Ute Lodge - At the End of the Road

This camp site is absolutely beautiful and Mona and Karl are just the kindest! My friend and I went on a camping trip during early June and were the only ones staying on the site(besides host). Everyone was so friendly and accommodating! We were able to go paddle boarding and Karl helped us set everything up. We had great conversations with both Mona and Karl and they are both great people to talk to. This was my first time using Hipcamp and I can say that it went very well. I’m already planning to bring my family out here asap!!

Absolutely wonderful time at the Yurt! It is wonderfully secluded and quiet. The fall colors were also perfect! Everything was provided for a great stay, just need sleeping bag and food. We had an extra chargeable table lamp which helped at night, but definitely doable without. The road to the yurt definitely requires 4x4; we did it with a stock height 5th gen 4Runner and off-road tires. The host was wonderful and very accommodating! She informed us of fun hiking trails immediately from the yurt, which were fun to explore.

What a fantastic location and friendly people! At popular times RVs can be quite close - but everyone seemed to be there with a purpose, so there was not a feeling of being crowded. Access to the Flat Tops Wilderness Area and White River National Forest (Colorado) meant that it was well worth ‘leaving the beaten track’ behind. Hosts, Mona and Carl, were welcoming and had plenty of good local advice.

10/10! The owners are so nice and friendly! Carl and Mona are awesome! They work super hard to keep their land clean and it shows. Their property is beautiful and it truly is really good spot to camp at. We went tent camping and from the photos it looks like the RV's and the tents were going to be really close together, but it was the opposite! Tent campers get their own little secluded spots which was super nice especially if you have neighbors! While the lake on their property is not swimmable, it is still beautiful, and there is another huge lake about an hour away from the property. While that may feel like a long time, the views totally make up for it and makes the drive go by way faster! All in all, my friends and I will totally be back because the experience was truly great!

I had a fantastic stay tent camping at this property! The hosts were incredibly welcoming and went above and beyond with their recommendations for local activities. They provided yard games that added extra fun to our stay and even checked in with us before a big rainstorm to ensure we were prepared. The bathrooms were clean, which was much appreciated, and my dog had the best time running around the spacious property. Overall, a top-notch experience with amazing hosts and excellent amenities. Highly recommended!

The area we camped in had lots of grass on the ground so it was more comfortable than what I am used to. The area was quiet with no traffic noise and fellow campers were also quiet.

Great place!

We had a great time at the yurt! It was beautiful and secluded - exactly what we were looking for. Hosts were lovely, horse friends around the fishing pond were magical, the hiking around the yurt was awesome, and the bathhouse was glorious after a few days of dirty camping. There is a fire pit with plenty of wood and charcoal grill at the yurt, which is great. A few things to be aware of - 1) the trek up to the yurt is harrowing and shouldn't be underestimated. We had a 4x4 but it was still very rough up and back. Very glad we didn't have to deal with mud b/c that would have been way worse. Our SUV got pretty scratched up by the end of the trip (4 trips up) because of the branches etc.; 2) the flies are no joke. Make sure to bring bug spray and I'd suggest a swatter for the yurt; and 3) the dirt up around the yurt got really hot pretty early in the day which was a problem for our pup, so we'd highly recommend bringing doggy booties.

Camping with dogs!

We had an incredible time at Ute Lodge. We spent a night tent camping, and Mona was able to accommodate a last minute switch to a cabin for our second night. The property is a perfect escape with multiple walking trails, wildlife, pigs and horses, and outdoor games and activities. We brought two energy filled dogs who enjoyed their time off leash and had a blast. The cabins are clean, the water is delicious, and Mona and her family are extremely welcoming and kind. Looking forward to returning some day soon.

A new family favorite!

A hidden gem, complete with the perfect lake to fish in, a short walking distance away. Amenities provided, showers/bathrooms, playground for kids, access to power, etc. A nearby creek offers the perfect soundtrack to sleep until the morning rooster crows, while the pigs wait patiently as campers share their scraps. A favorite moment was when the wild horses went from grazing to saying hello… it was the perfect place to unplug with my family and spend time getting recentered. Highly recommend for families.

Wild Rose

We loved out stay. There's great trails nearby. Fun activities available if you want (games, fire pits, horse rides). The cabins are in great shape. Bathhouse is very clean. Our dog was the most fun being off leash. Would definitely consider making it a yearly trip.

Home on Wheels

This is my favorite place to camp. The name “Home on Wheels” is perfect. We are always welcomed as if we were longtime friends. The new pickleball court was awesome and a great source of entertainment for us. We travel with family and friends and Mona does a great job getting in spaces all together. The setting for Home on Wheels is beautiful. Lots of trees, nearby fishing, hiking and 4-wheeling. Best place to camp EVER!

Breathtaking Remote Wilderness Yurt

Absolutely amazing experience! Highly recommend this stay if you’re looking for a remote wilderness getaway. We planned our stay at Old Baldy Yurt with the hopes of catching late season Fall foliage of the Aspens before they dropped their leaves…we lucked out! Perched atop a mountain with breathtaking views, the yurt is surrounded by towering Aspens, beautiful National forests and open meadows teeming with wildlife (deer, elk, moose), this place is simply incredible. There is a trail located steps from the Yurt making it easy for us to hike for miles and miles without the sight of people or civilization. The host, Karl, went above and beyond to accommodate us during our stay. After striking out on finding an outfitter for a last minute horse back trail ride, Karl volunteered his valuable time and took us on a 2+ hour ride through the Flat Tops of the White River National Forest. During the ride Karl shared with us some of his vast knowledge and insight of the region. A memory that we’ll cherish forever-thanks again Karl!! The Yurt has everything one (or group) could need for a remote/off grid getaway (although we did manage to have cell service at the Yurt). I do recommend a high clearance, 4wd auto to make it up the trail to yurt. The Yurt is an ideal stay for anyone looking for a back country getaway and to be immersed into the wild of Colorado. Close proximity to world class fishing, hunting, trail rides, hiking and much more. We will definitely be back!

We had such a great time staying at the Old Baldy yurt, hiking down for fishing and paddle boarding and enjoying the amazing views. Extra kudos to the staff, they were so welcoming and helpful! We couldn’t have asked for a better way to close out the summer.

Weekend stay at the yurt in August

My partner and I had the best time staying at Mona and Karl’s yurt! The check-in process is super easy and the hosts have a wealth of information to share. The road is definitely a doozy but with some clearance and skill you can make it up there no problem- it definitely got easier once you get your first traverse under your belt. The yurt is great with good amenities. Bring any creature comforts you may want for a cozy and well planned time- there’s plenty of room for lugging in gear, blankets, games, etc. We can’t wait to come back!

Beautiful location with lots of trees, a creek, a lake, animals-domestic, and lots of activities for kids - basketball, Pickleball, badminton, swings, tether all and more. The host was super sweet with lots of information of places to go that were away from the camp as well. I would highly recommend it.

HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

The Yurt is so comfortable and cozy and I cannot recommend it enough. Definitely make sure you have a 4x4 to get up there, but the drive is totally worth it. It’s off the beaten path and secluded which makes the perfect quiet getaway with great views of the stars at night and beautiful rolling hills during the day. I would be sure to pack blankets ‘just in case’. Mona is a great host as well, a great energy and very approachable. I had zero complaints about my visit and plan to go back in the future. Cannot recommend enough!
