Creature comforts
Enjoy the comforts of home—including flush toilets, showers, and a kitchen.
Enjoy a music-inspired, private entranced in-law "apartment" in a home right on the river! See beautiful wildlife such as swans, bald eagles, herons, bobcats and river otters, while enjoying the river with three kayaks provided. Enjoy your own space with a bedroom (queen bed), kitchenette, bathroom, living room with queen sleeper sofa and a dining area. Just outside your door is a covered patio that overlooks the river, with a gas fire pit, dining table, grill, couch, lounge chairs and a hammock. Walk down the steep slope to access the river or to hike the almost 5 acres of land on the river. (make sure during summer months you have tick spray when hiking). Unique property where you must be physically fit to access the slope that leads down to the river. It is steep and can be dangerous. Life vests are provided and must be worn when kayaking. No fires allowed other than the gas fire table on the patio. Gas grill provided for outdoor barbecuing. The in-law apartment is also 13 miles from Mohegan Sun Casino with numerous shops, gambling, restaurants and concerts year-round. Foxwoods casino is about 15 miles away as well. We are about 30 miles from the ocean. Beautiful towns such as Old Saybrook, Mystic, Stonington, Essex and Niantic are just a few local towns worth discovering. This vacation rental is a lower In-Law apartment with a private entrance overlooking the Shetucket River, perfect for kayaking and bird-watching. It sleeps 4 (queen bed, queen sleeper sofa). You have a complete in-law apartment to yourself with a kitchenette (mini-fridge, coffee maker, air fryer/toaster over, microwave oven, kitchen sink, dishes, silverware), bedroom with queen bed, living room with couch /queen size sleeper sofa, indoor and outdoor dining tables, TV, nautilus exercise stair-stepper, spa-like bathroom with rainhead shower, sink and toilet, outdoor propane fire pit table, gas grill, outdoor couches, hammock, use of three kayaks & life vests. You must be physically fit to access the river via the steep slope with tree log steps. A good workout!! You must wear life vests provided when kayaking. No alcohol is allowed outside of the patio/apartment area, and no alcohol is allowed down the slope or when kayaking. Please be responsible as the river can be dangerous. A dock is at the riverfront where you can board the kayaks. From my cove you would kayak to the right to the end of the little peninsula and head left once you get around the peninsula to get on the main river. Kayaking to the right of the peninsula brings you to the dam and a waterfall, so be aware of your surroundings and the current of the river, which can be deceivingly strong. My cove is usually calm but the main river can get rough so be reasonable about how far up the river you travel and always have your phone with you. Always be off the river and up the slope before it gets dark as we have wildlife that could be dangerous. (Bobcats, bears and yes, deer can be dangerous!) Never be on the river in bad weather. You have access to the in-law apartment as well as the outside patio, gas grill, propane fire pit and kayaks. You can hike my property (almost 5 unlevel acres) to the right of my home. Beware of ticks especially if you dare to hike the property in the summertime. Hiking is better in the winter when the ticks are dormant and you can see for miles due to no foliage. The bald eagles have built a huge nest on my land & they are amazing to watch. Just look up!! I do take my dog down the slope every day so if you see me & Ripp, we'll say hello and answer any questions you have.
