Very nice spot. It was fairly secluded, besides one house across the road, and very quiet. Fire pit was awesome and appreciated the option to buy more wood because we ended up needing more than we brought. Would definitely come back.

Fernwood was a great place to get away and relax in the woods! Can hike from camp in the nearby preserve. Firewood prepared and dry. A lovely trip!

Very quiet and peaceful. Loved listening to the horses and the donkey from then farm up the road. Very clean and well kept sites. Definitely recommend this place if you want to get away from it all. Upon arrival we unexpectedly met the owners and it was a great surprise. Alan and Joan are wonderful people and great to talk to. The porta potty was very clean and having firewood at the ready was great. Thank you for a wonderful and enjoyable experience camping on your land!

What a beautiful piece of land! My wife and I were here with our dog for the labor day long weekend and we discovered an amazing getaway to disconnect from the world.
Some things we noted:
- The site was very easy to find, even though we arrived late at night.
- The campsite was thickly wooded and felt isolated from the world.
- Porta Potty was clean!
- We had some rain, but the area drained well and did not flood.
- There was just enough signal to make phone calls if necessary.
- The provided wood was perfect and the fire pit worked like a charm
We found some great hiking nearby at Goodwin Forest, and did some kayaking at Quinebaug Lake!
If you like the outdoors and prefer true wooded camping, this is definitely the place to be.
Thank you Alan! We have found our favorite spot in Connecticut to go camping!

Great Site! Secluded, there’s a picnic table, first free carton of wood would a nice touch. Owners are sweet and accommodating. Would definitely recommend!

Couldn’t have asked for a better stay. Great site with a ton of space. Supplied wood made our stay much nicer. Nice and peaceful and in a great location. And clean porta potty made it the perfect spot. Very much recommend to some campers trying to get away for a few days.

We loved our stay here. Can’t wait to come back. Very quiet and private just what we wanted. Well kept area. The neighbors that are there are very friendly. Alan called me and spoke to me on the phone prior to our stay which was so nice and personal. Town is quaint.

We were so happy to find Alan and Joan's land. It was in a great location, close to a beautiful hiking trail through Goodwin forest and a darling general store. The area was clean, spacious and well-supplied.

Camping at Alan's Fernwood site was a blast and extremely easy to get to. Alan was very nice and gave us clear directions and was very accommodating. The site is off of a dead-end street so there is no noise from cars and you get to experience a nice little spot of nature. The bathroom was very clean, plenty of firewood and water available, and the camp setup was a piece of cake. Would definitely recommend, and will be returning for another stay in the not too distance future.

My son and I only got to stay here one night, but we are definitely going to return. The campsite is very well maintained, bathroom is exceptionally clean, and it’s very quiet off the beaten path which is exactly what we needed. Natchaug forest and river were really close as well as Halls Pond for some evening and morning fishing. We ended up getting rain at night so we went over to the Mansfield drive in instead of doing a fire. Everything was just so nice and relaxing and just what we needed.

We enjoyed our stay! Very peaceful and serene location. Alan did a great job communicating and letting us know what to expect, and everything we needed was there. The porta potty was definitely the cleanest I’ve ever used!

Wonderful campsite!!! Had wood, plenty of space. Greenery was a bit overgrown but that’s not problem at all!!! Alan and his wife were incredibly informative and helpful with any questions. Beautiful area and definitely felt disconnected from life!! We will be back!!

My girlfriend and I rented a campervan and drove down to Connecticut. Alan's place was the perfect place to stay for the night, and had several options for parking the van. There is a nice firepit there at the campsite and he has wood and water for sale. We had some initial trouble finding the place, but Alan was very responsive and helped us right away. There is also a public park right up the road, within walking distance from the campsite. The porta-poty toilet was very clean! We hope to return sometime.

I took my boyfriend here for his first ever camp (he's a city boy) and we BOTH loved it! The best part was the neighbors Donkeys down the road. It was so quiet, relaxing and the beautiful fresh air blowing.
The ground is perfect for tenting⛺️.
Alan was extremely kind during our conversations and probably one of the most kind Hearted people I've spoken to on here. It was such a joy to be there. We will absolutely be booking again in the future.

I had a wonderful experience on Alan's site! Even with a little rain, the scenery was stunning and walking the trails on the nearby preserve was a wonderful way to spend the day. Alan was very communicative and clear as well. Would definitely go back or recommend to a friend!

My group and I stayed at Fernwood 2, and had an awesome time. It's secluded, it's serene, and is located near a great hiking trail. There is also a farm nearby, and the sound of a braying donkey was a welcome and humorous surprise. Our weekend was littered with rainfall, and we did notice some pooling next to the stone driveway before the fire pit, but lucky for us we pitched our tents closer to the treeline and away from that area.
Alan is a great host. He kept in touch before the visit and remained available during our stay to answer questions that popped up. He was also very kind in inviting us to extend our stay by a couple hours to enjoy a much needed fire to warm our bones before departing after a chilly night of constant rain.
We would absolutely recommend Fernwood to everyone.

Great time at Fernwood! Such a nice, peaceful spot. The camping spot is nice and level with a fire pit right by the forest of fern plants. What a sight to be sitting by the fire looking out over all of these beautiful ferns growing everywhere.
The port-a potty on site looked like it was brand new. TP and hand sanitizer were in it as well. No issues there.
Overall we had a very nice relaxing time and highly recommend it.
Can’t wait to go back again!
