Founded by Boyd and Elsie Hamilton, who left their small prairie town in Saskatchewan, Canada, in search of warmer winters, the campground has become a beloved retreat for both locals and visitors alike. After falling in love with Key West, the couple settled on the island and began raising their five children—Fern, Andy, Lynn, Henry, and Danny—while establishing their campground on land reclaimed from the ocean. The campground officially opened its doors in 1963, starting with just 17 units at a nightly rate of $1.50. Over the years, Boyd's has cultivated a loyal following, with many guests returning since the late 1960s and early 1970s. The campground has become a hub for seasonal "snowbirds," who often reunite with friends made during their stays. Boyd and Elsie’s commitment to creating a welcoming environment has fostered a sense of community that continues to thrive today.
