We chose this location due to it being in Gulf County and the beaches being dog friendly--this is our 4th trip to the area and our first time staying here and my family all agreed we would definitely stay here again!

The camp spot is well maintained and gives the feeling of safe. The RV spot is easy to back up in and has accommodating hookups. There is use of a picnic table, outdoor shower and clothesline. The beach is close and requires a 10 min walk or a 2 min drive.

Due to our line of work, my husband and I always look for some place to unwind and tune out the world when we it’s time to decompress. This campsite provided all of that and more! The site was clean and well equipped to have our unit set up and running in short time. The forest backdrop made for peaceful mornings sipping coffee under the awning as we watched birds and dragonflies buzzing about; I’ve never see so many birds at one location: blue jays, cardinals, woodpeckers and ospreys. The neighborhood was quiet, clean, and friendly. I enjoyed a walk each morning to work on my “step quota” for the day. I also enjoyed the short walk straight from the driveway to the sugar sands each day. A short drive to Port St. Joe city limits provided for any essentials or other needs. We also explored nearby Cape San Blas and Mexico Beach. It’s amazing how the community is rejuvenating after hurricane devastation five years ago. We enjoyed breakfast one morning at Shipwreck Raw Bar; a recommendation from Wayne. The weather was exceptional during our visit. While the breeze could get gusty on the beach, it felt amazing at the campsite. It was truly a wonderful few days to unwind and rejuvenate. Wayne has made a pleasant site that he graciously shares with others who like experience a slower paradise!
Only recommendation would be to make a back and two sides around the outdoor shower. It felt amazing on the hot days but limited the full showering experience with no privacy around the area.

We loved this spot! The directions were very clear for how to back in, the spot is clearly marked and level - with a cute picnic table, mats, fire pit, clothesline, and excellent outdoor shower/foot rinse station combo. We loved how peaceful, dark and quiet this location was.
One thing to be aware of, we didn't have service at all. I had to walk down the street a bit to get a phone call out, text messages would go through, but that's about it for our verizon service. Even our tmobile hotspot couldn't get through, its just a dead zone. Our host had wireless but we couldn't connec to that either. But no big deal, its vacation and healthy to unplug from life. It was an easy walk down the street to the beach, tons of food trucks in the surrounding area, and Port St. Joe was a short drive away with anything else you might want to see.

Wow! This was my first trip using HipCamp and I found a great location and host. The host has thought of everything and the location couldn't be better. The location is quiet, private, with full hook up. Just a few blocks from the beach, in a very walker friendly community. Definitely will visit again. Very responsive host, with detail instructions for self checking. Very nice experience. 👌
